Both Hockey and Soccer are amazing sports and require an incredible amount of skill so I respect them both, however, being injured in hockey can have a different outcome than in soccer. In soccer its about a potential opportunity to give your team an advantage and even if the player is hurt, another can sub into his position. For hockey, all players are frequently on and off the ice and there is no extra on the bench to take a position of an injured player so if someone goes down in hockey, it puts their team at a disadvantage for the rest of the game. I love both sports and its all about winning. I see soccer players faking an injury almost the same way as hockey players brushing one off, doing whatever it takes to win.

Paul Kariya stated in an interview years after the fact that he doesnt remember anything, the rest of the game, scoring that goal after he came back or anything that happened for the next 3 days following that hit. A phrase that gets thrown around in the hockey vs soccer debate quite often: soccer players pretend to be hurt, hockey players pretend to be not hurt. There ARE dives in hockey, but most players are so against it that if you dive a lot you’d be ridiculed by your peers and media. Very few keep diving after being called out couple of times.

A Shorthanded Goal in Hockey is when a team that is penalized (has 1+ players in the penalty box) scores a goal against the 5 on 4 (etc) numbers. This has to be my favorite video so far lol. When the Soccer theme music started, I knew what was coming rofl.

to be fair there are some moments in the NHL when players will also embellish or "dive" to get a call. And almost every single player is guilty of it from time-to-time. However, the difference is that in the culture of hockey this sort of behavior is extremely frowned upon, by both fans and other players. If you get labeled as a habitual diver in Hockey you are universally hated, even by your own team and fans. As a fan of both sports, I will say that the biggest issue I have with the culture of football, is just how often and accepted embellishing is?? I mean it's one thing, if you are fouled and you embellish a bit b/c you want the official to see it. But what i've noticed is that players actually LOOK for the chance to hit-the-deck, especially in the box, so that they can get a penalty....many times even passing up on an actual chance to get a shot off, just so they can get a better scoring chance with the penalty. That's my biggest problem when watching. But, I'm biased and fully admit it. I grew up playing hockey, so it's obviously my first love. I have only recently really gotten into watching european football, so I accept that my view of the sport is not one of deep knowledge or experience.

You handled that well Adam! I am a life long hockey player and the physicality is my calling card, but us hockey lovers have fragile egos and we have to put down every sport that involves diving such as football (soccer) and basketball so that we can feel better about our sport being on the fringes of global interest. I wish someone would do a compilation of all the best of both sports, that would be sick! As for more reaction videos theres an NHL top hits of the decade (2010-2019) and Im still hoping Claude Giroux gets some love here.

JTG4 BTW I play hockey and soccer and a bit of football. And I mean soccer is still the most popular sport and all many people have to say about it is that it’s gay because their vocabulary is quite slim. The only reason ppl dive in soccer is to gain a competitive advantage, and let me tell you that shit ain’t in all leagues, especially my high school league of soccer, but if Embellishment wasn’t a penalty and gave teams advantages in hockey, many players would do it. Now don't get your brain twisted I’m not saying that players are diving in hockey currently, but if back in the day where embellishment became a penalty never happened, teams would definitely want to use it as an advantage to win. Hockey has built up the respect and manliness of not faking, and I’m sure if soccer had more refs and a rule against embellishment, the pros would have to learn to not be such pussies

For the short-handed goal- When your team gets a penalty for some reason, your team loses a player. It's normally 5 on 5 players but then it would be 5 on 4 players, with your team having 4 players if you got the penalty. When it's a 5 on 4, the team with 4 players is short-handed, and the other team with 5 players gets what's called a power play. When your team, the one that got the penalty with four players, scores, it is called a short-handed goal because your team scored whilst being short-handed.

Since everyone is already telling him what a shorthanded goal is instead i will explain some of the greatest hockey legends ever: Mario Lemieux (pronounced Lem-you): Was an absolute monster on the ice and quite possibly could've beaten Wayne Gretzky's scoring records if he did not get cancer Bobby Orr: Revolutionized the defensive position, leading the league in scoring multiple times. he also scored the famous "Flying goal" where he fell just as he scored the OT winner for the Stanley Cup Teemu Selanne: Nicknamed the "Finnish Flash" He was one of the fastest to ever play the game. He also holds the record for most goals and points for a rookie Gordie Howe (pronounced how): Basically was the greatest player of early hockey, lead the Red Wings to multiple Stanley Cups Hearing you not know some of these people would be like someone not knowing who Pele is for you, so I'm just writing this to let you know.

I'm a hockey player. Like ever since I was 3. Idc if I get hated on for this stuff but like I'm supposed to make pros. Hockey players get severely injured like u don't even imagine but we just try to brush it off and keep playing. I've had over 7 concussions playing and I'm only in my teens. I never stopped playing I just keep going. When I watch a soccer game and I watch that stuff it pisses me off bc I know they are 99% of the time faking it and to think I handle more than that on the daily and they are looking for a chance to fake it. It's really just sad. It's a good sport and it would be great if that didn't happen. The difference between hockey and soccer players is they act like they are hurt and we act like we're not. But on a side note I loved the vid and dropped a like.

4:25 in hockey when a penalty is committed that player most leave the ice surface (in the penalty box) for a certain amount of time depending on the type and severity of the penalty, when this happens his team most play minus him, a man down or “Short-handed” it is extremely difficult to score a goal in this time and most of the effort is put into defending until the penalty time is over and your team is back even ( when man up or on the “power play” most your effort is to creating scoring opportunities using the fact that one of your men at all times will be uncovered) A short-handed goal is very rare because of this.
