Blaze Foley was a great as was Townes Van Zant. I was fortunate enough to see them and John Prine several times in Austin during the early 80's. It was a great time to be in Austin.

@@joycemcfee1829 I was lucky enough to win Prine tix from a radio station back in 2012. Caller #7 (I was caller 1-2-3-4-5 and 7). This was right after my wife had our first kid, and was our first date night in a year. I’ve been going to concerts for nearly 30 years at this point, and he was as good as I’ve ever seen. I’ll always be thankful I got to spend those 2.5 hours in the presence of Greatness. We lost a songwriting genius with His passing from Covid. RIP John!

I’m a self proclaimed John Prine Junky. I’m 58 now and saw him over 20 times. He just came out, owned the stage and just give it his all. Oh Boy don’t I miss him….

The whole verse that starts with "I’m tired of runnin' round…" must be when John Prine fell off his chair in amazement. Blaze gives us about five options for dodging the hard realities that all we face in life. One of the finest verses ever written by anyone.

I grew up in the sixties and seventies. I have been listening to John since the late seventies. I have been to see him in concert four times! More than any other person or group. I have seen the Stones twice, once in Europe and once in the States. And I saw Journey twice, and a whole bunch of other concerts but John is the man I saw more and wanted to see again. When he died I cried like my brother had died! When John sang or even told you a story, he was showing you the human being in all of us.

I went to Blazes grave a few years ago and I poured a beer on it. My wife didn't know why we were there but she was there and she gave me the beer. Texas music never dies !! As a chicano I didn't think I could jam this but Blazes soul was universal. I am a fan until I'm in the grave

I find it odd that he changed the words of one of the best lines of the original. “Try to hide my sorrow from the people I meet” to “sing songs to the people I meet” seems like a weird rewrite? Otherwise it’s a great cover

Going to start talking when I know what to say. That’s my favorite line. How many talk just to hear themselves or trying to convince me or themselves that they really know something. Just really has some truth there. If you don’t have anything relevant to add to a conversation maybe just be quiet and listen

I absolutely love John Prine, but I think the song is weaker for the lyric change he made. "Try to hide my sorrow from the people I meet" to "Sing my song for the people I meet" I think really changes the song for the worse. Now, I first heard this song from Prine's cover so I won't complain too much, but I do think Blaze's version is better, but it's the difference between a solid A and an A+
