I head back into the Australian bush for a 3 day solo bushcraft trip, where I wild camp by a stunning river and try my luck fishing for Murray Cod. This was a fantastic trip exploring new country and I can't wait to return to this beautiful spot. Hope you all enjoy.

When you go far into the forest, when your phone is silent, it does not catch the signal, and the sleeping bag on the foam replaces your favorite bed! When your dinner is boiling in a black pot on a hot fire, and all your clothes are soaked through with smoke. You forget about all your problems, they simply do not exist, there is you and the silence of the forest! The silence from which is muffling. Your senses sharpen as you hear the wind, the rustle of grass, and leaves. The creaking of the trunks. At this moment, you feel that you are alive, you are alive now, you listen to your breath, your heart, Nothing can replace these feelings. You are cleansed of all that weighed on you yesterday. Just you and nature. And you're on your own. You're alive now, and that's all that matters. For this we go to the forest. To experience it, over and over again. Those who have experienced it will understand. Those who have not experienced it, still have everything ahead of them. Thank you for giving me this feeling. Thank you for making such content that attracts people to put on a backpack and go to wander along the forest path, your work makes people really happy. 👍My channel on You Tube is just starting to take shape. If you don't mind, please put a few likes and a couple of short comments.

Cod fishing is tough at the best of times, but after heavy rain and during winter it only gets harder. Based on the weather systems you likely had a very low barometer. While a rapidly dropping barometer is said to sometimes produce some hot fishing windows, it's traditional wisdom that high barometer produces the best fishing conditions. In terms of technique, you should almost always be casting upstream and bringing the lure back with the current. Less of an issue in the slower moving pools, but it still feels like a more natural presentaiton of your lure to me to do it where possible. Murray cod are an ambush predator, so they need a spot both out of the current (e.g. behind or directly infront of a rock or timber) and they also need their spot to have some sort of hydraulic diveristy nearby (e.g. somethign to bring their food relatively close). Focus on structure that meets these main criteria, but at the same time in upland rivers like this there will be some of the best habitat meeting these criteria under water where you can't see it at all. They're called the fish of thousand casts for a reason, and it's also why they're so magical to catch. Go back in early december during stable weather and the fishing will almost certainly be more rewarding. So will the swimming :) Good luck.

Always cast up into the top of fast water for feeding cod, or when not feeding throw to the bank and retrieve back in over under cut banks, laydowns and holes. Fast falling barometer is best like you said because they have swim bladders and theyre effected by grabity and barometrics but most ppl think cod are lazy and just sit in holes, but they're not dropping the muzz lol. It's a game of nouse and 1000casts.

Hey Scottie, since you're keen to keep on improving your fishing, I've got a suggestion. This latest camp looks like it would be an ideal spot to catch freshwater crayfish. All you need is a fold-down crayfish trap. Best bait for your hike-in is small cans of cat food. just puncture the tin and strap it in. Looking at the creek, you should catch heaps. Just cook in salty water. Better than lobster.

There were some pretty good looking eddies and still water - looked niiice. I'm not sure where this is, but if its the southeast Queensland granite belt, there are some good fish to be had. Sometimes fish can just shut down due to barometric pressure and/or storms. Surface lures such as the jitterbug and also some spinner-baits should do the trick from a lure perspective. Not forgetting that is one beautiful place, and a bad days fishin beats a good days working every time LOL.

I love how your channel focuses on the emotion that we outdoors enthusiast felt whenever we're in the outdoors by ourself or maybe with few of our mates. However, I'd love to know the gears that you use during your trips to take pictures and videos. I believe the more we share the beauty of nature and promote how to do a responsible activity in the outdoor, either for the casual outdoor enthusiast or season one would be a great thing to do and promote.
