Sonic EYX is a Sonic creepypasta horror game that was released just 2 months ago for Luigikid’s EXE challenge. It may not seem like much at first glance, but after experiencing the intro alone you’ll come to understand that this isn’t just any EXE game.

Just like to point out a flaw in the script. At 12:28 , you said that Ray's picture isn't broken when it's actually Amy's Edit: it's easier to see this if you turn up your brightness

I love the part with normal Sonic. The sunset, the grass and dirt, Sonics own sprites. It just feels so... refreshing, and nostalgic. And the music. Oh, the music. It's sounds like standing outside, under a tree, as wind blows and the grass still has dew on it.

My only real problem with a lot of EXE games is that, no matter how hard they seem to try and do the Sonic.EXE formula right, they always end up falling to the same tropes. They'll change things up, sure, but every last one of these just ends up being a "wait for the jumpscare" simulator. It'd be nice to see one that doesn't use jumpscares to scare the player. One that actually lets the game itself be scary, rather than rely on a burst of adrenaline.

I actually have a concept for an EXE game, like, imagine the demon or whatever inside the game is giving you a chance to stand for yourself, so you have to go through all stages, defeat robots, save the day, just like a normal Sonic game right? Except the demon keeps pushing you to a corner more and more until the boss fights and stages are eerie, you have to fight cursed enemies and bosses. I'm still drawing the concept art for the game and stuff, it's still on paper and i'd love to make this a reality. as for the atmosphere, just get a normal sonic game like Mania until the eerie parts, the eerie parts would be kinda like Metroid Fusion with a spoonful of Source games' atmosphere

I don't think calling it a shitty concept is a fair statement. I would say it's more oversaturated. Sonic.exe is a historical point when it comes to internet horror and though horror has evolved to the point where we look back on it now and cringe we have to step back and realize it was a stepping stone and a first of its kind during its time.

Someone needs to make an EXE type game that actually has some subtly. No monster until you're *deep* into the game. No foreboding warnings, no blood, no gore, no scares at first. Just an odd, disconcerting feeling. You know something is wrong, but you can't figure out what. Eventually though, the scares begin, but there's no jumpscares, or images flashing on screen, just very very subtle things. A sprite that looks wrong, your character looking directly at you with a different expression than usual. Just subtle things like that at first. By the end of the game though, you could completely jump into spooky territory, but it would be so much more effective if it were handled with more subtly.

Ok so I'm late but eyx did do this for the most part minus the one Jumpscare and warnings just switch the order and its that. But claiming it has no subtlety because of a couple tropes that come up once is just extreme. If you want something that does this though there is a Mario 64 rom hack that will give you what you want and it's on this channel today.

No I think Ultra has a point. This game is much better made than most Sonic.exe reimagining's but it also has a lot of in your face moments, even if they aren't straight up "jumpscares". I feel like it could've spent more time on buildup and added these things in over time.

I think this game is good, but I also agree with what your saying. I love it when games build up to the horror. This game kiiinda did that, but it didn't last long, and you already knew what the monster was before the game started due to the starting screen, which ruined the subtlety to me. Not to say it was bad, cause I don't think it was. But yeah, having the player sink to a comfortable state, just playing a game, having small things pop up out of the corner of your eye, the smallest of out of place textures, models, that would take a second glance to notice, and maybe small skips in the music to start off with would be a perfect slide into the real horror. As the levels contine those smalls errors in continuity getting easier to spot and things go missing, and the monster ever so slightly letting parts of themself being revealed to the player would leave a distressing feeling in the player. Just constantly waiting when it all comes crashing down. That's good horror to me

Sonic.exe was a product of its time I think. The black dripping eyes with red dots and HiPERREaLiStIC bLoOD was a whole internet phase for a solid 2 years. Luna.exe is another example of that phenomena. Sonic.EXY verges on a more recent aesthetic for horror - the Mandela Catalogue, Walten Files sort of style - while keeping the very same mechanics. Maybe at the time it would not get as much of a reaction, specially considering the demographic was much younger and probably lacked some innate sense of uncanny valley-ness.

What I love about EYX is that we don't truly know what this creature is, nor it's motivations. It's out to kill the characters in the game, but most importantly, it's aware of the fourth wall, and it will do anything to get close to it. Unlike Sonic.exe, EYX certainly uses it's fourth-wall breaking abilities properly. The Crystal Lake scene, while a beautiful level, was definitely handled properly; it gives you a breather, then painfully reminds you that this is still a horror game. also ngl, I thought the creature itself was supposed to poke fun at the fact that Sonic doesn't appear to have anything separating his pupils in his official design at first.

