My husband is a drug addict meth and heroin. He lives on the streets homeless. Our daughter said the other day she didn't care what he did or what he was on, she said we don't have to talk mommy I just wanted to hold his hand like I use to. Your child will forgive you. You just have to reach out. They just want to hold your hand. Words don't need to be said.

I don’t know how old your daughter is but that feeling may not last forever. After years of my addict mother being absent, now that I’m an adult and she’s trying to be back in my life and expects me to spend all this time with her when she hasn’t apologized for all the pain/ violence and neglect she’s treated me and my whole family with I don’t really have any interest in having a relationship with her and certainly don’t when she doesn’t even have enough respect for us to apologize.

She’s a Veteran. She has/had people who love her. This is someone’s everything. She’s well aware this isn’t a good spot she’s in, you can hear her at the end say “I don’t want them (her kids/family) to see me like this, this isn’t who I am” that really hit me. Because she knows. My childhood looked great looking from the outside, clean home, well fed, dressed like dolls. Only problem was behind closed doors stood a monster. My mom should be glad that out of her 6 kids only 2 became functioning addicts & all they talk about when we try to get them to stop is how f*cked up our childhood was growing up with my mom because we were good kids & we had a great stepdad who my mother kicked out into the streets. A very hard working man who did nothing but come home to his children. & we stood there listening to her lie to everyone about the reason she kicked him out was because he molested us which was a total lie. Thank God I never turned to drugs from the despair.

There you have it. Loosing a child is your worst fear. As strung out as she is, taking all those drugs to numb herself from feeling, NOT the state where you could even IMAGINE to cope with loosing a kid on top of everything else. I'm guessing deep inside she knows he's gone, it's something you feel as a mother, she is simply too afraid to face the reality of it.If she could, she would. I'm sure of it. Awww. This is one of the people I truly do feel for. I myself am a recovering addict. I used heroin and crack for 12 years. She seems like such a sweetheart. The drugs are just tearing her apart. I was the type of addict who people would look at and say “no fucking way you’re a drug addict you don’t look like a drug addict at all! You’re so put together!” Just goes to show you that there is no specific look for a drug addict. At times I was functioning, job car money apartment , the works. And other times I was down in the dumps, sold my car for drugs and everything I owned. Drugs are absolutely awful. They will steal everything you have/are. This women clearly had her shit together at some point. It’s sad to actually see things from a third person perspective. He made a pretty comfortable life for himself, for a few years, till the addiction got completely out of control. He ended up living with my grandparents & that’s the only thing that kept him alive for as long as it did. He passed away 5yrs ago, after overdosing for the last time. He had overdosed 5 days prior & was in the ICU. Came home & did it again. Previous to those he overdosed over a dozen times. Someone always found him in time, except for that last time. Life in the military is often rough for women. Rape and sexual assault (along with other traumas and abuses) is not uncommon for women. And it's very rare that they are able to report it and have anything meaningful be done about it. In fact, they are often the ones punished (directly/openly and covertly) for speaking up about it. Many of the women I know who have served in the military talk about experiences with sexual assault... then there's just the fact that much of their training and stuff is very physically demanding. Many of them are young and already getting hip/knee replacements. Any of that sort of physical and/or emotional trauma can absolutely lead someone down a path like this.

@@actuallyNo... I've been dealing with addicts and addiction in one role or another for about a quarter of a century now. So, I've learned a few things. "Functioning Addict" is a term that means what you want it to mean. Yesterday, while passing Boston's North Station at the end of my day, I saw a young lady dressed in clean and fashionable clothing. She looked like a receptionist or secretary. However, she was standing while doubled over, a cigarette dangling from her insensate fingers. You could say she was functional until 5:15 PM and hopefully would be functional again by 7:00 AM Monday morning. If she had children, I'd think calling her functional would be a stretch. If she'd been shooting her paycheck, ditto. I know Human Services folks who call an addict "Functional" if they can pick up their methadone every morning before returning to the homeless shelter. I'm sure you'd agree, that's not a very high standard. One case that crossed my desk involved a "Functioning Addict" who was a medical professional. In a moment of crisis it was determined that he was less functional than he though he was, and someone suffered for that. Every addict starts off thinking they are William S. Boroughs or Charlie Parker. Truth is, even the most shit-together addicts are Philip Seymour Hoffman, playing their luck until their luck runs out.

Well unfortunately, heroin and meth both are the devil's drug and they will take away your soul. If you have never been there I am grateful that you haven't been, but I have been and I can tell you it will make you forget everything. Your kids your mom your dad yourself. She may not know because she clearly stated that she hasnt talked to them in years and it may not be by her own choice it may be by their choice, no one wants to see their mother drug addict on the nod on heroin. It is sad and you said it is sad as well but you are also judging her when you don't even understand what she is going through. Someone who has never been there cannot understand how you could not talk to your children even for more than a week but drugs takes all that away from you. I watched a very decent people get on the needle and the next thing you know they lose everything and not only that they start selling their body and they would not have done that prior to being on the needle. Drugs changes every single aspect about you.

