3 ай бұрынOh god. The more you look at it, the more you see. Megamind 2 is a lot of things. It's actually two projects going on at the same time - a sequel movie AND a TV Series. So one is Megamind Vs The Doom Syndicate, and another is Megamind Rules! And today, Peacock Kids showcased two new videos for each, a music video with Adam Lambert, and the first 6 minutes of the film as a shocase. And both look just as awful as before. And each other. It's a real mess. And on the marketing front, things only get more complicated as they have intentionally blurred the two projects together into this hodge podge. Truly an evil move, from the most evil of minds. New Footage Of Megamind 2 Arrived... and it's worse.

megamind never needed a sequel. It's the perfect example of a good one-off movie. Unless you have genius writers, a sequel of a movie like megamind will only drag the original down.

The biggest thing I don't understand is like, the original megamind was a deceptively mature movie, and started picking up an audience a handful of years back because of that exact maturity, an audience of mostly young adults, and for the followup they decided to just go full kids' show/movie, in the age of mature animated projects like puss in boots and the spiderverse trilogy?

I think this is more of a Disney Straight to DVD movie, as in the likes of Aladdin or Pocahontas two, with low budget sequels that seem to misunderstand characters from the original movie. This movie is just unfortunately in the public mind due to streaming making it much more marketable than the old straight to dvd movies. If this was a movie on dvd it probably wouldn’t have as much advertising, nor as much hate due it seeming ignorable.

@@snakemaster254yeah but those two movies (while being drawn badly because of the underpaid/unpaid interns. there were objectively some funny parts and/or good plots. Like Aladdin king of thieves!! I wish THAT was made into a legitimate sequel for Aladdin! This… is a whole other mess.

My main point was about the practice in the industry of just shoving out lower budget versions of their movies that while still somewhat good, fail to be as good as the original. Granted King of Thieves is quite fittingly what one would call a diamond in the rough.

Like for the TV series I can understand because even kung fu panda and penguins took a hit visually to save money in exchange for making more episodes, but for the sequel movie to look bad too is just... Gonna be honest, I never thought about Megamind's world too deeply, but I always just assumed that Metro Man and Megamind were an isolated incident, that there were just these two characters that fit nicely into their roles as a super hero and a super villain. But, now that I think about it, does the existence of other supervillains imply other heroes as well? Like, the police aren''t dealing with the terror trout trio, right? And they're absolutely not going to fight against a giant lava monster, so there have to be heroes who make time to deal with them, right? But then, why did none of them come to Metro City when Megamind became a dictator? Was every hero like, "Ah, let's see what he does," and just left him alone? Even when Tighten (or Titan) was becoming a despot? They just didn't even bother to check in?

See, you're actually putting some modicum of thought into this, which is more than what the writers did. But you're right, that's exactly why the "bad guy" of the animated short we got after the movie was a computer program Megamind himself had created. In universe I don't think there were any other Supers.

In universe it was in-fact an isolated incident, the show and "sequel" retconned the fact megamind had no prior friends and the fact they were an isolated incident. It's very likely that the writers didn't watch the actual movie or give any thought about it.

I alway had a head cannon that other heroes DO exist, but knew the whole "Megamind and Metroman where just fighting for fun" and "Metroman faked his death" thing. And since Megamind basically just kinda of goofed around, not really harming people, they just went "yeah, we will fix this later". Then Megamind started doing good things in a few days and just decided he was now the desiganted hero of the city and left the Thighten problem for him to solve.

I mean, just imagine Megamind confronting them for all of this, and they're just like, "Mate, we didn't think any of that was serious" like completely demeaning everything they've been through. As bad as it is, it's not surprising. Series budgets are always lower than the original films, which means poorer animation quality. This movie is supposed to be an introduction to the series.

Plot twist: the actual villain of Megamind 2 is putting deceptively terrible trailers to try and drive the audience away from watching the movie, forcing it into obscurity like the original Megamind, while hiding a masterpiece of a sequel with top notch writing, and a much higher budget animation department, for all to enjoy years after release, allowing the crew to hide in the shadows and spend another decade making a perfect trilogy while people slowly discover that the advertisements were meant to hide a masterpiece. After all, it's about PRESENTATION, and they're keeping the PRESENTATION away until the true film releases

I'm gonna be honest unlike megamind, rango doesn't actually need a sequel, everything and all of their character arcs are already done there's nothing left to develop. With megamind there was still megamind's hero arc which the button of doom tried to do a little of but it wasn't very long.

Dazz, it’s really not that complicated, the movie is the extended first episode of the show. Still looks like shit, but it’s not two projects being mismanaged, but one larger project

Honestly this isn’t anything new. DreamWorks has pumped out tons of straight to streaming spin-off shows like this that range from OK to bad. Dragons: Rescue Riders, Dragons: The Nine Realms, Kung Fu Panda: Paws of Destiny, Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, that one weird Puss In Boots Netflix cartoon that I never heard of even though it somehow ran for six seasons, etc. Not to say that this show can’t be criticised, it certainly can, but I think a lot of people are maybe misaligning their expectations. Like I’ve seen a ton of people complaining that the animation looks like a spin-off TV show instead of a movie… not realising that it’s literally a spin-off TV show.

@@conscripthornet4430Race To The Edge was genuinely great and well written. It added a lot to the side characters that the films couldn't fully do due to the amount of time. It actually adds to the movies. Tangled The Series is probably the only other show I can think of that's good and that adds to the animated film.

The Wikipedia article for this does make it seem like it’s meant to be a pilot for a Megamind show rather than a full on sequel to the original. It’s essentially the Star Wars: The Clone Wars film from 2008 or Aladdin: The Return of Jafar!

Studios really have to start realizing that the audience isn’t always going to go watch a movie just because the movie is about a famous character. We don’t want to see cash grabs we want to see actual good movies FUCK the only reason the famous characters they’re making movies about got so famous & beloved in the first place is because they came from good projects! You can’t just pull out famous characters and expect people to automatically watch the movie cuz if we hear that the movie is bad from the majority of the people then were not gonna watch the movie EVEN IF IT INCLUDES OUR FAVORITE CHARACTERS! With Megamind and the Doom Syndicate supposedly taking place only a few days after the events of the movie it is directly competing with Megamind and the Button of Doom with that point in the timeline and therefore only one can be Canon and I choose the one with Will Ferrel.

Yeah it makes sense for the TV series to have poor animation, since the budgets for these shows are always a lot lower than the movies. And the "movie" is an introduction to the TV show, so that also makes sense. But I still wish this never happened, or we got an actual sequel.

6:47 this sawfish cutting scene is so vile. Play it at .25 the nose of the fish just rotates freely and doesn't even line up with the hole at times. Not to mention that it cuts through like butter with no resistance and clips through the wall on its way out. And the movement itself is so unrealistic they clearly just made the hands follow a circular curve and made the IK do the work. Zero polish whatsoever.

There already was a sequel to Megamind, and it was a short movie. It was about him auctioning off his villain inventions, then he takes them all back because it was a mistake to sell them in the first place. He also fought an AI version of himself. This new "Megamind" seems to forget that even happened. It also forgets that Megamind didn't have friends other than minion.

I hate it. 100% we should all avoid watching it and just pretend it doesn't exist. When it inevitably bombs and the studio goes broke we can say "Oh, wait, you wanted us to watch _this crap?
