This video is probably the most underrated Sonic video I’ve ever seen... Unleashed Sonic = Greatest Sonic Forces sonic would of been cool if he actually felt other emotions. He cracked a joke after getting “tortured” I really hope Ian Flynn writes the next game. He really knows the characters well.

This... is beautiful. What you've said really touched my heart. The moment you said how you supported the "friendly" Sonic and still adoring 90's Sonic was wonderful. You perfectly described who Sonic is, and why he stays near and dear to my heart. You helped me see why I've believed in and loved/adored/admired Sonic for ages. Why I stuck by him. Because his personality embodies the character traits I like to see in people. Sonic was always a role-model and inspiration to many, including me. He is my favorite character to draw; and whenever I look at that smiling, shiny-eyed face... I see a person within that golden heart. (I guess you could say he was always my fictional crush. ^//^') Whenever I admired and loved someone the same way, I'd call them "my Sonic". I know; it's an Amy thing to say/do... but it is the honest truth. I have loved this fictional hedgehog almost like he was a best friend. Even if he was imaginary, it always felt like he brought joy, love, happiness, and positive adventure with him. i love sonic. i love sonic alot, when i was a kid the most awesome game i played back than was sonic unleashed on xbox 360. the opening cutscene was so awesome and it stays in my mind forever. i love this game because i got too play as sonic and not only did he have an *objective* he also had a *problem* . usually those two are the same, but with unleashed you have fixing the earth with the chaos emeralds as an objective and your werehog form as a problem. this game was the sonic that i saw and believe in. i love sonic and what may come in his future.

Have you ever seen the Japanese cutscenes for sonic colors, lost world, and to some extent forces, there a KZfaq channel called windii gitlord who translates and sonic is still pretty much in character from his adventure/unleashed days.

This was a fantastic video. What you’ve said is exactly how I’ve always viewed Sonic, I just could never get the words out. Since I first got into the series I’ve looked up to Sonic as a role model & personal hero of mine. Throughout elementary school I struggled with anxiety, was socially awkward & had trouble making friends, with 4th grade being my loneliest year. But whenever I got home & played a Sonic game, watched playthroughs or watched his TV shows, I’d get a boost of motivation. I wanted to be just like Sonic, & I still do to this day. Here I am now, 17 with friends I can count on, lending a hand whenever there’s an opportunity to, & I’m happy as ever. Heck, my yearbook quote is gonna be a Sonic quote. Even as I got older & learned of his flaws & the not so pretty things about the franchise, I didn’t care. The more I dug into Sonic, the more I learned to love & appreciate every corner of the series. When I was little I would fantasize that Sonic and his friends were real, & that we could’ve been best friends. I still do from time to time. I’m so proud of how far Sonic has come, especially from my earlier memories of him. He’s still my hero to this day, & will likely always will be. Sonic is & will forever be my favorite fictional character of all time.

As someone who's first Sonic game was also SA2, you really hit the nail on the head on everything that makes him great. I didn't even consider how he embodies the flat character arc beforehand, but now that you pointed it out I'd say he's probably my favourite example of one! Keep up the great work, man.

even though I’m not the biggest fan of a lot of the sonic games, I think I’ve only considered two actually great while the rest is fine to mediocre, i don’t care, I’ve been a humongous fan of the characters, Sonic is legit the most fun character and I can’t stop being a fan of the series despite my opinions on the games, I fucking love Sonic and I don’t think I’ll ever stop man, he’s just a fun guy with great music, memorable moments and a personality that is unlike any other video game character.

My first Sonic Game was Black Knight and not only did i liked this Charakter a lot in the beginning but in the end as he did show the villian what he think of life, that was the best Video näh MOMENT in every Media ever.

This was a well done video! You made some excellent and valid points. Jason Griffith's portrayal of Sonic is what made me fall in love with the blue blur. Specifically after watching Sonic X. His personality and behavior was amazing. I especially loved how he treated Tails and Cream. He was almost like an older brother to them. Heck, I'd even go as far as saying a father to them too. I personally felt like Jason showed the best representation of Sonic's character and exactly what people should think of when it comes to his personality and traits. Fearlessness, humility, ethical, kind hearted, caring, persevering, down to earth, and speaks his mind whether it's to be snarky or it's to point out something he thinks is wrong or strange. Sonic the Hedgehog always seemed personality like a mix between different fictional protagonists; Spider-Man - For his heroic and caring personality. Indiana Jones - For his cocky attitude but strong sense of what's wrong or right. Ash Ketchum - For his courage and sense of never giving up. Deadpool (But less profane and foul) - For his snarky humor and sass.

