Yakiniku is Japanese barbeque and is usually enjoyed family style. However there is a restaurant in Tokyo that caters to solo diners. On this video, we're going to enjoy some Yakiniku at YAKINIKU LIKE. They have many branches located throughout Japan.

I absolutely love how Japan embraces the solo dining experience! It seems odd to go to a K/JBBQ place alone or any restaurant for that matter but with places like this, Ichiran, or Ikinari, it seems perfectly normal to just enjoy a nice meal and drink by yourself. Ultimate self-care/love

So true. I once sat in a café on a nice sunny sunday afternoon and because there were so many people on the streets the café was full. A couple asked if it is okay to sit at my table and so we talked to each other. But the woman was bewildered because I was on my own (as a woman). No, she would never do that! :D But hey it was just a spontanous trip and I was a single. But I didn't want to sit at home alone. I never had a problem going out alone but a lot of people are really bewildered If I do, especially as a woman. In Germany. Were woman can do that if they want. Oh boy ... society.

Gotta love the 70s/80s rock in the background. The food looks good too! When I lived in Japan "strawberry shortcake" was a completely different concept than what I grew up with in the USA. Here, we literally use "shortcake" sponge (usually it's just the bottom half of a biscuit) for the bottom layer (about a half inch thick), pile in a bunch of chopped and sugared strawberries, and then top it with whipped cream (fresh or from a can) and the other half of the biscuit and add more strawberries and cream on top. In Japan, it's an entire cake - which to me is not "shortcake" but just a "strawberry cake." lol...

Love the concept of an individual grilling station. The meats looked delicious...... As for dessert, I usually choose something chocolate..... I love dense desserts like fudge, peanut butter pie with a thick layer of fudge or ganache, ice cream, and chocolate chip cookies. Sometimes I want something fresh and fruity, like a key lime pie or chocolate dipped strawberries. Yummy.

Great video! This is such a neat idea for a restaurant. Allows you to get a decent meal without needing to be with a group of people. Wish we had more places like this in the US. When I used to go to restaurants, yes, I too went with somebody. But, we were so immersed in eating--and in conversation before, during, and after our meal--we paid no attention whatsoever to who was dining alone. We momentarily noticed someone new being seated then continued on with the activities at our table.

This is actually a result of the work culture in Japan being completely exhausting and toxic. There's less couples, less families and less children. Everybody is constantly working. They aren't here to normalize eating alone, they exist as a result of people having nobody to eat with.
@Scriptor13
@Scriptor13 2 жыл бұрын
@@GnomePuntTrainerYT I understand. My point was that whatever the reason people eat alone, at least there are specific physical accommodations made for them. In the U.S., people eating solo are generally seated at tables or in booths made to seat multiple persons. Or solo diners may have to sit at a counter and are made conspicuous in their solitude.

I love that you showed us a restaurant where you are able to cook your different meats, as done or as rare as you want. With very tasty sides like rice, (and the 80’s music I heard in the background like Van Halen, Stray Cats, Journey, The Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, Stevie Wonder and etc. I heard playing in the background, of the restaurant) onions and more. If I every back towards Japan, again, I will have to do that place and the desert shop you guys went to. I absolutely adore strawberry shortcake (when done right) and not too sweet, with a great cuppa unsweetened hot tea… especially at Strawberry festival time, here the Tampa Bay Area. The festival is around Late February or early March (they have a big line up of musical acts for the two weeks it is open). I love living near the strawberry and blueberry capital of the southern United States. Again thank you for sharing your time and side of the world with all of us. also small detail just if somebody knows, when they were getting outside the Caffe Superiore they waited for a couple of ladies to pass first, then they said "sumimasen" which im sure is like "excuse me" or something like that. But then he says "Arigato gozaimasu" which is thank you but in a very polite way right? Im confused because in México if that were the issue, sure the ladies would say in that same situation "disculpa" or maybe "con permiso" which mean "sorry" and "going in sorry (this one you say it a bit before crossing what you need to cross so people know you are in kind of a hurry)" Actually maybe even something like the ladies looking at the guys and saying "Gracias" or "Muchas gracias" which mean thank you and thank you very much respectively and the guys doing a hand gesture saying something like "Sure no problem" idk i started thinking about that too much as you may have noticed haha srry

Hehe you are going to a solo barbeque restaurant as a pair :-) Love this! I like going solo to Japan (did this in 2018 and 2019 and can't wait to be back). Also nearly at the entrance of Nakano Broadway. Perfect.

It's wild to hear Journey playing in a barbeque in Tokyo. Yakiniku to classic rock with friends sounds like a great time.

That strawberry shortcake looks amazing. Personally i prefer anything mango but that cake is a close second.

Strawberry shortcake....love it when I was younger living in Tampa Florida, we used to have a strawberry festival. Shortcake everywhere.

These places are brilliant and I wish America would adopt places like this but unfortunately I don't see that ever happening 😕 😢 😞 😔

Some of you might be glad to know there’s an all-you-can-eat version of this as well, plus conveyor belts plus ordering on the phone. Total solo experience.

It's nice to see a solo dining thing start up in earnest. That's one of the reasons I don't go out to eat much in the first place! Great idea that's sure to get more popular with time.

they open here in Jakarta as well, around the same time it first opened there (it has been operating about a year or so) so it kinda surprised me to know they are in Japan too (I thought it was a local yakiniku store 🤣). They are good if you want to eat beef but cannot handle all you can eat style (like me) so i do go there often 🥰

The surprising part to me is how cheap the beer is, even the worst of the worst would be like $7 or 8 where I'm at for that amount.
