This is part of a collab with several different Chinese artists. That's the set recommended by the artist Zhao Long, as written in the box. So, that's just his artistic choice and style. I think there is a set with 8 different blue hues from the artist Gao Dong. Also, the reason for the larger pan is because it is made for the Chinese brush, which can be larger and flatter than usual. I hope it helps anyone interested. Ps: The artists that collaborated with the brand are: Liu Yongjian, Huang Youwei, Liu Yi, Chen Yongjin, Chen Liu, Zhou Gang, Zhao Long, Chen Shaocheng and Gao Dong. I'm sorry if I misspelled or missed any names. Overall, I think they all are amazing artists, with beautiful palettes and very different color arrangements. I think it is a great idea and very different from what we see in western brands.

@@arleebeanyeah, sure :) oh and by the way, that small plastic piece is not a scrapper. It is used to separate the compartments one from another. There is a space on the right side that fits the piece perfectly, just insert it there and pull the thing out. ♥

I love the other Paul Rubens sets that offer a complete primary mixing range, but I appreciate that they also offer additional "odd" color sets (like this and the pink palette version). This is a neat way to have some colors from their larger color catalog that hadn't made it into the balanced sets. Instead of calling it missing, or lacking colors, I may have called it unique or odd color selection. Just wish it was labeled that way lol :)

Missing colour: ultramarine and phthalo blue?

Between the opera pink and red, there's no real magenta either (I would have loved a PV19). However, I'd hate to discourage companies from making unique sets that offer their other colors from a massive catalog. This set has a beautiful turquoise deep (cobalt pg26), impossible to mix, and rarely in a standard set. It's also got a couple rare green earths and a shadow purple uncommon outside of brands like Daniel Smith. They have several full complete mixing sets already, so I appreciate the ability to collect their harder to find colors. BUT they should have labeled it "odd" or "unusual" color selection though, so people know not to expect cmyk that is in just about every other set out there :)

The other set of tubes is labeled as the floral set. It doesn't come with black.

The 24 set that matches the pan set for refills has all the basic color mixing and a coal black, you can find it on amazon next to the floral tube set, it comes in a blue plain box instead at smile.amazon.com/dp/B07RFL66RG/ref=twister_B07RKW49CC?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

Stephanie Corral apparently this is one of many collaborative sets the company made with different artists, so this set in particular is made of colours one of the artist uses in his style

I literally just upgraded my Sakura Koi 24 color travel palette with the Paul Rubens floral set a couple days ago! I haven't gotten to play with it much yet, but oh wow is it an upgrade! I just keep looking at my swatch card and gushing over how vibrant they are!

The big wells remind me a little of the large pans the gansai paints come in - paints that also have a lot of white mixed in. Also, we could call it palleting? Seems fair. :)

How did you know gansai paints have a lot of white mixed in? There is no such pigment info that indicates so. There is only two colors probably have white in it, other than that claiming such nonsense sounds pretty irresponsible about something obviously you have no actual experience.

You could probably make a pretty deep dark with one of the reds with the turquoise. I love mixing warm reds with pthalo turquoise to make lovely moody and dark purplish colours it makes for a good skin shadow shade.

That's what I was thinking. With that teal, that bright pinky-red, and the yellow you could probably mix a lot of colors similar to if you had a set of cmy.

Who needs another balanced watercolor set? Not me. I have several (many, full set syndrome) I’m interested in this palette specifically for the interesting colors, colors that don’t come is the usual 12, 24, or 36 set.

I believe this is the "Flower/Botanical" set, I've seen it on Paul Ruben's Taobao official store, I got the half pan version of this set, but it's not in my hands yet! This theme explains the lack of standard blue. Seems like they have lots of sets with colours selected by chinese watercolour artists, which looks interesting.

😁👍 *The small plastic piece fits in the rectangular space to the right side of the paint well part, and lifts it out so you can easily clean it as well as have another mixing area underneath.*

Congrats on 100k!! I have the other set that you mentioned in the video and it is MUCH more well balanced. This set seems to have a ton of convenience colors compared to the other, which is almost identical to their 24 pan set in the pink box, and from my understanding they are the exact same paints. Thank you for sharing!!

Can you please clarify what you mean by '24 pan set in the pink box' because I have one such (although they are half-pans) and blues there are normal, and I don't have any cerulean or teal.

Hidden Shadow they only have 1 24 pan set (yes half pans) and it’s the exact same colors as the OTHER tube set she mentions, not the one shown. Unfortunetely none of their sets have unique branding.

Hidden Shadow They do technically have unique branding but it’s not translated into English. Like these big tube sets are actually palettes made in collaboration with various Chinese watercolor artists. That’s why some of them don’t have certain classic colors since it’s just paints that the artists use the most.

I appreciate your diplomatic approach to your reviews. You are really good about being thoughtful in your expressions of like or dislike of a product and you are great about including why you feel the way you do. When I was starting out in oils, there were many brands I didn't try because everyone said they were horrible. Only to find out much later I actually liked to work with them. There were also brands I wasn't super loving, but used them and fought with them forever because they were, "the best." So thank you for being sensitive to that. As always, excellent video!