Honestly this video explains why I love Sonics character in perfect detail, while he may not be my favourite Sonic character (my user image should say who is) I still love him and his games.

Oh my god thank you. This is literally how I've felt about this near enough for a decade or so. The fact that Sonic's writing quality control has been abandoned so much in favour of just supposedly not mattering drives me crazy. Sonic's writing helps to make these games, it makes them compelling, it makes them satisfying. Sonic at its core is a shounen game with a shounen protagonist. The people who have said Sonic is just a jerk with a lot of confidence or that it's a game about a goofy blue talking hedgehog and therefore the character doesn't matter undermines the whole point of the characters grandeur. Sonic is one to build and inspire confidence even at the worst of times though actions and positivity, a little banter helps encourage and push others to do the same. He'll never tell Eggman that he shouldn't even try, rather Sonic will encourage him to give it his best shot and then do it all again and then some.

Sega had a golden goose in Sonic for years and the ways they have squarnded that is simply mind blowing. Luckily Pontac and Graff are finally gone and I hope the new writers can tap into Sonic recent surge in popularity and it provides alot of people that people still do care about this great character! UPDATE: I actually made this before Pontac confirmed it himself in that interview so I was right and that's good.

My opinion, sonic was also one of my childhood favorites, he’s cool, has good games, he’s fast. But I’d say he’s kinda far from perfect. Sure he’s a good example of a flat character, but his flaws is what makes him kinda great. He can be quite too annoying at times and just like the relationship between goku and vegeta (ironic). He was one of my favorites but nowadays, he’s from 2nd favorite video game character to 5th, only to be beaten by king dedede and mega man. But sure, he is sometimes a good character, which inspired a idea of mine, mixed with sans, spider man, etc

My personal favourite interpretation of Sonic was in Sonic And The Black Knight, also because that was actually one of my first Sonic games and personally one of my favourites. I don’t mind Sonic being a little cocky and joking around, but I like how when it’s time to get serious and mature, he is. Like how he stopped to ask a lost little girl if she is alright, or how he stopped Gawain from suicide or of course, how he teaches Merlina the meaning of life. I also feel like Sonic has some of the best quotes in that game, such as: “Every world has its end. I know that’s kinda sad but...that’s why we gotta live life to the fullest in the time we have” I absolutely love that quote! It’s my favourite quote any fictional character has ever said.

I think Sonic's behaviour since Colors makes sense. Sonic seemed depressed since Shadow the Hedgehog. It was probably first such violent war for him. He got fine with killing, as evidenced in Black Knight, when he refused to kill or even imprison Chaos before. In 06 he was all show of feeling fine but got better thanks to power of love (which got undone), in Unleashed he had to regain inner joy during his world tour. And that joy is present in Colors.

The Blue Blur himself. I agree with Sonic being the perfect character. I always loved the cocky, smug attitude he had, because it shows just how cool he really is. In contrast to Mario, that's what makes Sonic stand out from the typical "goody-two shoes" protagonist. Sonic is the prime definition of an alpha male chad. He's even got the charm and swagger to prove it. Just like Shadow, I have some questions for you regarding Sonic... 1. Between Amy and Sally, who's the better romance partner for Sonic? I've grown pretty fond of Sonamy in the IDW comics since Amy becomes more mature, but my stance on Sonally is a bit shaky (mostly because it felt like a furry soap opera in the Archie comics). Although, it makes more sense than Sally and Nicole dating. 2. If Sonic ended up not dating either of the girls I mentioned previously, could you see him in a relationship with Mighty? He's the only male character that I believe could work well with Sonic. During the Post-Reboot era of the Archie comics, it felt like there was a subtle hint of flirting/teasing between them. [keep in mind that this question is purely hypothetical] 3. How do you feel about Sonic being a "fanservice" character? SEGA/Sonic Team did something like that when Rouge made her debut. Sonic himself can attract fans of both genders based on his good looks and heroism. Those same type of fans classify him as the ideal male model. It doesn't help that he barely wears any clothes.

