I could look at a one or two man Bucky tooth for 6 or 5 seconds before my hands cramp up to the point that I couldn't pick my nose. I grew up in southern Missouri on a farm that was entirely fenced with split posts. A simple process. You fell a tree with ax and saw. Cut to necessary length with a saw. Split each length with ax and wedge with sledge. Sharpen each post with ax. Dig each post hole with bar and clamshell. Our bar was a sharpened model T axle. It was of great importance as each cubic foot had more rock than dirt. Stand up in the pickup bed to drive the posts. In a straight line if you please. Then you only had to run and stretch the wire and hammer in the staples. I hope you have enjoyed reading this. I will be in hot soaks for the next two weeks and that won't begin to mitigate the nightmares. Ah, the good old days. No chainsaws. No metal posts. It was difficult to avoid being in shape.

You have my sympathies Chris, that looked like hard work. Your comment at the end about a foot powered bandsaw made me think though... have you ever seen any foot powered saws? I was thinking that a reciprocating design powered by a treadle might be possible, a bit like the old saws in those water wheel powered sawmills but on a smaller scale.

Hi Chris, nice job and perseverance on this cut, it made my arms tired just watching! And what kind of wood is that? the reason I ask is because it looks like your saw is 4 teeth and a raker which in my understanding is for soft wood such as pine, 2 teeth and a raker is for hard woods, I don't know if it would have made a difference or not but you may want to check that out, Am really enjoying the videos, please keep them coming!

I've done exactly that kind of cut on a big ol cottonwood that was maybe slightly bigger. It was almost as hard to do. I just couldn't get a straight cut with my big cross cut saw. Do you think it has to do with how it's sharpened? Much a like a chainsaw will curve if it's not sharpened symmetrically? I thought about building a pendulum type device that you could slowly lower as you cut. Don't know if it would work but might keep your cut straight?

Me too! Hopefully this year we will have more snow than before (we don't have that much snow anymore in France, at least where I live)

I'm thinking two men on that two man saw would've allowed the saw to do the work. That's my thinking on the pinch factor? Heart breaking when that happens. I think we tend to work more alone these days than when saws like that one were the only option. Friends with like minds are handy to have.