I could honestly see it as Sonoc being possessed by the demon due to hatred of failing, dying, and restarting. He wants it to stop, they all want it to stop. But it never happens

*Paragraph* Sonic.exe feels like we are just watching Sonic doing murd3rs for some reason. But Sonic.eyx feels like a foreign entity trying to disguise itself as Sonic and is not just coming for the characters, but is coming for *YOU*. the “saying the computers/players name” on EXE was way underwhelming,it feels like he’s just addressing you but EYX feels like it wants you,and it’s coming for you.Think it also has to do with Sonic.eyx having more exaggerated uncanny valley traits. EXE with the blacked out eyes still feels like Sonic just with a eye problem EYX feels scary cause it have features that are so inhuman and impossible (One large eye,Limbs that drag on the ground, the empty mouth, the large teeth smile, and the large height) it activates our brain to perceive it as a threat

Speaking of which, I'm gonna guess some of the unrevealed characters for this fangame whose portraits are currently question marks are Sally, Cream, Metal Sonic (although he's been seen in the background so far), and maybe a few Classic characters (like Fang and Honey).

I feel that this game symbolizes the endless amount of creepypasta games and that, in the end, it's just watching characters suffer for the sake of entertainment. Characters are shown begging for YOU to stop, not the latest demon. Characters are also shown coming back after death, as if it's a different route in other high quality exe games. Lastly, there's Knuckles's questions and the theme of characters staring at you. This game actively asks if creepypastas are really a good thing and if it's morally justified to endlessly watch fictional characters suffer for our amusement. After all, they weren't the ones who asked for this pain, it was you. Even Sonic.EYX seems to have something against the player with his frequent 4th wall breaks and manipulation. He's giving the player what they want, sure, but it seems that every kill gives him more strength. If you keep playing, he's going to give you a taste of what these characters have been suffering for over a decade.

5:33 In most of the Ray section, the stuff at the top, like the score, time, and rings, change to say things like “sonic stop please”, “somebody help me”, or “player save me” which I think is really clever and well done! Also suggests that Ray is aware of the player.

My absolute favorite part is where the game attempts to physically look at you if you have a webcam plugged in, makes me curious if there's ever going to be a possible outcome where you can interact with the monster to the point that you can speak to it if the game detects a microphone in use.

Things i've noticed in the footage that I feel that should get more attention: When Ray is running, the Score, Rings, and time will change to "Sonic, Stop, Please." When sonic is about to murder Ray, these turn into; "Somebody help me, player save me." Ray's face appears when EYX starts doing nasty shit, wanting to see you and all that, to the left of the rapidly corrupting sonic Right before eggman get's scrambled, you can see the entity right behind a rock staring up at his craft. You can also see a eyeless amy sprite as the camera pans to the animal cage

it is kinda funny that ray is captured at exactly 5:55 (in game timer). 5 is pronounced as "go" In Japanese, so it could be pronounced as "gogogo" which could be interpreted as "go! go! go!", telling you to run

as someone who grew up with sonic.exe, this one is actually so much more terrifying in my opinion. i love how they changed the design and made the jumpscares more creative instead of the same old original screamer. and the maps and levels are well made and beautiful. only for it to later become corrupt and dark, even unnoticeable because of how much the sonic.eyx corrupted everything. and the death of eggman was so unexpected. it was way different and i just can't explain anymore how not only am i interested but absolutely terrified with this concenpt, they turned something that was a bit unoriginal and bland into something way more creative and intriguing.

I had a dream once where Exe showed up on my tv screen, the first original one. Already fed up with Sonic.exe, I ripped the cartilage out of my system and, perhaps killed him. Now, if it have been this Thing, I don't think I'd doing the same thing. Eyx is scarier than Exe in my opinion.

I’ve said this before about EYX, eggmans death is often the drawn out executed one and is done off screen in most exe games. However in this game it’s done so suddenly and fast that it makes it stand out

Wouldn’t really call that a theory, and more of a statement, because that’s exactly what happened. And for something extra that was shown in later updates, is that Ray is dead. So that’s actually Ray’s dead soul trying to get help, but the hand obviously tells you that Ray couldn’t escape from him, like future Tails couldn’t.

Another thing not mentioned is how the name of the game tends to change, like right before the "webcam access denied" message pops up it changes to "I want to see you" and then "I NEED to see you" repeated over and over.

this one is a special one for sure. the imagery and sound design are amazing, especially for a .exe game. the bit that scared me the most when watching this was when eggman gets his head torn off, it gave me the most uneasy feeling. people might think “get over yourself it’s just some pixels” but honestly it isn’t lmao, but this is probably the best thing to come out of the release of sonic.exe in my opinion, can i get an amen?

after seeing the eggman scene I know this is a good game, and since the scene looks a lot like bunnyfarm from twf I thought "what if modern exe games and analog horror inspired each other?" I think that would make both of them less bland and more diverse and fresh

A lot of people hate jumpscares, but I'm not against them per se. I just think you have to EARN it, have the proper set up and classy execution. I like the Silent Hill 1 otherworld locker room jumpscare because it has multiple layers of setup and clever execution.

