New Brit Workshop

4 жыл бұрын

Although almost every shop is now closed there are still many operating online and Axminster is one of them. I recently placed an order with them and I describe that kit here along with two items that they donated to The New Brit Workshop. Keep safe everyone. I have had a number of request to put links to the various tools that I have been using.....

UJK Cam Lock Hold Down Clamp M8 (Pair) (106123) - bit.ly/2y2zn8a

We do love our "Peter Parfitt". There are unlimited video-makers on KZfaq; but Peter is among the VERY best. We are honored that he takes the time to make these brilliant videos that we can enjoy. Thank you Peter always. P.S. You know that I do not like ANY music in videos; UNLESS maybe a very short dab in the front or ending of the video, But I must say I could listen to the ending music of this video, for a long time. For whatever it's worth kind Sir. You do have a good taste for "good" music IMHO.

Amazing what a small length of t track and some cam clamps can do. Always found these ratchet style clamps to be quite expensive compared with other styles. I realise there's some extra complexity compared to say a threaded type but the extra cost still seems to me to be excessive.

Hi Peter another great video as per usual. Wondering if you can help, I’ve racked my van in such a way that on the right hand side has its own box section to store sheet goods (maybe 6-7 18mm 8x4’s for example. Now I’ve been scratching my head for a while as I want to utilise t-track at the top and bottom for some sort of sliding clamp mechanism so no matter how many sheets I can always store them perfectly straight. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Keep up the good work!
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, I assume your box section at the open door end and measured on the inside is just over 1220 mm high and about 200 mm wide. I suppose you could put some of the T track into the top and bottom horizontal pieces and use a pair of the cam clamps. I store my sheet materials in the workshop in a similar type of racking but do not bother to keep the sheets perfectly vertical. Is it just to stop it moving when you go around a corner? Peter
@ricos1497
@ricos1497 4 жыл бұрын
Why not just add a couple of wedges (with a gradual slope, not steep) into the far end of your box so that when you slide your material in, just slide it further into the box and as you push further in it wedges against the wedges, if you see what I mean! The more material, the less distance you push it in. Perhaps some sort of adjustable clamp at the front to hold it at its wedged distance so it doesn't come loose.
@richarddalton7085
@richarddalton7085 4 жыл бұрын
New Brit Workshop thanks for your reply Peter. Yes to the movement round corners and also as I don’t have a workshop, sometimes the sheets may be stored for a longer period of time as I work on them so need them to keep there flatness so being able to store them nice and straight would be the preferred way. I like the look of the cam clamps. Would you say a bit of maybe 2x1 PSE with a hole the size of the cam clamp bolt would work as a stopper top and bottom for me to slide and lock into place depending on sheet quantities? Trying to make my van work for me and enable me to be efficient while I don’t have a workshop. That’s to come in the future. Rich

your perception (now ameliorated) about Chinese manufactured goods being rubbish is a myth, yes they make rubbish because we ask them to produce rubbish, they are quite capable (and do) of making things to a very high quality. Its suppliers in this and other countries that ask them to make something for 50p and they of course say yes we can and you get what you pay for - rubbish!

Hi David, I said that 15 years ago I had a view that not all Chinese kit was of a high standard but I have now changed my mind. In my view there are plenty of examples of excellent Chinese engineering and I agree with you that it is still possible to find rubbish if you either look for it or ask something to be produced to a price.
