I really wish Vinland Saga won. My Wife HATES anime, but this anime got her back into it after 6 years of not watching anything I tried to show her. The way the characters connect with people is unlike anything I've watched before. I really hope a new season comes out so they have a chance to win this award

2:20 bruh gojo had ONE good VA moment in this arc and that was the "Is that So?" scream to toji. Literally every other line he's said in the series is delivered just as well as any other VA there. In fact Eren's VA is goated. The amount of emotion he's able to put into his words CONSISTENTLY is just insane.

I've saved Mob S3 back and I can't fucking wait to watch it. Literally blew through the first two seasons. There's so many cool shows to watch so I've got... Spy x Family, Demon Slayer, Gundam Zeta, 86 season 2, Psycho-Pass S2, Vinland Saga, Frieren S1, Dead Mount Death Play S1, and A Place Further than the Universe that I'm currently watching all together with another 20 plus Animes and countless other shows I'm still finishing. Most days I'm have serious trouble figuring out what to watch! xDDD Thanks for all the quality show recommendations. You've really helped me sort out the shows I'd most want to see :D

Looking back at Best Director. I also picked Shota Goshozono but in all honesty he did what everyone expected from him. We had our hopes up so high for JJK every single time and he had to deliver (Which is impressive and a good thing). But honestly I should've gone with Keiichiro Saito. He's pretty new in the main director role and so far has gone above and beyond in his works. Not only did he deliver on Bocchi but he far surpassed everyone's expectations on the show making it from a good anime to a memorable great anime. He is also the main director for Frieren where we can see his hard work and soul also shine through every single scene. Knowing how new he is to the this role in specific (He has had a lot of previous experience) I can't help but admire him. He brought us Bocchi and Frieren and both have delivered more than any of us could've asked for in their respective genre.

Dunno if anyone else had this same issue, but to me, it felt like this particular awards season, more than any previous ones, felt like I was watching a pissing contest between fandoms more than an actual award show.

Something to consider is that Gojo is the protagonist for the Star Child arc; hardly a "side character". Mob Psycho is still peak.

Mob Psycho season 3 still has that awesome fight between Dimple and Psycho Helmet.

75% judges, 25% public They've been pretty transparent this year, you just had to scroll the nominations page and read for 2 minutes

I really think some categories should be purely jury votes. Like sure, anime of year and best characters of various categories and best anime of specific genre should have audience voting. But stuff like best cinematography, best art design, stuff like that, the average anime viewer does not really care to understand what that even means, and so they just vote for their favorite show

the bit that hurts the most (imo) is just seeing the rest of the hardworking staff who poured their soul in their work just for them to sit there and watch jjk take home award after award after award.

Last year I was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma and have been receiving chemo treatment for it. I'm almost done with all my treatments and I hope to some day soon visit Japan if I can afford it. I wanted to thank you because you were the reason that I got into anime and eventually wanting to visit Japan. There where a ton of good openings this year but I honestly think "Where Our Blue Is" deserved it's award. The song is a banger and the cinematography is used to characterize the cast in a way that the anime doesn't have time for. I haven't seen this type of story telling device used anywhere else.

Honestly agree with Garnt, Bocchi the Rock, within one episode alone made it to my best comedy list. The jokes just hit so well for those with social awkward or aversive behavior and just deserves more love.

Jjk definitely deserves some of these awards but not so many it felt like we are watching JJK awards not anime awards. Yeah Horimiy missing pieces didn't deserve best romance because this season there's wasn't much romance developments like The dangers in my heart or insomniacs after school.

for the public vote there could be a checkbox for each nominee to confirm if the voter has even watched the show. add in a little bit of magic called statistics there'd be a much higher probability for non-popular but genuinely best-in-category nominees to win the public vote instead of the popular shows

I agree with your "criticism" though on the super popular works being heavily favored (a lot of times unfairly). Jujutsu, Demon Slayer, One Piece, Attack on Titan (though for Attack on Titan I do think it beating Vinland for best drama is a lot less contentious) are all amazing shows that I enjoy/love quite a lot. I do think they also deserve to win certain categories where they qualify, but it is disheartening when they sweep every category they are in only because they are popular. Is Gojo an entertaining and great character? 100% does he deserve to win best supporting character over other more fleshed out but less popular characters? I don't think so.

It's sadly not surprising in the least. It is a popularity contest more than anything, so the more popular a thing is the more votes it gets. JJK deserved to win SOME, but they also won SO many that they did not deserve.

