Join me as I kayak deep into the Shoalhaven Gorge in Morton National Park near Kangaroo Valley on a 4 day expedition. Tallowa Dam and the Shoalhaven River is located only a short drive from Sydney, NSW It is said to be one of Australia's best rivers for a Kayak or a Canoe. Wild camping in a hammock and on the beach in this beautiful setting was incredible. I used a number of primitive fire lighting techniques such as a ferro rod and steel and also flint, quartz and steel. As always I enjoyed cooking some delicious camp fire cuisine accompanied with couple of tasty craft beers. It was a great trip to explore the river at my own pace and to hone some of my bushcraft skills.
If you have any questions about anything you saw in the video please leave a comment and I will do my best to answer you.
Thanks for watching.

Beautiful video Dan! Thanks for bringing us along. Glad to see you eat well out there too 👍. Stunning scenery... its always a bit of a gamble telling others about it, eh?... you want to share our gorgeous country but you don't want to have to dodge loads of others while you're out there. Not that the Shoalhaven is exactly a well kept secret. Ah well, you still got some great spots to set up camp and practice some low-impact bushcraft 👍

Thanks Amy. I try to keep the secret spots secret but this is a very well known spot. If it was open to motor boats it would be full all the time.

Beautifully put together film. It’s one of my favourite places down there, you’ve get to keep a good eye on the wildlife.I had a goanna take my food up a tree once and would not share it and had a boulder rumble down the hill one night. It can be quite an exciting place. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for watching. Yes it is such an incredible place. It was possibly one of the biggest possums I've seen. Lucky my Tucker bag was stowed safely. I did hear another boulder come crashing down on the second night too.

Always enjoy your videos, Dan. Loved this one with all of the fire starting tips too and once again, your bush tucker looked sensational. Appreciate how much effort goes into making your videos mate. Great job!

Thank you I really appreciate that. That would be the dream. I'd be making KZfaq videos all the time if they put food on the table. Feel free to share it around. Hopefully one day that will be a reality.

I was down there a month or 2 ago, such a beautiful spot! I Put in at Tallowa Dam and paddled up to Beehive Point to have lunch & check out the Sunken Forest. I had plans to get down there again but the biblical rains put a stop to that, can't wait to get back down for a weekend camp.

@@WakuahOutdoors i imagine some of the sites down the Shoalhaven end are probably gone, some of the Kangaroo River sites are up hill so they may be ok. I think they've closed the National Park again so might be a while before the revisit. BTW the guy with the cat (IG: gustheboatcat) kayaks all around Sydney, really nice guy.

Surprisingly roomy. It definitely was a bit more sluggish than usual. There was heaps of good firewood at the second camp site I packed the kayak with wood for the last night.

Thanks mate. I underestimated how much drag a kayak full of gear had. The water was too warm to make it cold but still good to crack a beer in the bush.
