In this video, I talk about soldering irons. I've had the biggest problem with soldering irons just finding ones that'll work right and I want to share with you what I've learned about soldering 18650 cells so you don't make the same mistake I have made. I've tried several soldering irons and I've tried several soldering irons that are just crap. With each soldering iron, I get different results. I will show you what I've done research on what I've tried, and I'll show you what I've actually found so let's get into it.

I had bought 300watt, and 90watt non worked until I stumbled on your video. I bought a cheap 100watt and it worked like magic. Thank you for sharing your experience.

On my last battery I had the local sheet metal shop cut some 1/4" wide copper buss bars out of sheet metal. So much easier to solder the fuse wire. Thanks for posting the soldering iron overview.

The tip your using makes a huge difference I am using a hakko iron up to 899 degrees with different tips. If you notice the iron that works well in your video has a large chiseled end allowing for faster heat transfer. Great video !!!!! Your series is great

Haces unos vídeos muy buenos. Gracias👍. I just tried with a 26wats welder with a thin tip and just a little bit of flux onnthe surface and a mix of 60% tin 38% led and 2% copper and no problem.

I am looking at two weller irons. Their 100 watt industrial iron w100pg. Which is what you showed. And their 175w consumers iron sp175 with an orange handle. They are the same price on amazon. Do you think there will be any benefit to the extra power of the 175w iron. If not I think the green handle weller’s are better made. They are both rated for 900 degrees.

What did you do? Did you buy a 100w soldering iron? What was the result?

another good video, how about a lithium powered soldering iron lol, the 1400watt iron I found they do work well trying to stick the solder on steel cable and maybe better taking the broke end bending into a shorter end there's usually enough on 1 leg to get it to work a insulator or heat shield between the forks would help, just like a mini inductor without the coil.

I think the reason he hasn't used vruzend or spotwelding is because he chose to fuse the cells. Ideally being able to fuse and spot weld would be the best of both worlds

I have no idea how you can possibly " go through tips" that bad. No reason unless your using the wrong flux like acid flux. I solder almost every day and haven't changed my tips for years and they are still solid .

Hi, I'm trying to gather information about soldering . Actually I've a specific problem, it takes around 3 seconds for the solder to melt... and if it's in contact with a cable it takes much more. Based on your video I'm considering buying a better soldering iron... I'm using a 50w ... I'm going to buy a better solder iron... maybe 100w. Thank you.

Please dont laugh, I was using a 30watts one... only getting globes and it burns and I can use 10% of the soldering tips :( Im getting a cooper head one of 80watts, thinking on get one of 100watts

research showed that the weller depends on tip types to control temperature so need to get biggest as shown in video here- on ebay it states in one add only a 700 degree tip available so not too sure about this

I get that, I still thin that the hotter the tip the better. You will spend less time touching the cell which will mean the heat will not travel as deep into the cell. But I could be wrong. I have not seen any issues with the way I'm currently doing it. Thanks for the comment.

why don't spot-welding?

Soldering is irreversible. Not with spot welding. Spot welding is cleaner with no harm done for testing different strips and power to find best results.

I use fuses and they would be a pain to spot weld. Plus I did not want to buy a spot welder.

Clean the excess flux off after soldering or it will cause problems later on.
