In 1959, Omega introduced a new line of non-date Constellations into the market under reference 14381/14382, known today as the transitional Constellation between the 1950s and the 1960s. That's because it still has a case design similar to those from the 1950s, but it takes a movement that is better known and used throughout the 1960s. Watch this video to learn something unique about this Constellation.

I recently acquired a very rare variant of the 14381-1-SC. In addition to the "Officially Certified" dial text, it has rhodium plated solid white gold hour markers and a special factory order luminous package that has radium lume dots on the 1,2,4,5,7,8,10 and 11 markers. The hands are lumed as well. This model also contains one of the 20,000 caliber 551 movements in the 17,000,000 serial range that achieved “especially good results” in COSC lab testing. Rounding out this variant was a special low profile crystal and a decagonal crown. I've only seen a few examples of this version in several decades of collecting vintage Omegas.

Very nice! I know which dial variation you are referring to and some collectors think they are not original, when they clearly are original but just rare. I own two different one, a 14381 like your and a 2852 (older version). There are a handful of redial too, but usually redial will have larger luminous dots and the dial refinisher usually apply luminous dots to the 12, 3, 6 and 9 as well. Take good care of your piece, they are not common to come by. Both of mine are in full steel cases.

@@TimelessHistoryChannel Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, the hour hand on mine was replaced at some time before I acquired it. As you know, this particular version has an hour hand that has a larger lume area than the Dauphine style hands that you normally see on this reference. My example has the "standard" Dauphine hand with a smaller area for lume. Any idea whether Omega still makes the original style hand that came with this version? I expect that the answer is probably not. I hope to be able to eventually find a 14381 parts watch from which to get the correct hour hand, but these are so rare that I doubt that I'll be able to find one.

Unfortunately, the only way to obtain a new set of correct hands is to take them off another watch with poorly aged dial (maybe cheap to buy) or if you're lucky you might find a watch collector with a spare set to sell.

did 14381 "officially certified" also came in crosshair dial, gold bar indices, and stainless case combination?

Yes, there are many Constellation dials with gold indexes in a full steel case.

I have a 1956 Omega constellation gold case and the script is exactly the same as the later model you're showing here. It doesn't have a pie pan dial.

@@TheClockwise770 You're welcome. It's easier to say whether the dial is original or refinished if I can see it. There are also a handful of different dial prints, so do not always follow the "MOY" rule as well.
