you can change the headgasket without removing the engine... you will just have to work around the frame. when you pull the head and cylinders out, you will just have to make sure you have enough clearance between the "Stud Bolts(long bolts that hold the heads/cylinder down)" and the backbone of the frame.

how did you put the timing because i am thinking the timing so did you put the timing so that the you turn the crank to the tdc 1.4 and then put chain on the sprocket and then you put the sprocket on camshaft and then you turn the camshaft on right position and then you look how much the sprocket is off the bolt holes and then you take the sprocket back and change the sprockets teeths until you think its right and then you put sprocket back and if camshaft is turn off the timing marks place then you turn the cam right position and then you look how much the sprocket is off the bolt holes and if it is then you do again what i was sayed on this comment or how you did it????? sorry, bad english!

Do you turn the camshaft to avoid TDC when installing the cover? Or loosening the tappers is enough to no put pressure on the cover?

Your videos have been immensely helpful - thanks. The second tappet you poke doesn't seem to move? I had a full valve job done and now there doesn't seem to be enough clearance to get the cover back on - even with the tappets out and the arms rubber banded up.. I'm baffled. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Or thanks for the vids anywho.

my only thought would be that you need to turn your engine to TDC and then install the cover

+SocoMoto707 I know this is old but wanted to leave a reply that I think the machine shop probably recut the valve so the end is now sticking out more.

i really dont know what other years are compatible... i want to say 1974-1978 because the top end rebuild kit i used works for all those years.

I used rubber bands to hold the tappets back, but I guess some were still improperly contact the valves and I think I bent some valves when I tightened the cam cover down. Any tips on how to prevent this next time I tighten it down?

i am thinking that your tappets were screwed down too much. maybe unscrew them before putting the cover back on

Did you have any trouble with the allen head bolts getting in the way of putting on the tappet covers?

you should be fine to just change the gasket without adjusting the tappets

You used gasket sealer on your oil pucks?
@SocoMoto707
@SocoMoto707 10 жыл бұрын
yeah, it just keeps them in place and keeps it sealed so oil doesnt leak through
