Old video, new comment. I carried the predecessor to that, the Seal 2000 while active duty. While in the Marines I used that as my primary field knife. I have chopped through fairly thick saplings (4-5 inches) and thinner to make aiming stakes, or to clear brush out while in the field. I have dug holes, chopped cinder blocks (aiming holes) and occasionally opened MRE's. It is true, that it is a military inspired knife first. The knife was meant to be durable, and reasonably easy to sharpen. In all the years I abused it it never chipped or lost the tip. It could use a good sharpening on a belt, but it never failed to deliver utility for the price I paid. Knives are a compromise, like many things we buy. Cars, homes, tools, firearms, etc. I wanted to buy a new field knife, and there are many great choices but watching this video brought back memories and I felt comforted that if all I had was my old knife I would still be okay. Stay safe.

I think the Seal Team did better than he thought it would

Great review! I had a SOG Seal Team Pup, which is the smaller version, no serrations, no coating and you are right, it is made of AUS8. The good points were the handle and sheath system........the bad.....and it is a real BIG bad was the edge retention was awful.

I guess serations are a person preference. Ive had good lucky feathering with them.

A lot of stainless steels are strong but brittle they did a good job of making the 420hc tough.

I've been getting frustrated looking for a knife with some actual utility. That big knife looks more like what I'm looking for. A lot of the market has been taken over by somewhat useless "tacticool" products. I had never heard of Habilis knives before this. Looks like it would be great for food prep as well.

How does this knife do in terms of rust? I mean it's a "SEAL" knife. So that means it can go in the ocean? Will it rust?
