Today we're taking a look at an AR Build that looks exactly like one of mine, but isn't. The AW15 Mk5 from Wolfpack Armory has all my favorite parts and furniture on it, which I can only assume means Wolfpack has been spying on me for the last two years.

They missed the mark on “hop carbine” by putting on a full length handguard on it. Everyone knows Hop has a thing for exposed barrel like a 1920s man for exposed ankles.

Im a material scientist and mechanical engineer. The reason it is so hard to get to the bottom of the differences in barrel steel is that because, yes, you can look up the grade of steel, but what about the treatments, coatings, and such. That, is where it gets tricky and all of that greatly changes the modulus and hardness. So much of it is proprietary process, and so much of that is trade secret where one company doesnt want other companies learning their tricks that companies are very tricky with how they word things around their barrel steels and coatings. It leaves us, the consumer purposely in the dark about what a barrel is actually made out of, and what actually makes it better or worse than other choices and whats its strengths and weakness are.

@LyleH-13
@LyleH-13 3 ай бұрын
@xostler correct, a lot of these treatments use heat as part of the diffusion process whereas Nitiride is the proprietary name for a diffusion process where at a specific time and temperature nitrogen is diffused in the interstitial space of the crystalline structure. Long story short, nitride done properly heat treats the metal by its very nature.

Accuracy snobs claim clamp-style gas blocks are inherently more accurate as opposed to traditional set screw types because the clamping force is more uniform. They also claim when using set screw type gas blocks, ordinary set screws can affect accuracy according to how tight you tighten them. They even claim that using knurled set screws will throw off accuracy. When it comes to pinning, to them that's the worst because that affects barel harmonics, so they say.

@@Hoplopfheil I replaced the handguards, the selector lever (45deg ambi), charging handle (ambi), pistol grip (magpul), stock (magpul), mag release (ambi), and added a BAD lever and a custom 1-point sling attachment to my M4 in Afghanistan. Also ran a 3X zoom behind the EOTech and added a bipod. Many of us did. We also got our choice of Trijicon, Aimpoint M2, or EOTech (issued by the unit). We also had one thermal monocular per platoon that could be helmet mounted same as the NVG or mounted on a rifle and used with a red dot. We also had thermal scopes for all of our Mk19, M2, and M240B. We were an awesome unit. We just put everything back to stock config after the deployment was over. The guys in my unit were better armed at home than in the military. We brought our own gear, even mags and optics, on deployment with us. Highly decorated unit, 5 unit awards including 1 Presidential. And we were given gear that only SOCOM got before us, and we tested a lot of prototype equipment in combat as well. I describe my years of service as, getting struck by lightning twice (it just doesn't happen to most people, we got lucky). We had it good and and we had great success as a result.

This is very close to one of my builds.. I started with an FN CHF mid PSA rifle with std handguards. I ground down the FSB so that it fits under the rail; and I installed K2 grip, and a similar handguard.. basic 15" m-lok.. I think I'd probably rather have a 13" handguard instead, but it's still great. And between the CHF CH lined barrel and the double pinned FSB under the rail-- I would definitely consider it a "duty" setup. I forget which bolt and trigger is in it now.. I've swapped them around all my rifles so many times... I'd have to check

Needs a cerakoted buffer tube. Solid otherwise. I like flipping every part fde/od green. It’s easy to order that way to fit your builds.

Nice review. I'm interested in the other model that takes standard AK mags. Given the number of mags in 7.62x39 and cases of it on hand, that would be more interesting to me. Nice presentation. Always enjoy watching your content.

Excellent aesthetics, solid features, just wish they made it in a 14.5 p/w …well p/w with a comp since im in a ban state. I don’t think anyone besides Aero has ever done that though. But that’s also very particular to my state.

You and I seem to have similar taste in rifles. If I was to get this rifle, I can not think of anything to change on it. Put my favorite optic on it and...done. I could put in my favorite Hyperfire safety lever but frankly this short throw one is very similar to that anyway. OH, I know. I have kind of gotten away from having a foward assist, so I guess that is not totally perfect. Just so perfect I would not bother changing it.

I really like WPAs 45 cal pcc. Their ar47 also looks interesting. Since suppressor waits are so short now. You should get in contact with Griffin. I'm sure they would send you some stuff for review!

A chrome lined barrel is a plus, but dont let it be a deal breaker. Lots of guns that are famous for their reliability never came with chrome lined barrels. HK G3/91's, all of the inch pattern FAL's and some of the metric FAL's, early M70's, and even some of the early Mk-14 EBR's did not have chrome lined barrels. Chrome lining is a nice feature but not a be-all/end-all.

Honestly I’d say it’s a deal breaker if you intend on shooting a lot of corrosive ammo; a chrome lined barrel makes sense to me if you want an AK or SKS and have cases of the corrosive surplus ammo, otherwise if your shooting commercial ammo it’s more of a nice to have instead of a need to have.

Only 2:¹⁵ in and had to laugh. The shirt under the chest rig stole my attention. I'm sitting staring at it trying to figure out what Clan Tartan that is. Being Scottish is an odd affliction. Now, back to the video!
