This Tape Saturation plugin from Softube is exactly what I was looking for. I tried many different saturators, but this one has that gentle, subtle touch that I needed.

Softube really has nailed the saturation plugins better than others. I often use their saturation knob on vocals, and it's amazing.

Thanks for taking the time to give us a great product review. I'd been wanting to pick up a saturation plugin but didn't think I would find one that had enough to offer at an affordable price. Now I have one. That said, I was most excited to hear Suzy's beautiful voice gracing the latest iteration of your song in progress. I can't wait to hear the finished work!

I've had this plug-in for about a year, I find it great for warming up guitars - it's a brilliant plug and cost me a lot more than it's going for in the offer! Thanks for all the info Mike, I even learnt something more about it today!

Well OK!!! Very helpful & informative!!! Thanks for a great video. I think your video on this plug is the most informative, showing the flanging effect with the mix is way cool, it makes for a very nice effect that I like better than most flanger effects - Much Appreciate this video!

Mike it sounds great. I love you channel, I used to be a guitar tech in the 80's and 90's . After that I went to school and get my degree in music production and engineering so now I'm doing a lot of writing engineering but like I said if channel is very very good Mike love it take care

It is the only 3rd party plug in that can be use as "mix fx" on studio one. It is really dope and I wish more devs will dig into cause it is one of S1 strength

Thanks for all the great knowledge. Question: do you know of a stereo delay plugin with a hold button? Running Studio One 5 Artist. I've downloaded the old Ibanez dm1100 it had a hold button on it but it's not stereo and does not have a snyc feature . Doing some guitar loops. Thanks!

I think they are both quite subtle, and perhaps the cakewalk one more so. This really has a lot more options, which in the long run will be helpful.

Thanks for this review! I've heard about tape saturation plug ins before and had been looking at this one in particular. How does this measure up to other plug ins of this type... (Steven Slate.... UAD etc...) even at the $99 US Price point this still looks like a good investment for my toolbox...

nice video, but I really wish you would have mentioned it was iLok.. such a pain to install that I would have bought baby Audio Taip instead maybe. No one likes ilok and I really don't like that it installed PACE on my computer. Good thing I test all plugins on my laptop before they go on the studio PC.

I always have difficulties with "subtle" effects. What is the point in using them, when you can only hear a difference with studio equipment? My songs will be listened to heavily compressed on YT or Smartphones. I could hear the change especially on lower speed settings, but I couldn't hear any difference between 15 and 30. Even the noise was almost non-existent. And I listened with studio headphones (the same I use to mix). The whole topic reminds me a bit of homeopathy - you will say it works, if you believe in it.

There is credibility to what you say, in that if you don't feel its adds anything don't use it. Some people say the type of wood used for the body of an electric guitar makes a difference. I personally don't hear it. On the other hand, the wood of an acoustic is like a fingerprint to me, each is very unique. The one thing I will say, is that the differences I hear is very subtle, and may differ from one song to another. But you raise a very valid observation, thank you!

Sometimes saturation is used as a mixing tool and not so much an audible effect. And this type of saturation might be the kind of saturation that a certain audio source is calling for. Or it might not.

I like to think that a good mix it's built around multiple steps that create the final product. It's subtle incremental details like this that add up and get you to a good sounding mix.

To be honest, the way you use this particular plugin is by driving the input volume in the hidden menu, so you get more colouration, then you start hearing the depth of the effect, otherwise the effect can be too subtle to hear when just using the amount knob, as the default colour is actually a low saturation setting, many other saturation plugins will give you an already hot input signal automatically to give you that wow factor when you first use it. Your brain is telling you “it’s louder” that means it’s good, and I like how softube hasn’t felt the need to do this.

@@tomleermusic I was just fiddling with it and stumbled across this!!! Raised the hidden input up to the brink of clipping then backed it off a little, pulled the output slider down a bit then bam!!! I could hear the difference in the various knobs. At first I couldn’t hear ANY difference whether it be on my studio monitors or grado cans. I treated it like it was one of my tube guitar amps lol

There are two issues I would like to mention. First - you are using good music for the demonstration of this plugin. Most people just use stupid, boring and silly downloaded loops to demonstrate a plugin. Music should be played by real musicians using real instruments. And second - your explanation of this plugin is very informative. Keep up the good work and thanks for this video.

I don’t understand why you would add saturation if the goal is to get clean clear and crisp mixes... what am I missing?

You typically dont want to use saturation to the point of distorting anything, just to beef up certain instruments without having to use compression or losing dynamics. Some people even use it to glue instruments and the track as a whole together.

No. Its my opinion. As I said in the video, I'm not getting paid for this. Also note that I wasn't entirely complimentary. Although I think this is worth buying I think the noise feature, and run/stop feature are not at all useful to me.

It's about the harmonic character it adds. If you put in on different instruments it would make more sense. I love tape on drum busses. The harmonic and compression it adds is amazing. I've never used this plugin but most tape plugins is very noticeable especially if you slam the signal

Try adding it to all your tracks!. I had tried once and I got horrible results!. I applied a tape saturation plugin as an fx channel on my orchestral template.