Seeing you use a cobalt teal-like color for your main blue reminded me of the Qor High Chroma set. Cobalt teal being the only blue, and having to mix in purple to get darker hues... it's a very similar struggle. I love that palette and was wondering if you could buy it separately, but I think it might be too big for my cramped and cluttered workspace. Both of your paintings turned out lovely, and the neutralized skin tones from mixing the reds and teal gives these paintings a different sort of ambience from the rest of your work, which generally seems more colorful. Congratulations on 100k subscribers, I'm so happy for you :)

Yes I think sometimes you need to play with the colours first to be able to get your mind set right how to use them..there is actually quite a large difference between one and two painting ..the second being much less thought about more like as you said using what you had and you relaxed more into it...It is strange though as most sets usually at least contain the standard primary colours..but you did a great job of both ..I have a twelve pan set coming so I am looking forward to trying mine ,they have the primaries in I checked lol 😀

You could do a really fun colonial palette or muted palette for quick sketches though from the look of it, it reminds me somewhat of a gansai tambi however im not sure as I dont own those, the wells are really awesome though.

No ultramarine! I have the "Pretty Excellent" pan set which I am quite sure is made by the same company. Had a mixup between the color chart that comes with it and the chart they provide on wc paper for you to swatch, the preprinted names were not the same as the color chart. But not a bad paint for the price.

Could the plastic piece be used to remove the pallet tray? Theres a thin rectangle indent/space on the right side of pallet near where the plastic piece is placed.

That plastic thingy has a slot on the side it slips into to lift the pan if you have paint in every slot so you don't paint your fingers to lift it out.

It needs an Ultramarine. As it is it looks more like a gouache palette.

As you were putting them on the palette, I was wondering where the true blues were, like phtalo and ultramarine! This set reminds me of the Prima Marketing sets... very pretty, but not necessarily the best if you're used to using "the basics." (The colors ARE really pretty though!)

As a big fan of their glitter paint set i wondered if i should try their tube paint as well. But with 6 different options it is quite overwhelming to choose. So your review is really helpful (i wish someone would go wild and would do a big showdown of all 6 sets 😂). The fact that the color selection is a little unusual is a big plus for me, as i don‘t paint real life and have quite a range of standard pan sets. Update: I managed to find both palettes, blue and pink, filled with blobs of colors for cheap on ebay marketplace. So here are my thoughts about it: 1. Palettes are nice, like the very similar ones by Mijello 2. The colors that contain white have quite a gouache feeling to them 3. Browns and neutrals are weak, like there is more fillers or such 4. Blues are quite similar (had 8 blobs to test) 5. Other colors where pretty nice when compared to Schmincke, Sennelier and Qor blobs, they have a nice flow Price in Germany is about 2 Euro the tube, which is about the same range like Van Gogh or White nights, but these are easy to find open stock. The complete set with palette is 70 Euro on german Amazon which might be better to invest in higher quality brands or paint to can buy open stock.

This palette choice seems to be very japonesque, i.e. not a western style palette at all, and maybe not designed for mixing but rather for using different shades by dilution. Your suggestion that it is like the eastern paints is spot on. The result is lovely though, I think it worked beautifully. I have agree with you on the plastic palette what a great amount of space, for people working on a larger scale it is great.

I don't know why, but that palette is calling to me... I looked for it on amazon with no luck. But you can find it in blue and pink on aliexpress for around $13! I am going to get one ASAP.

Are you sure about darks. I was recommended to mix pastel lavander with black to make it more opaque and not see through.

Add thelo blue to the empty spot on the bottom. It's your pallet, do what you need tp.

I really don't understand this thing about the missing blue, as on the Amazon page is says that this set has an ultramarine and a cobalt?! Is that a mistake?

They give you cyan to mix your blue They also give megentaish colour (opera) and yellow

The color that is closest to cyan actually granulates a lot, so it's not the best for mixing deep, reliable blues with a consistent texture. The opera is really nice, but not the most versatile shade. I agree that the yellows are great though! The distributor has said that this is an "earth tones" set, and I do like that the range is unique.

I've been looking for the Paul Rubens set, but it's not easy to get, here in Belgium. (Not even known) . I don't understand why big companies don't have them in their range, like Jackons or Gerstaecker or... Then there was this question I wanted to ask: do you know Rublev watercolor? They are made in the USA. www.naturalpigments.com/artist-materials/oil-watercolor-paint-rublev/ These are there watercolors: www.naturalpigments.eu/watercolor/paints.html?limit=all Just wondering... because almost nothing to find about these... and they are artist grade monopigment, natural pigment etc... Keep on doing what you do. I love your attitude, like when you stick your finger in the paint, or the intros of your vids :) I'm lousy when it comes to writing reactions on people's youtube video's, but I've been following your channel since Inktober last year, when I found a bunch of wonderful KZfaqrs, like you, Denise Soden, Mind of Watercolor, Eve Bolt, Oto Kano, Meow Meow Kapow etc. Every time I'm always looking forward something to learn from people like you (and them). And shame on me: I don't very often leave a respons. Sorry :(

the plastic is for mixing paste with water. instead of using brush hair which just gets clogged up with the paste and then like 80% goes into the wash pail. A very effective way to mix your paint. I use a spatula to do that. Its good they provide it for the palette.