here is something that makes the game a bit scarier: the events has random timing in the game. example: sometimes the "entity" will catch ray DIRECTLY a few seconds after the level starts. and if that happens, before the game closes itself, a cutscene of ray falling down and the entity ripping off ray's face. the timing thing helps it so the game feels more realistic, more like there is an actual virus in it

I love when games like DDLC and Sonic.EYX mess with your computer or internet, while it does freak me out a bit too much to play, it's interesting to deconstruct and is a great way to sell the horror of "this thing is sentient"

I haven't personally seen a lot of other people mention it, but when you get past the hanging bars section in Crystal Lake Zone, there is a bridge(?) with an opening in the middle If you go down in between the opening, you'll fall in the water. Go all the way to the left and you'll find a spooky easter egg! It made my stomach drop when I found it haha

I still think using jumpscares is cheap for horror, I feel like if a sonic.exe game would be at its scariest if there were like 1 jumpscare or none at all, and instead fully embraced psychological horror. ‘The (coronation day) SMW rom hack for me at least does this job right and I think future sonic.exe fangames need to take notes from it.

Another thing you missed is if you try to shove off EYX's "MEET ME AT THE BEGINNING" and instead go back to the end, you'll have a countdown that's around a minute long before what I can only describe as EYX if he was Tails grabs you.

I think a good concept for a creepy pasta game is where the monster doesn’t upfront show you he’s a creature of the unknown and has stupid amounts of power. I want to see one where he tries to hide he’s a monster, sounds cool.

The concept of a possessed video game character staring at you is very unsettling. The first sonic exe fan made game that I know of that shows us this is lord X. There are a few times where he breaks the fourth wall and looks and you. But making a entire game based on that idea is genius. Sonic even tried to turn your camera on.

Both are different interpretations of Sonic.EXE, just like EYX. 5:57 You forgot to mention Ray trying to communicate with the player, as shown at the top left. (Sonic Please Stop Somebody Help Me) 7:34 That part is not true. Sonic.EYX's creator, Kaua16, explained EYX isn't an entity that "possessed Sonic". 10:57 Even if it's dark, one can easily tell this isn't EYX but Ray the Squirrel without any skin on his face, completely eyeless. The shape of Ray's head is quite noticeable. A hand grabs Ray's head and pulls him down, which is EYX dragging Ray. 12:32 "Ray's image is the only one not destroyed" but that's Amy Rose's image. Ray's image is 6th image/top right. Fun facts: When LuigiKid played the game, a unique jumpscare appeared right when he started the game, catching off-guard. This jumpscare only appeared in his first Sonic.EYX video and no other KZfaqrs got this jumpscare. The game gets a secret when April 1st comes...

One of my favorite Exe games was Spirits of Hell, it just puts alot of suspense and choices to decide your fate. S.O.H also has Fourth wall breaking and the sad scenes you have to go through to get the good ending and not have everyone die.

i find it amazing that this is such a clever concept. that sonic.exe sparked this whole thing for us. something that stood out to me was all the distorted art and faces. it reminded me heavily of the walten files (which is a good thing!!) when a character dies.

Actually Gear, Ray's portrait in 12:35 is destroyed. It's actually Amy over there on the very bottom. It's actually Modern Amy as opposed Rosy the Rascal from Sonic CD, who died based on this cutscene in 9:20. You gotta go frame by frame, but when you see it, it's hard to miss.

I like this game, because it actually makes you believe something horrible is going on inside it. That you are messing with a force beyond your comprehension and only a thin barrier keeps you safe from that thing. You don't feel endangered directly, but you don't exactly feel safe either.

I love the fourth wall break which actually interferes with your computer and the files on it. DDLC done an amazing job of this for example, by being so sensitive to the changes within the games files, you can change the game in so many ways

Look at the text in the upper left corner from 5:32 onward. It keeps changing from 'Score, Time, Rings' to things like 'Sonic, Stop, Please', 'Somebody, Help, Me', and 'Player, Save, Me'. I really adore little details like that. The only way I think it could be more impactful is if it read your system to call you by name. Although depending on what your told your computer your name was, that might make it /lose/ effectiveness. 'Eric, Save, Me' if your name is Eric would be scary, 'Big Chungus, Save, Me' wouldn't be lol. And you totally could save him too. Just turn off the game. I have a love/hate relationship with media like this- media that doesn't want to be played, watched, or consumed. Movies like Funny Games or games like Deltarune. One on hand, it can be an important reminder to examine what you're watching and make sure you're not turning into some gore-hungry ghoul. On the other hand, it can come off as insanely preachy and hypocritical if handled poorly. I do think it works best in horror media, though. It's very 'The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You' which is a fun trope.

Sonic.exe is like DOOM 2016 hellish (because of the doom 1 background image at the end and how the game works), Sonic.eyx looks like its from the void, has details that are 10x more creepier than the original sonic.exe, jumpscares are even more scarier, and even the client is like alive moving around your screen while glitching. I love everything about it, and is still being developed.
