I used the new and improved Permacolor for my bathroom floor and have been really happy with it so far. I used Mapei Ultracolor Plus FA on the walls because my tile installer was concerned about sealing. He knew for sure that the Mapei didn’t require sealing (wall tiles were glazed and don’t need to be sealed), but the floor did need sealing. I can definitely say that the Permacolor is a higher quality grout.

Love your testing videos, no one does this and just trusts instead. Been watching your videos for years, they are all so informative and good. Can I just say - you are lookin RIPPED here my man.

I absolutely love there new permacolor select grout. Very smooth. The old was like pushing sand and couldn’t hang on the wall or float.

I was wondering about that fast grout. Did a couple repair jobs where that stuff had turned to powder. Thanks, going back to the older, tried and true grout formulas. Too many of these new products are not standing up to the test of time like the old stuff does. Been doing tile for 28 years and the quality of the tile even has gone down hill drastically in the last ten years.

There have been a bunch of new grouts in recent years advertising that "no sealer is necessary." This might be technically correct, but it's not best practice in wet areas. Similar to a paint manufactures advertising paint + primer all-in-one to make the purchaser think a step can be skipped. A good painter typically applies a separate primer coat before two coats of paint. A good tile installer will use a quality sealant for the longevity of cementitious grout in wet areas.

Very interesting results. I'd been under the impression sealing was kind of pointless with the modern grout but adding durability especially in a shower base is a big bonus especially with how simple it is to apply. I might need to do a similar test with tec or ardex grouts which I use often to see if it benefits them.

Laticrete is all I use for pool tile installations. 254 Platinum or 257Titanium with permacolor grout. You should try this grout float though. It’s a game changer. Great for epoxy and cement grouts. It’s a red one. Troxell USA - 4" x 9" Urethane Grout Float

Can you do a cementitious vs epoxy grout comparison?

Have you considered using a mohs scratch test to determine the hardness? That's what is used to test the hardness of concrete 🤙🏻

How do you like the Bostik Neverseal Urethane grout? I think it is really strong, cures well but is a nightmare to clean. You can only apply a small amount of it at a time otherwise the incredibly short working time makes it near impossible to clean off.

Do you curl to failure before each video or are they just like that?

The tile installed in our whole house is soft when wet. The builderbis suggesting an epoxy hardener, but I can't seem to find this product to find out if it's the correct application or remedy.

You should give it a week or so and do it again. Just to verify your not taking off excess grout.

Wow did laticrete buy bulletproof?

What I dont understand is how is grout supposed to withstand years of clensing when it comes out that easy? Some people dont even seal their grout, so these tests tell me their grout will wear away in a year, if not less. Are we not supposed to clean our shower walls now?

I live just north of you. Where can I find Laticrete thinnest and grout? Its not available at HD or Lowes. Maybe I drive down to sac and purchase some off you?

How do you know that grout you removed actually came from the grout lines and not from the surface of the tiles that weren't perfectly clean? Also, I'd guess the first few times you clean a shower, the surface of the grout lines will be microscopically rough until it gets smoothed out by a few cleanings, and the rough spots will be much more loose and easy to erode off. I propose you should scrub the entire surface of the 4 tiles a few times to clean their surfaces and remove any weak, loose molecules from the grout lines, and then redo the testing with the grout brush to see what actually comes from the smoothed lines. Also, be 100% sure the brush is cleaned between tests.

What's soft grout mean?

I've been using prism grout now for about six or seven years and never ever had an issue with it.... if it ain't broke, don't fix it
