Made a nice little loop hike this weekend to hit Mt Whiteface, East / West Sleeper, and South / Middle Tripyramid. I debated hitting North Tripyramid too but had been there before and was running quite low on water with it being such a hot weekend so decided to just head down instead.
Went up the Downes Brook Trail, hit Kate Sleeper Trail up to Rollins / Blueberry ledge trail to hit Whiteface, then backtracked, over the rest of the Kate Sleeper Trail over the tripyramids and down Sabbaday Brook Trail and walked the Kanc back to my car. Overall it was about a 17 mile hike with around 4,000ft of elevation / descent.

During the pandemic I was leaving trail and summit names out of many of my videos due to issues with massive overcrowding on the trail, as well as, issues in regards to what I would consider uneducated or irresponsible hiker behavior. The most notable of which was trash, and human waste / toilet paper I was finding directly on, or just off, trail. I kept some of the trail and location names in this video.If you are using this video for planning purposes, please use the trail responsibly and try to follow leave no trace principles. It only takes one person not doing so to ruin it for everyone. If you are a newer hiker please watch this video before heading out on trail: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ms6Uaqhl162tp3U.html Here is an article about the issue with trash and human waste specifically in the Whites www.nhpr.org/post/trouble-trails-forest-service-grapples-crowds-trash-and-human-waste#stream/0 Another article about Max Patch (an iconic part of the Appalachian Trail) and the issues occurring there www.citizen-times.com/story/news/local/2020/09/23/max-patch-residents-campers-creating-safety-hazards-mountain/5858936002/ Here you can learn about leave no trace (LNT) principles lnt.org/why/7-principles/ www.nps.gov/articles/leave-no-trace-seven-principles.htm

Hey Chris! As always…. Nice work, and thanks for taking us along with you during your adventures. I though that it was strange when you started your hike wear sandals… I’am thinking that’s different. But, you had 12 water crossings! Crazy!!! #MountainHouse - send Chris some fooood!

Chris, thank you so much for this video! Soundtrack was even beyond your usual high standards. After two and a half years the pandemic finally caught up with us (and hernia surgery when I recover) so we're not going ANYWHERE! Binging on all my favorite hikers instead.

I did a very similar loop many years ago with a friend of mine. Going through the Sleepers was crazy, thick with blowdowns. It took forever to navigate through I will never forget that

I've noticed where I took a pretty substantial time off from posting videos that KZfaq has pretty much decided to not put my latest videos on peoples front pages. Only real way people know a video is posted is if people are subscribed and see itin their subscriptions or have notifications turned on for all videos. The real glory side of pleasing the algorithm

Chris this was phenomenal!! Going up to film going down only to go back up to get camera and go back down!! And vice versa. Views were incredible. The view from that first peak reminded me of mt cabot. The eating dinner on trail 20 minutes or so before setting up for the night is a good way to minimize bear visits. Hey, i was wondering… i have a smart bottle that ive had airport water filler water in it for the last seven days. I took a sip of said water and it tastes like i grabbed it from the drips of a glacier in new zealand!! WTF!! I put any kind of water in a nalgene and I end up tasting the a little bit of the plastic after 15 minutes. Why is that? Is that the quality of the plastic or what. It’sweird gor sure. Take care Chris and thank you again for all your hard work!

Thanks Lisa! Ya I took off pretty much 2 months this summer. I kind of realized I had been hiking essentially non stop for every summer since 2016 and just decided to hang out locally and relax a bit this year. It was fantastic but glad to be waltzing around up here again!

You need to watch the weather when you do that trail. If it's going to rain the night you stay, I guess you don't go because the next day the water will be high again. It sure takes a bit of time to keep setting up the camera on the tripod for all those shots and then coming back to retrieve it. I think some people don't realize the time involved. Nice hike and video. John from MI

Ya back last year when I attempted it I knew the water would probably be high but figured eh whatever lets go and see but it was like REAL high. The 2nd crossing took me probably about 20 minutes alone to find a safe spot to get over. I think that even if I had made it up if I had come back down the Sabbaday brook trail it would have taken me forever. There are SOOO many crossings along the sabbaday brook trail too. Turning around then was very much the right decision haha
@RhodySeth

You can put together some fine backpacking treks in the Sandwich Wilderness. Sabbaday Brook Trail is a pain in the ass to go down - seems to go on forever. Another fine trip and video.

It really did, once you get to the that spot before the falls where the trail hops over water like 10 times its becomes interesting haha but yes very cool area to mess around trail / trip wise

Hey Chris big fan of your vids and style! I am heading up downes brook next weekend for a 2 nighter. My first night I want to camp close to the headwaters of downes brook ( the top). I am headed up whiteface the next day. I've read there are a few stealth sites up near the intersection of Kate sleeper. Looks like either you might have stopped at a few. I was hoping for a bit of advice as to where the best ones you saw are. There is no 200 foot rule in that wilderness area either. They encourage you to camp at already established sites so i was going to try for on on my first night. Thanks for the vids and any info.

We went two years ago. When Downes Brook connects with the Sleeper Trail there is a flat open space that I think may have been a former Wonalacet Outdoors Club shelter. You may want to check with them first if it still is o.k., but we camped there and got our water at the top of Downes Brook. Spent one day going to the Sleepers, the next day going to Whiteface and Passaconaway.
