Knight Crime, Love your vids, man! I really align with a lot of your tastes & takes on music... except the Smiths/Radiohead comparison.... That's just blatant blasphemy!! But then, the Bends is one of my top 10 of all time & is it's own supreme entity 😇 But, to the main reason I wanted to comment... You seem to have an affinity for dark themed music & so I'm wondering if you're familiar with Nick Cave? He has a huge back catalogue & his most recent works after his son died are too haunting & sad for me to listen to much but his 80s-90s work had always been on the seedy, sinister side of the human character. The Murder Ballads album is full of just what the title says. Killer tracks Man!! 😁 This man's a brilliant songsmith/lyricist/poet & captures characters & stories so well. A Modernday Bard Hope you can find time to check it out if he's new to you & it grabs you like he did me. Cheers🤘✌️

Maynard doesn't seem to have had experienced sexual abuse, but it's been theorized that someone else in the band had. Honestly, if you actually start asking, more men have experienced sexual abuse than you'd expect. But, the lyrics also imply being forced into religious views. "Hands bound, head down, eyes closed, throat wide open" can imply being tied up an sexually assaulted, but also implies being made to pray. "My lamb and martyr". The nature of the song goes on to reveal its absolutely sexual abuse in the bridge, but, much like many of Tool's songs, there's a double meaning outside the expressed lyrics. Many of their songs dealing with sexual topics do this, like 4° and Stinkfist. They're definitely about anal sex and fisting, respectively, but are also about exploring your unexpressed interests and becoming desensitized to reality, respectively. Prison Sex is about child sexual abuse making one become an abuser in adulthood, but is also about having religious beliefs forced on a child who in turn pushes these beliefs on others. This doubly ties into sexual abuse in organized religion, which wasn't as well publicized at the time. We can absolutely see a distaste with organized religion throughout Tool and A Perfect Circle's lyrics, which is probably why it's so easy to relate the toe topics. And, personally, as someone sexually abused and forced into religion, both leave pretty permanent scars on the psyche.

Something important to mention about Suffer Little Children after it gained a lot of controversy, Morrissey met with some relatives of the Moors murders victims. He apparently explained to them his intention behind the song, and the relatives accepted his band’s reflection on the murders as sincere. Kinda surprising that Morrissey, who’s notorious for making crazy statements, could come off so respectfully, but it’s good to know he could at least explain and make sure the victims’ families were okay with his song.

one song i don’t see people talk about when it comes to disturbing songs is ‘asking for it’ by hole. courtney love has discussed that she wrote the song after she stage dived at one of their concerts and the audience began to strip her completely naked, even sticking their fingers in her. she said she didn’t even remember it until seeing a picture someone took of the night :((

Actually, Morrissey later became friends with Lesley Ann Downeys mother later in her life. The reason for the song existing at all is due to the murders having an effect on Morrissey, he would have been very young and vulnerable in Manchester at the time. The song gets a bad rap but it's beautiful honestly

If you ever make a part 3, one song I'd like to see is Mein Teil by Rammstein. It's about 2 men (Armin Meiwes and Bernd Jürgen) who met on a cannibal Cafe website. Armin always wanted to eat someone and Bernd dreamed of being eaten. Not sure if KZfaq would let me describe it in more detail but I recommend looking into it and listening to the song, it's an absolute banger even if it's dark Also gotta say you have great taste in music 👌

Speaking of disturbing German music, I’d totally recommend the album Zeichnugen des Patienten O.T. by Einstrüzende Neubauten. It’s based on the schizophrenic artist Oswald Tschirtner who spent most of his life in a mental hospital. IOWA off of IOWA by SLIPKNOT is literally about "spending time" with a corpse. I don't even think anything is more this than that.
@Anonymous_Identity246
@Anonymous_Identity246 Жыл бұрын
I feel the thing is tho, The songs here either 1: Are about tragic, real events or 2: About dark or disturbing personal experiences of people in the band. But Iowa’s title track is more drunk Corey yelling about weird and fucked up shit. However on those first two albums they did have a lot of personal tracks on those first two albums Eyeless was written by Corey about abandonment, Scissors was written by Joey (R.I.P) about self harm and suicidal thoughts and later in the song Corey stated singing about addiction, Skin ticket was written by Cory about his experience living in rural Iowa, and probably worst of all, metabolic witch Cory wrote about when he was assaulted as a child. And if you think “spending time” with a corpse is bad, read the lyrics to almost any Death metal song….

gotta throw a personal one in from my favorite band ever Ween - Mourning Glory, it's legitmately upsetting and disorienting to listen to no matter how many times you hear it. It's just layers of guitar feedback and distorted melodies with a super blown out fuzzy drum machine and vocals that go in and out of coherency. The song is vaguely about drugs, which they were on a lot of making that album and the previous one, and I think specifically it's about a really harrowing bad trip. The lyrics start out like a really weird nursery rhyme about three little pumpkins going into the woods but throughout it kind of gets more unhinged until the end which is just growing feedback and screaming "GET OUT OF THE WOODS" and "IT'S ONLY THE BEGINNING" over and over, before he kinda breaks the fourth wall and says "stop the tape". It's a crazy experience to listen to, highly recommend. The crazy thing is that this was on their first major label record and while a lot of the other songs are really weird, they're all pretty humorous and self aware and in the very unique style of psychedelic pop rock that only Ween has ever managed to create. Throwing an insane, creepy noise track on it is just a crazy decision. Then they made Ocean Man 5 years later

I feel like they’ve faded into obscurity in the last 15 or 20 years and don’t get the love that they deserve. Their earlier music, especially the work that included Richey before he disappeared, deserves so much more recognition.