I’m watching because drug addicts took over 2 foreclosed homes next to us. We were retired moved to another state to care for my dad who had Alzheimer’s. As many as 14 were living in one home and sadly one person died. We had items stolen and were threatened. It took a year of phone calls to the police, city, the bank and even the fire department to get them out. I We heard the fight when they broke the toilet so it was no surprise they left behind buckets of vomit and feces in the backyard. We had to fence our yard and install security cams and alarms. I was googling things like what does meth smell like? They sadly destroy themselves, their families and innocent people who come into their orbit. I cried with tears of relief when the police did a sweep.

Most people who encounter those like Launa understandably feel a profound sense of pity & compassion, and want to help. But what I can tell you about this natural and well-intentioned impulse, from my own direct experience as a would-be "helper", is that those such as Launa have burned all their bridges with family and personal friends LONG AGO, and are beyond any real help or hope of rehabilitation. By the time they get as bad off as Launa is, they've usually been given countless loans, favors, reboots, and "help" of numerous kinds, none of which has actually helped to rehabilitate them, but only made them a little more comfortable for awhile and put a flimsy and temporary band-aid on a festering cancer of addiction. Tragically, there comes a point where an addict is systemically overpowered by their addiction; they are literally and completely owned or "possessed" by their drug(s) of choice. If they could be involuntarily confined, detoxed, and rehabilitated without any opportunities for relapse they would have a chance; but unless they are sent to prison where they can receive such treatment in a controlled and "relapse-safe" environment , there is no hope for such people who are walking free on the streets. We can still feel compassion for them, we can still give them whatever gifts or money we are moved to provide, but we must realize that our "help" is confined to the realm of comfort only, and will not achieve the life-changing rehabilitation they need. Some are irretrievably beyond help, and beyond hope.

Trump knows about Addiction, he is Teetotal, his Brother was an alcoholic and died young. Here in the U.K. As soon as you start working you get a NHS Number, and funds are deducted from your Salary to pay for the service we have, not sure why your Country can't do it. People here get very upset when the system is abused by those who have not put anything in "the Pot" - but we do have a service that helps all kinds of Addicts.

Oh thank you so much for this channel. Before any non addicts judge anyone please understand how much we addicts see ourselves in these people. Girl girl same on the everything is flat without your substance. But she says it in a funnyish way. Its more dramatic than that. Its not flat. So much as dead, blank, confusing, scary, sad. I cant put it in words but when she said that I got it. As far as kids, I was in rehab once stone sober and I had just been in a situation where I up and ran away and no one knew where I was...even me...and I was sitting in this rehab and it hit me that I abandoned my family and it HURT. SO MUCH HURT. But I HAD to feel it. This was years ago and I'll never get over that pain and fear. Girl you have to feel it to make it better. Im best mom ever now. Literally I can say the one thing I do right is be a mom. If you make the call and feel the pain it is hard. So hard. It takes time and won't be fun. They are going to be MAD. But. Remember this I am so close to my kids. They love me SO MUCH. I pull from my awfulness to help them. It is the one thing I can die and say I did this spot on. Do it. Feel the pain. Do it. Take the anger. Recovery is hard. Not going to lie. Everyday its hard. But when me and my son and my daughter are sitting in my kitchen laughing til I cry those are the moments. Life is mostly hard for us all. Its those tiny sparks of pure joy that see us through. Please nobody judge this women...any of them becuase they help us addicts see who we are and were and feel that we aren't alone. I get you girl. You can do it.

It's always "Oh my childhood was amazing" and then they go on to explain that both of their parents were alcoholics or otherwise negligent or abusive. Abuse makes a person blind to violence...

It was in early 90s when I was in LA for about a week and saw all those homeless people more than I could have ever imagined seeing in one spot. Trust me we had plenty where I'm from another major city in the south. But this man never runs out of people to interview I've been trying to watch from the oldest videos to the newest and I can't catch up at or 3 a day he seems to be adding interviews daily

My god... contact your kids and at least tell them you love them and miss them!! Who cares if you don’t know what to say 🤦‍♀️ the worst thing ever is feeling unloved or neglected by your mother. I bet most people on the streets are there because they have felt this way. And this woman is doing the same thing 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I wish I could hear more about her military background and see if it's a big part of her addiction, or if it affect it in some way. I also really hope she went to a hospital and got those wounds taken care of properly. I am praying that you heal Launa and I know you are afraid to reach out to your kids because you are filled with guilt and shame, but just know you can get better and reunite with them.

@@shennabolger9627 I bet you believe everything you hear on the news. Krokodil was a name given to desomorphine which was being produced in Russia due to the heroin being too expensive for the addicts there, it is made in Russia because it is a quick way to make your own dope to slang, in the U.S we have the luxury of receiving the newest analogue of fentanyl basically every week, which is cheaper and more effective than "krokodil", don't go spreading propaganda lady

I’m 25 and a mom of two girls 2yr and 4yr. I’ve smoked weed since about 14 ( yes I know very young lol ) but I guess a part of me to was in denial because I never agreed with weed being a gateway drug. This was an eye opener she was smoking pot and tried a little coke and went straight to crack! Now meth and heroin . My children are my life and as a single mom I would never imagine being a version of myself that isn’t apart of their lives. - sorry for the dissertation but finally glad we can comment now !!!

Start telling the people you interview that they can get a free cell phone from DSHS, that way they have a way to contact you, and others who could possibly help them. Having a phone while on the street makes a huge difference.
