(Edit: I never expected this many views, and so much love and support for this video, and my lifestyle. Thank you all. However, I feel it's important to note now that I did not create these to be "KZfaq videos," or to monetize in any way. I simply uploaded them to KZfaq in order to share them more easily with friends and family. So I can't say there's another one in the pipeline yet, but hopefully I'll be inspired to make more soon :) Also worth noting - Mara Noka and I have completed another North Atlantic crossing with ‪@womenthewind4226‬, we filmed the whole thing, and we are now in the process of putting together a documentary (2023). Love you all!)
Instead of writing about this voyage, as I was already far behind in publishing stories anyways, I decided to document the trip on my iPhone SE (with no case and a cracked screen - we made it). This is a very long, boring, scenic video of my solo E to W Atlantic Crossing in 2020, escaping from Spanish lockdown to be closer to my family near the Caribbean.

Dear Kiana, this was such an entertaining, interesting, beautiful, and captivating video. And I really liked the sounds. From the wonderful worldly style music to the sounds of the ocean. I feel like I got to go on this adventure with you. I would give anything on earth if I only could have. But then I wouldn't want throw off or impose on your peace of mind in solitude on your journey. I grew up in a sailing family as a young boy, and my father was a boat designer and builder of catamarans, and so when I stumbled on this video, it caught my eye. All these years and I never knew about Mr. Wharram's interesting life and quest to explore catamaran design and sailing adventures. The wharram's seem a lot slower than what I'm used to, but there are many things about them that are undeniably good. The first thing I noticed is the simplicity, balance, and the strength of the construction and rigging. The next is how functional, comfortable, and nice the interior space is. Then for it's length there is relatively very little structure above deck, which comes in handy when you don't want a lot of windage creating unnecessary drag slowing you down or blowing you off the heading that you want to keep. And the general design of the boat seems very sea worthy with the double ended hulls, it fits in nicely to the swells. I notice that you have many ocean sailing skills that seem to be instinctual like you may have spent some time sailing as you grew up. You seem to have a sixth sense about how to do what's right, safe, and pleasant. Just keep your eye out for harsh weather, high seas, and shallower oceans and coastlines where rogue waves might break. You seem to have every angle covered. I'm looking forward to seeing your next adventure. And above all you are one of the most beautiful women that I have ever seen in my entire life. Happy sails to you.

Dear Kiana I used to sail a lot on the Adriatic, it's a small sea compared to the oceans. There are also Adriatic winds of 70 knots, and because of the many islands there is shelter, but it can also be dangerous. I was not lucky enough to meet a Lady like you who enjoys modest and small things. God willing, I will soon set sail in this way myself, but on a trip around the world. I know Wharram catamarans well, I built a Tiki 31 when I was twenty, but because of the war in Croatia in the nineties, it was destroyed and afterwards there were never enough dollars to rebuild it. I'm one of those who could sail with a woman like you and only occasionally stop by land. I wish you a calm sea, lots of happiness and a kindred spirit with whom you will brighten up these moments of solitude, happiness and sadness. Dubravko.

To me it's obvious your experience at sea and I identify with you for keeping it simple, minimum amount of electronic instruments, electric devices and engines. And the skills to build and repair stuff as needed while navigating your craft across an ocean. Modest, humble and clever. Keep it up, and pass it on. Thanks for sharing

Quite possibly one of the finest sailing videos I have seen. A landlubber like me comes to see sailing videos to experience the romance of the sea, to live vicariously through those who have been more fortunate or braver to leave land behind. Often, sailing videos focus on the technology, on wind vanes and route plotting software and the latest doodads on board, but this video is different. Simple, beautiful, with absolutely lovely music, it struck a chord with me like no other. Well done, and may you always have fair winds and following seas. And thanks for sharing your adventure and allowing us to come along. 🙏🏾

And that motor, you whipped it around like you were swinging a cat. And the music is superb. This is not your first rodeo. Many details were left unaddressed. That's how it is in a dream. You may have inaugurated a new form of journalism.

My time for adventure and sailing is gone. Whether I wanted it or not, the passion remained unchanged, just like in the times when it was enough for a guy from our entourage to come up with an idea, and the rest of us, without even a minute to think, jumped to make it happen however impossible and crazy that idea may seem. Dear Kiana, in November on the 24th I will be 65 years old and I can say that until now, I have met very few people as true and with such a strong character as yours. Kiana, without a doubt, the video you posted is an inspiration to all young people of your age and not only. It is strong and sensitive, true and dreamy, and last but not least, balm for the soul. All at the same time. It is the truest of all the navigation videos posted by KZfaqrs and seen by me so far. Thank you, stay as you are, never change! Fair winds and following seas, ma'am, always!

The Carnary Islands are quite a crossroads for cruisers. When I passed through there during my Eastabout singlehanded circumnavigation most of the sailors I met were headed west across the Atlantic, but I was headed to South Africa on the next leg of my trip. I moved ashore again a few years ago, but as Jimmy Buffett sang, "so many nights I just dream of the ocean, God I wish I was sailin' again". (Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes)

wow, this is an amazing video. I think this might be my favorite ocean crossing youtube video. firstly the vibe is amazing. the boat is fascinating! there is so much rustic unfinished wood. the mast and boom appear to be whole trees. the main sail look like it's made from a discarded jib, I can see the UV wear strip on it. And there is even a little shack with a tin roof (and solar panel) on deck! but also the way you express the emotional journey of the trip is unlike any other sailing video I've seen on this site. so raw and authentic.

Absolutely beautiful! Natural, unpretentious, powerful, evocative. So much more said than what was said. Thank you so much for sharing that experience... Now I have no excuse with my boat... But.. This was 2 years ago... More? What happened...

Doug, thanks for your kind words and curiosity. After arriving in the Caribbean, I sailed to Florida, hauled the boat out, spent 1 year on a major refit, and after splashing completed another Atlantic crossing (this time for @womenandthewind). Mara Noka and I are now in the Azores getting ready to head on to the south of Brazil.

This is a crazy adventure, unlike any other I have seen on KZfaq. That you did this by yourself on a rustic homemade boat is very unusual. Your filming, editing, choice of music is spot on. Good luck on your future travels. I am looking forward to tuning in.

Your video just popped up in my feed. What an amazing woman. Such a casual approach, like" I think I will cross the Atlantic today", just wow, and solo too. What an experience and amazing journey it must have been. That boat looks so old and rickety but obviously capable of such a voyage.

I love your videos, they’re so real and they actually make everything else look like high drama…..you also seem so relaxed and confident about what you’re doing & where you are. I thought it was very “telling” that you were more concerned about whether the other boat got your wishes for a good trip, than you were about your radio going out!!

Thanks for this. I used to have this kind of emotions whole crossing mountains alone, for weeks. And you just made me realise that the sea can offer precisely the same thing. Food for thought. And respect to you.

Dear Kiana. I am preparing a 33ft, 40 year old Sailboat to be my home, my castle and all. I am in Spain, preparing last things to start to sail to Gran Canaria and cross then the Atlantic. I am very positively surprised about your Boat. It is a very simple, proven design, yes but more so about you. Your personality, your smile are wonderfull. You truly spend inner peace, hope and warmth. Simply beautyfull to see a woman, so different and at peace with very little. God bless you. Your video is very inspiring. Thank you
