Dude! I am an engineer. I loved your rant about gas issues and cold! You went into a deep dive into the insanity of the AR. There is an alternate way to reduce the gas, a gas tube with a smaller hole. The nice thing about the AR platform is the lack of training needed to be a gunsmith. There is one issue with the AR, that is the frustration finding parts that will work for your build.

Man this is giving me some really great ideas. This honestly seems like a really great style of build especially for shorties. Like, shorties with carbine length systems are what they are. They aren't horrible, but definitely not what you really want these days given what we and the military now know about what the most reliable and functional gas lengths are.

Ya, the Riflespeed gas block is pretty sweet, but getting a hand guard to work can be a real struggle. It sits taller the normal low pro blocks, so not all handguards will slip over it. And if it does, make sure there is enough room that the barrel stays free floating during firing.

I made a 16in rifle gas build similar to yours with a KAK Industry barrel, lo pro standard gas block, and a A2 stock with standard rifle buffer parts and haven't had any issues with it cycling with or without a suppressor with 5.56 ammo. No gas to the face and it runs stupid smooth. I have a LaRue MBT2S trigger in it and its very nice to shoot.

@@kilroy5166 Easier said than done. Not everyone wants a pricey Riflespeed that weighs 4x a standard gas block. The detent based ones like Superlative arms work really well, and as he said, are generally a set and forget, but yeah, periodically using the screw to ensure it doesn’t get locked up is good practice.

I got the same kak barrel and went with a centurion two peace quad rail handguard. Now my other 16" rifle length gas barrel I got an FN 18" had my gunsmith open up the gas port, cut and thread the barrel to 16" and attached the rest of the hardware to include triangle handguard. I used the H&R upper and lower receivers from PSA. It's my favorite AR to use for pretty much everything now.

So glad you got one of these. Been running one on a suppressed 300 BLK for awhile and it’s just fun. Only issue I’ve had is freezing up the plunger due to the pistol length gas system. Lubing it up once a while takes care of that issue. From 300 supers to subs to with or without suppressor it fits my build perfectly.

I'm running an empty buffer and a Geissele Super 42 spring with a AIM lightweight bolt. I have a 11.5" midlength faxon which is definitely in the dissipator category. I use fixed gas on it because like hop i dont like adj gas blocks. While I am sure it recoils more than a tuned gun would, with an H3 and sprinco red it still has considerably less recoil than my 10.5" carbine gas gun, and it will still work with cheap .223 reman loads. In fact it has never failed to function in any way, in temps from about 0f well into the high 90s. Also, hello Hop.

I've had one of these on a shorty .300 blk I built for a bit over a year at this point. I was really impressed, my goal was to make a super light gun that works reliably both suppressed and unsupressed, I was very close to accomplishing this. With super sonic .300blk it works great both suppressed and unsuppressed, with subsonics though it has occasional hickups when unsupressed.
@mysteryman33333
@mysteryman33333 5 ай бұрын
Do you really need to cycle subs unsuppressed though? The entire point of subs is shooting suppressed. With 300 BLK, I'd rather have a short barrel with pistol length gas system with a non-gaped gas port that can cycle subs suppressed but also isn't terribly over-gassed when shooting supers suppressed, with a standard gas block.
@death31313
@death31313 5 ай бұрын
@@mysteryman33333 nope, I sure don't and that's why I'm not too worried that it has occasional hickups shooting subs unsupressed. I really just used that as a measure of reliability with varying .300 blk loads aince even with supersonic .300 blk there are guns that are picky with ammo unsupressed. It's also really very pleasant to shoot even with supers supressed at least in comparison to something like a mk18.
