The Delorean was famous because it's creator was busted for coke,it had gull wing doors and it was in Back to the Future. The 86 was and is a legendary vehicle that changed automotive history as well as being currently in use at the highest level of racing. Delorean never won a race but it's still famous and that somehow is cool too.

I eneded up 2 years later selling it for parts. I think I paid 800 cash for it back in 98 when it was least popular. Honestly I'm glad I had my chance with it when it was cheap. I’m lucky enough to say that this is the car where I learned how to drive back in el salvador (where I’m from), my dad had one (still owns it) and I learned how to drive a car and a manual on that thing, nowadays he has a sick ass RHD Toyota chaser alongside his ae86 (both white) and I moved to the states and now I drive a Dodge charger scatpack widebody :^) My dad is a badass he knows how to drift and whips that shit around like a boss Fun fact: both his cars are signed by keichi tsuchiya from a drift show they made back home and he drove both of them Can’t wait to visit him again!❤️

I think it just hit a really hard time where they're now more rusted due to time, and because of the internet there is far greater exposure so everyone wants one. Initial D has been around for half as long as the 86 has existed for, yet it's only in the last decade that the prices have soared. The same decade where KZfaqr content about the cars becomes highly sought after, facebook groups are created about the car and the owners realise they can constantly up the price as time goes on and the number of them out there dwindles whilst demand grows.

@@leejk3926 my 86 was brought to Hawaii from Japan in 1984 sold on Christmas Day from Toyota Honolulu dealership! It’s got all the rust but she’s still sturdy and strong! I’m battling with time trying to find parts and doing minor bodywork till I can afford an overhaul! The car will cost about 40grand to really do it right !

Bought a 86, for 3.5k, dropped about 4k into it, about 5 months later I sold it for 11k. Was not my plan when purchased... but it just settled in that it is a 40 year old car that performed like a 40 year old car. That and the community is extremely volatile. Your rather loved or hated. And instantly branded as a weeb.

If I get branded a "weeb" then so be it..not like they know why I really got it for..which was it's history and in how fun that car can be for just being a Corolla.. But I'm only turning 18 so I'm def not getting one anytime soon 💀but the plan is to eventually get one..but also building enough money to fix it up to where it was almost brand new.. But yea lol.. Ae86 owner here! To me is the car worth the “tax” Yes, it’s the fact I’m driving the hero car from the anime I group up in high school watching. The car ain’t fast, the car doesn’t have features but that’s the best part, you are the most important part of the car. It’s a drivers car. Parts are expensive but it’s okay, it has road noise it’s easy to steal but at the end of the day if you have the money and your like me you’ll do everything in your power to buy one.

Funny that these get props now. When they were new, few cared about them. I used to want one after a buddy of mine got a red 1986 GT-S liftback for his 16th birthday in 1988. It was pretty basic with steel wheels w/ trim rings. I fell in love with that car and have wanted one ever since. People looked at me like I was being ridiculous. The most common response," Really?! It's just a Corolla!" Prices today are ridiculous. I remember test driving a two-tone blue 1986 GT-S liftback back in 1993 for $3200. It had 120k miles and it was loaded with power sunroof and windows, plus alloy wheels and EQ cassette stereo. That car sold before I got approved for a loan for it. The GT-S models weren't that common and the loaded models were even harder to find. They stayed around $2,500-3500 throughout the 1990's. Initial D forever changed everything. Now everyone wants them. That one I test drove used in 1993, would easily fetch $20k today if it was in the same condition with 120k miles.

Around here we call em twinkies for their twin cam engines, we even had a car club back in the late 80’s early 90’s simply call the Toyota club where you would find some of the twinkies ever. Way before the hype we knew what they were and these will always hold a special place in my heart, I still get excited whenever I see one but they are so rare nowadays.

These cars are the worst car I've ever loved and I would never give mine up for anything. Everything about them screams not worth it but everytime I open the garage door and see it even in its non-running state, I fall in love all over again. The funniest part is that in my experience most people don't recognize it anymore except for older guys who may not even know what it is but get excited too see a remnant of the 80's. Mine is still all original so it's definitely a time capsule.

I had a 86 sr5 lift back. SOHC. 98 hp of greatness. Gas was 95¢ a gallon CD's came out. My first player was an Optium from Radio Shack.

I have a ae86 and just bought the big brake kit for it.now I have problems finding rims cause that off set.and have to be 15" or bigger to fit.all 4 wheels.

I know I typically don't like Toyotas except for the Corolla AE86 Trueno Hatchback, Toyota MK4 Supra, Toyota/Lexus Altezza (IS300), the list goes on.

nice video but the Levin was known as the AE86 also, and the AE85 can also be a Trueno. I personally like the Levin more than the Trueno.

Really like the icon that is the EA86, but I would probably try to get my hands on a E45 M3 instead (if they are around the same money, importing cars from lets say Japan to Sweden is probably hella expensive). Yes i like initial D, but I could make a e46 M3 in to a Need for Speed Most Wanted M3 GTR replica. It is sort of weird who i feel more and more obligated to make one of those, maybe a better idea to start with a e46 330ci instead of a M3. Hear me out, putting a cutting wheel in a M3 feels wrong, so a none M coupe wouldn’t that be a perfect starting point? Maybe drop in a Volvo B5244T5 engine and tune it to around 400 to 450Hk, I can’t imagine how many people I could piss off by doing that, maybe a frankenstined B6254F with B6304F head, B5234T pistons and a big ass turbo would be a better idea..... (still says Volvo on it)...
