Being an avid hiker, I've spent years watching countless thousands of hours of hiking videos. This one is by far my favorite. The honesty, the trials, the joy. Absolutely Brilliant. Your enthusiasm in the face of adversity is inspiring. Thank you Imogen. Please keep posting your amazing videos.

Had mice running over me in house with mango trees outside QLD. Walked track about your age with 3 others. No eperb. Unlucky with rodent, usually a few bangs on tent will discourage. Swimming new river must have maxed you out. Slow pull without pack would have done it. Always zip tent. Went opposite direction & Louisa Bay stop saw lighthouse. Can do solo but red hills & shear distance is more comfortable when your pack it lightened if injured in group.

20:08 Lady, you got it ... I've hiked for decades and don't know how I could hike 20 odd km and then climb that mountain! So cold soaking meals: did you not carry a stove the whole time? I cold soak, but appreciate a couple of hot meals/drinks a day :)

You must have had food in the tent. Get a metal mesh rodent proof bag, put your food in a dry bag inside the mesh bag and hang it from a tree or stake it down. Never keep food including used packets of any description inside the tent. The wildlife will tear a hole in the tent or your pack if they smell food.

I feel bad for laughing at 'I don't care if it's pouring down rain and I have a busted knee' comment. I want to do Western Arthur Range Traverse in Tassie, and all the videos I see people talk of the rats at the first camp-site. Everyone seems nonchalant about it, and mentally I am not coping with how I would handle that. The worst I have had is a wombat (or I think it was) chewing through a tent at Wilson's prom. My friend was saying it wasn't, but when I was hitting the tent it felt like I was hitting a rock. In the morning sure enough there was a hole chewed through in the tent. I don't blame you for getting the hell out of there. I think most people would have done the same. Foul! You are right not one to recommend for everyone lol. That was a full on challenge! Still don't understand the boats crossing, might look that one up. Another great video nonetheless. Am really enjoying these, not sure if it is the videos but I have definitely even been more motivated in my day to day tasks, which is great - because I really felt I was in a rut. Now I am all inspired, getting things ticked off the to do list :)

Just goes to show that panic is the most dangerous thing, v. Good of you to take on your fears snakes and rats, but that, not having a plan b or doing that night hike really nearly got you caught out. Glad you were smiling towards the end. Maybe have a canister to cold soak food in future.

Thanks for the very helpful vids! Question with the rat chewing into your tent (and no, you were definitely not a sook!) - was your food or rubbish inside the tent? Always interested to hear with these campsites if they're going for food smells or have reached the point of just going for any tent regardless! Thanks

These videos are great. Appreciate the candidness, it gives a much clearer sense of the hike and conditions. Very important for would-be walkers to know. We are doing it over the Xmas hols this year, can't wait! If I could ask, what, if any, training did you do for it? How did you find the Red Point Range climb, I have read that it's short but tough, but I don't think you mention it? Oh, and are the beaches firm to walk at high tide, or is it better to time the beach sections for low tide? Finally, should I invest in some quick-dry trail runners? Ps. The rat deffo chewed into your tent, they are relentless when they get a whiff of food in a tent. I had a possum chew into my tent while I was sleeping. Woke up when it ran over my leg haha. Scary wake up! I now use a rodent bag and hang it outside. So apart from the rats, is that a good camp site? And hey you carried a book with you!? Legend! I absolutely have to read each night so am tossing up my options on how to manage that. Those last two days looked intense! Many thanks! 😁

Ooooh that's so exciting! In terms of training I already had a pretty good base level, mostly did runs leading up to it. Definitely recommend strength training before going because I was in a fair bit of knee and hip pain towards the end. I have not heard of Red Point Range climb, The main climb on the South Coast Track is Iron Bound Ranges which takes most people a day to climb and go down. I had no trouble on the beaches there was plenty of firmness regardless of the time of day. Personally, for me trail runnings were amazing, in the sense I have experienced really bad blisters in the past. From not wearing boots it made a massive difference. Especially since your feet will be wet for majority if not the entire hike. Yehhh it was a nice campsite since it was right on the beach and next to a creek, however I will never be staying there again ahahah. Yes love to have a book with me, I think in terms of weight one book is worth it for keeping the mind busy in the evenings. Thank you so much for watching and best of luck with your hike!!! : )

@@ImogenBall thanks for the reply. Yup, you really smashed your knees on that walk! Red Point Hills are between Point Eric and Louisa River. It's a 360m climb over 800m, which many walkers complain about. I guess you just took it in your stride 👍

@@TheWamjet Ahhh yess I remember! It was quite challenging terrain and very windy. Took a lot longer to walk 10km, however I also really enjoyed this section as the views are amazing and track is more diverse than the start of the track. In terms of difficulty I found the boat crossing much harder, which is just after this section. Hahaha

@@ImogenBall yeah we are leaving two days to get across that water. If it's not right we'll camp and wait it out. How did you swim your pack across without it filling with water? Or did it?
@ImogenBall
@ImogenBall 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheWamjet on the first boat crossing I used the boat…it would be virtually impossible to swim across with your pack. On the second boat crossing I just paddled across with a life vest and my waterproof bag over the top of my bag and then hoped for the best. It’s a river so a lot easier than the first. In the end though my sleeping bag got wet but everything else remained mostly dry 😅