My personal favorite disturbing song is "Air Conditioned Nightmare" by Mr. Bungle. If a part 3 happens I’m gonna recommend “Man Wearing A Helmet” by Bedwetter/Lil Ugly Mane. To this day it hasn’t been confirmed if it’s a true story or not, but considering how personal the album it’s on is, I think he’s telling people about something that actually happened to him when he was a kid. “Maybe he can leave if he promise not to tattle The trunk wasn't Eden but he knew he was the apple Streetlights flooded as the trunk popped open Hoping for a relief or a reason he was chosen Lurking was a silhouette with unfamiliar hands Now he's a shaking mess, carried 'cause he couldn't stand” Oh God. The details of the kidnapping are very vivid, down to the bluish television glow he saw in the dark cellar his kidnapper carried him down to. You can even hear his voice start to give out like he’s holding back bursting into tears when he says “all this time passed, I’m still scared that I’m there still.” It’s one of the most disturbing rap songs I’ve ever heard

These songs I found have some creepy backstories to them, but I haven't seen them on these kinds of lists before: 1. Diane by Husker Du - this psychotic rant is about a waitress that was a friend of the band. She was hunted by a stalker and then brutally murdered by him in a time where staking a person was legal. 2. I Desire by Devo - it's a rather cute, catchy synth pop tune by the band. However, don't be fooled. The lyrics were actually written by John Hinkley Jr. shortly before he made his assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan.

I really, really recommend Blur’s Beetlebum. When it came out, everyone thought it was a devastating love song, seeing as the lead singer was the 90’s British “it” boy. And in some ways it was, but not to another person. It was a call for help from the frontman, detailing his struggles with heroin and how it became a weapon for his mind. It’s a really good song, and the obscure lyrics really leave your mind to wonder.

Just found this channel and this is the very first video I’ve seen. So impressed that I just became the newest subscriber. This video is AbsoFUCKinglutely awesome! Love the way all the poignant facts are shared about each song, each band and real life inspiration. Your narration is spot on! The choice of lyrics for each song, choice of photos or video clips, along with album/band/song recommendations are all simply brilliant! Thank you! As I’m now in my early 40’s and was blessed to grow up at a time when many of these bands were releasing these albums and songs I can easily think of many more songs with disturbing back stories. But definitely need to watch the first video before making recommendations so not to mention what was already covered. ❤️ from Shannon in Canada 🇨🇦

Deftones poster? Noice. I have one (actually 2) There are two slipknot songs I think about when I see these lists, Diluted and Metabolic Diluted is about Corey Taylor’s experience being homeless, and it’s not in the song but he broke down after recording it. Also Metabolic is even worse, It’s about when Corey was molested as a child at 10 years old. 515 as an honorable mention, It’s audio of the DJ (Sid Wilson) having a mental breakdown because he lost his grandpa.

I don't know if you'll follow this series, but if you do you should look Xiu Xiu up. There's two of their more famous songs that deal with very dark subjects: Sad Pony Guerrilla Girl is about a girl who's seeing a married woman (that the singer Jamie Stewart used to be neighbors with) and being forced to keep the relationship a secret (going the lengths of dressing up as a man). There's a bit in the song where you can hear slapping sounds and they simbolize the physical violence she went through. Also I Luv The Valley OH!, which is about sewerslide. JS's father took his life and the song basically details his experience dealing with his father's decaying mental health, and the way death hangs over his family. I love Xiu Xiu, sorry for the long comment (and possibly broken English)

I think you should check out Acid Bath. They were a sludgecore metal. Dax Riggs lyrics are dark. I recommend Dead Girl, Cassie eats cockroaches, sample Clockwork Orange, Scream of the Butterfly just to name a few. They had 2 studio albums and an re-release of their demo. Dax went on to be in Goatwhore and Agents of Oblivion after.

thought this because of your previous video, but a nu metal band kinda lost to time now called otep made a song called "jonestown tea" and its prolly one of the most unsettling songs I've ever heard, its very similar to daddy in how it paints a very vivid picture, also nobody knows who shes singing about, but the speculation is that its about her own experiences of abuse, but nobody knows for sure because theres literally no information of her childhood or most of her past. This snippet tells you all you need to know: "No daddy don't! Leave me alone! No I don't want to be free! So take your d*k out of me! Please take your d*k out of me!" Other one is No Has Never Had Three Letters by The Kodan Armada a very obscure hardcore punk band, this is the leadsinger describing how powerless he felt while his sister was abused by their dad "It never ends, this brutal cycle. Please take her tears away, please make her whole again"

Speaking of nu-metal songs about THAT, slipknot’s “metabolic” It’s not as descriptive as DADDY TAKE YOUR D*CK OUT OF ME, but still tragic. He wasn’t assaulted by a family member, but when he was 10 A neighbor’s kid took away his innocence. This is shown as in the lines “I’m in so much pain, I have every F*cking right to hate you, I can’t take it!” Repetitions of “I’m always ready to die but you’re killing me”, and even straight up “I see you f*cking me”

A lot of Emilie Autumn's songs have dark themes and backstories. One of them is Gothic Lolita, which is about her experiences with CSA. Many of her other songs deal with her experiences with bipolar disorder, suicide attempts, and institutionalization. Another I can think of is Snow White Queen by Evanescence. It's about Amy Lee's experience with a stalker. The song is quite haunting