Reads title: I know Sonic is a pretty interesting character, only seeing his design is enough for understanding him, a positive, fast paced person with a golden heart, that doesn't care about the past always he can keep moving forward Sonic isn't the character that you see getting sad or angry, he usually will smile... But the Forces Sonic... I feel him a little bit empty, he has nothing but a happy feeling even being though he was "tortured" making him presence how everything he loved dissapeared, if he keeped a smile but looked a little bit hurted by that ill feel something pretty distint Ive always had the headcanon that not everything the games told us the exact events, in his world Sonic is a recognized hero, SEGA asks the Hedgehog and his friends about the stories they live, and after that, SEGA and the Sonic team adapt it to make the stories videogames, that'll explain the references to games inside the same franchise Is my reason to move on actually... A character like this... So alive you can basically fuse with him some times when playing, reading or watching him... Getting in a new world where you just... *Gotta go fast*

My Holy Trio: Spider-Man, Sonic and Batman

I disagree. Forces handled Sonic the worst. His character is nothing but constant one liners that cranked up to 11, making every scene with him a complete annoyance. His constant immature attitude, along with the writing elements that make him seem less and less convinced and worried about his friends being in danger and the fact that Eggman's taken control is very... jarring, to say the least. Every scene where he spouts a one liner within the most immature times always annoyed me, and I know he's done those kinds of comments in the past, but the script was just.. painful. He shrugs off Ultra Space by boosting within eight seconds, there's no sense of hopelessness within his air after being TORTURED FOR MONTHS, and every story beat with Infinite plays him out as some forcefully shoehorned generic quote about having no friends. Comparing his interactions to another obscure villain like King Arthur for example, and you can note a difference in the writing and snark. Its not too big in order to be misconstrued as annoying, but not too little to seem generic. Its true fearlessness, whereas with Infinite it feels as if its just stupidity, especially considering the context that he's been captured, his friends are in trouble all the time and he's getting tortured. Like, wouldn't that at least shed a *small* dent within his personality? I get that he's fearless and confident, but every character has limits. It almost feels like Sonic has none, and while that may be a good thing in some areas, its also bad in others. What happens if, say, Tails and all his friends turn into robots? Would he just destroy them and move on the way with a cocky smile, confident that things can go back to normal? What happens if he has to fight and sacrifice himself? Would he just do it with a smile, then when he's in the dead realm, just Double boost out of it and come back to life? It really annoys me that they wrote this character to be so blatant and stupid in Forces, and I'm tired of people defending that game. Sonic Forces is not the way to write Sonic, and its not a "better" way of writing it. It's horrible.

Why Sonic is a great character on videogames and just because he is a fictional? Amazing adventures, making and having good friends, lives dangerously while saving his planet from Eggman's evil plans, Videogames with good story and soundtrack. Including Unleashed and Generations. Tv-Series are good, especially Sonic X and the best voice actor (on my opinion) Jason Griffith. I just like Sonic The Hedgehog.

Y'know who I've felt is a perfect character with no context, classic Bugs Bunny. He always has something to say, and he's not ever worried about who or what he's dealing with, like he was always playing. And I kinda feel similar with Spider-Man when he's just randomly quipping at his villains, not worried about his personal life stuff.

Sonic is a thrill seeker with attitude and a heart of gold

Black Knight to me was peak Sonic (in terms of writing). I feel as if every single aspect of Sonic were portrayed at its best. His attitude; compassion, bravery, care-free nature, they were all so well displayed. Sonic in that game legitimately taught me to enjoy my life for as long as it lasts and that last cutscene will always stick with me.

Sonic having bad writing traits is still good, and I don't know why. He just breaks the logic.

I actually far more prefer the rude, abrasive prick Sonic in the games. It seems to be like Iizuka's whole thing, even NiGHTS was an opportunistic asshole that knowingly abandoned Elliot and Claire in dream world at the end of that game once they were no longer of use to them.. It's cool that a "hero" becomes questionable when you start actually looking into it imo
