Sorry, but Patti owns this song. She took it to another level. You notice all the other singers are copying Patti's version. Patti didn't just sing about over the rainbow she took us there. And this wasn't even her best version of it. The live version in New York is the best.

One of all time favorite runs (and my favorite Mariah performance). The downward then upward run at Flyyyyyyauaiaihy was such an original choice (GENIUS) and so guttural and raw. That was a moment of PURE SOUL that gets me every time!

A wonderful distorted song to see who screams the most, Beyoncé and Mariah Carey well, the only one who makes a version without distorting it is Celine Dion. The rest is very powerful but even unpleasant to the ear when the song is wonderful.

@@odumosuolusegun2781 I see where you’re coming from because by the late 90s, Mariah’s ease in her upper belting range had diminished significantly, so the others definitely could do a lot more higher up and with more power. But in my humble opinion, Mariah easily compensated by delivering the most original rendition of that song (and not just copying Patti’s version in her tribute). I especially love the run at “blue birds flyyyyyaiaiaiai” which was by no means incredibly high belting like the others, but was so soulful, raw, and guttural. I play that part back and really believe it was one of those instinctual channeling of soul that just came out of her in the moment, and to me, was the highlight of the performance (not even the climax at the end). And obviously this is subjective, but her full, husky tone with that slight rasp is just *chef’s kiss* I just wish it came with her belting range when her tone was perfectly clear.

Katrina Valarde killed it! I took it back three times to hear that falsetto, you may want to listen to her again. After Katrina was Patti LaBelle. I could barely hear Jona Viray, sound wasn’t clear.