If Frieren do not win Fantasy anime for 2024 I will burn down Crunchroll. For legal reason thats a joke.

while i have never watched anime awards ever, and am not an avid anime watcher, whenever i watch jjk it feels like Gojo's VA is always having the time of his life recording those lines and really enjoys what he is doing

I think the awards need some change on the voting.... some awards (like director, cinematography, etc) need to be voted by people in the industry leave to popular votes categories like "best couple" "character to protect" etc and anime of the year make it mixed voting... it would make some categories more FAIR to animes like Vinland Saga,a fantasies against Kimetsu, etc

I cant understand how people overlook Chainsaw Man's direction. I ve never seen an anime with so high quality and cinematic direction. I know i know. this doesnt mean that it was good in itself, but in the case of Chainsaw Man anime, the whole package was insanely good. Voice acting. Animation. Direction. Pacing. Action. Sound desing. Music. And i m not even that much of a fan of the show. The quality is just there.

I think that certain titles get voting based on the entire show rather than just the portion that is actually under consideration for the yearly award. Demon Slayer and JJK I think are examples of this...

I think the idea of more categories is good but ultimately the same problem would probably occur with time. I think splitting the popular vote and the judging panel vote (industry "experts") should be separated. Each category would have two winners. If a show managed to get both then you would know that it truly deserved its praise.

itd be really cool to see the myanimelist data shown to see how many people finished a show vs how many voted for it. it would certianly show the the most popular show gets the most votes often times but could also show popular shows that didn't get such a high percentage of viewers voting for it or shows where fewer people watched it but it got a higher percentage of them to vote for it, highlighting shows folks are sleeping on.

For as great as Sawano is, we need to give credit to Kohta Yamamoto for AOT Final Season's soundtrack. All the new tracks (with there being almost 30 of them) were his work and the tone/personality of this season were set by him, with Sawano only helping out with some remixes. I know it's not intentional on Garnt's part, but putting all the credit on Sawano's shoulders for what is Yamamoto's season is disrespectful to all his hard work. A worthy successor that put his stamp on one of the biggest anime of all time.

I think it will better if they added more categories like Mystery/Thriller or Sports so that many other Animes would get recognized. These award shows should celebrate anime but many shows do get left out.

Every year the youtube channel @TopAnimeWeekly had an awards video that was so damn well made and it felt much more professional in both the nominees and the winners. Sadly seems like there wont be one this year. But i do urge people to check out how it was in previous years.

genuinely i think one way that they can lessen of popular animes winning is by making a system where there's a max on how many times an anime can win before being removed from the awarding's entirely so more less popular or new animes can show up to their doorstep. (although i think directors should be kept in for the sake of the director category. And also like some-type of board showcasing the max winners.) then again i only thought of this after this video so idk how well this idea could work and this could go so wrong-

I think series should only be allowed to put their hat into a couple of the awards. Like "you can only have your anime in 3 of the nominations" so it isn't a full sweep and others can stand out

I'm not surprised anymore by the mediocrity of people easily distracted by high-budgeted animes with simple plot developments in their story, over well crafted and philosophically driven plots. We are talking about people who can't even ask the relevance of elements in any kind of media they watch. They let themselves be hypnotized by flashy effects while can't wonder why a show becomes "boring" or "slow-paced". They feel the need to meme about a man's decision to regulate his life outside of violence. Instead of seeing the idea of "having no enemies" as a self motivation, they needed to laugh at it, like it's a general rule for everybody. They see pacifism as being a ridiculous/stupid decision, when it's clear that the character is capable of violence but it is his decision to redeem himself after inflicting so much violence (the first season painted perfectly a revenge story that should teach the failure of people's decisions). And he chose a life of peace, after having nothing, being robbed of his young years, and finally seeing why he should live again - just like his father did, mirroring the beginning of the story and running away from the battlefield. The story was never hard to follow... Seriously... what a joke to be alive during these times...

I’ll say this much, when I looked at the voting the artwork that was used for JJK S2 was confusing- some like anime of the year used the Shibuya Incident poster, while others used Hidden Inventory. That might have had an effect on voting as if people thought the whole season was being included then that would’ve got it more votes, outside the popularity of the anime. Outside of that, sad Vinland and Mob didn’t win any awards, annoyed Horimia won best romance (it was the weakest in that category by a long shot imho) and was pleasantly surprised Buddy Daddies won best original anime as I think it was a sleeper hit last year

i wasn't surprised, since I've heard that a few of the judges only watch 1 or only a few anime per year, but i was disappointed. Though not really taking the overall awards seriously, it just sucks that an event about celebration of anime is just a shounen/popularity awards
