Welcome back to the Wltoys V912 helicopter!
I've finally finished modifying the copter and took it out to fly, it's a blast!
Mods done:
- Extended tail fin to protect rear rotor gear
- Lowered control board
- Raised battery
- Added low voltage alarm
- Added heatsink to original motor

I replaced the blades with the ones that came with the V913 and the lift is incredible - the tail boom extension is a must

Nice video, I recently got a v912 and have had a lot of fun with it. A little nervous about making mods, but your video gives some good info.

I've not done a ton of flying with mine recently but it does still work and the motor has yet to burn up. I figure a battery then 5 minute cool time is preferred being the motor runs hot, even after this mod. It's a fun copter, just that it's a bit heavy and hard to stop...sort of like flying a city bus! lol

You can leave it in the helicopter and charge it with the supplied charger. it will take about an hour or more

I dremmeled out the windshield ( black part ) of canopy, painted flat black the cut edges & glued from the inside nylon window screen. It molded to the curvature very well. Had time to tinker , but no flights yet as wind is high.Hopefully & perhaps it may have solved probs.of motors short life due to overheating.

I fly it in winther often in 5 minus c and then it,s not so warm.But som spare motors is a god idea or buy the brushless )

May i know what that round silver thing on top is?i just got myself one.first flight i crashed it and that silver thing got bent..any idea how i can repair it?

Banggood.com and other sites have parts for it. It should be called the ""Aluminum cover". www.banggood.com/buy/v912-parts.html If ordering parts, get a few tail rotor gears and even a main rotor gear. The tail rotor gear is the first to break on this cheap bird.

Looking for help. I bought a v912 and only one servo worked. I swapped the servo wires to determine if the issue was with the PCB or the servos. Basically either servo alone worked fine on the inner plug but not on the outer plug. That is- each would work alone when on the inner plug but the outer plug would not operate any particular servo. Outer plug connected servo just buzzed a bit and had resistance. So I assumed it was a bad PCB. Seemed logical. One plug was good and one was bad. Replaced the PCB with a new one and same result! Any ideas? I am out of ideas. Based on logic - servos all good, wires all good - bad PCB again?

could be a bad Rx pack but i think it's built into the PCB on this unit so eh, yeah my guess is bad second PCB, these things are cheap and mass produced. also check radio settings though, could be the tx has a fault or bad connection

Is there an alternative brushed motor I can put on the V912 tail rotor? mine went after about 10 flights, I have ordered 2 more like, but it's a pain waiting for order to arrive!!!

+R.D. Callands If I remember correctly, there's just a simple balance port charger with this helicopter. Plug the balance cord from the battery into the charger and then power up the charger. Personally, I use the Turnigy chargers and other 4 button smart chargers as they work better, quicker, and supply info about the battery and the battery health on screen. Just a small upgrade tip! lose that odd, horizontal whingything on the tail, above the tailstruts. It's useless, and the rotorwash, just pushes it down!! Slightly better performance without it.

just heard you say you hover with about +70% full power. That's interesting.. with my stock v912 & stock battery i hover with about 45%

Hi, i got the same heli....when i turnig on....a red light on the circuit board is flashing rapidly and not stop....is doesn't connect to the remote...!! U got any ideea why..? or can u help me..? Thank's.

Proper power on sequence should be as follows. 1) Turn on helicopter being sure it's on somewhat level ground - Red light should rapidly flash on the board. 2) Turn on the transmitter making sure throttle is at minimum. after beeping, it should be bound to the helicopter. If it does not work as follows, return it as there is a good chance it's broken. These helis are churned out so fast in China land that there's a chance yours is just defective.

i notice you replaced your stock battery into Turnigy 1000mAh 2S 20C Lipo Pack and they're pretty cheap in hobbyking so im deciding if i should buy it or not. Can you tell me the difference you saw from upgrading it into this battery or can i use the stock charger that came with v912 to charge this turnigy battery? thanks

I own quite a few batteries but the ones I'm running are the Turnigy 1K mAh 2s pack for longer fly time. I gained at least a few more minutes off these better batteries, they are worth it :)

I got my v912 a week ago and at a fully charged battery its not going more than half a metre off the ground with full throttle i dont know whats the problem need some help please

Sounds like a bad battery or charger, not uncommon for these cheap toys... Get a different battery (2 cell, 1KmAh) and I'd suggest a better charger as well, such as the Hobbyking Accucel 6 www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__7028__Turnigy_Accucel_6_50W_6A_Balancer_Charger_w_Accessories.html You'll want a power supply such as this: www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__20971__Hobbyking_105W_15V_7A_Switching_DC_Power_Supply.html check out TheQuadSpot youtube channel for a list of videos on how to operate that charger. It's a good start and a good investment.

Why add the heat sink? Isn't the whole aluminum frame a heat sink? It seams that you have basically reduced the area of the heat sink by cutting away the frame.

+Ian Gill The frame aluminum is in two sections and quite small, an actual heat sink mounted on the motor reduces the heat quite a bit more and keeps it alive as most reports say it overheats and dies rather quickly.

+arsbasauri for this helicopter, 20c is fine...if you were beefing up the motor to something crazy id go higher C rating, but that adds weight to the battery.

Appollo scott shoved it in the nosecone at an angle over the board. Someone on RC groups forum had a similar setup with an angled piece to support the battery.

I am a newby! I have the V912, which has been great for a couple months. Now, for some unknown reason, it will not longer bind to my controller. Could someone please tell me what I need to do to fix this problem? Thanks.

Make sure your batteries are all good, and that you've turned on the heli first, then the transmitter. This is backwards from normal RC equipment where you usually first always turn on the transmitter (controller) and then the plane/heli. If it's not binding, consider it broken...these are cheap helis and I've found them to either work or not work.

I've done a little more research on the web and see what you mean. It just seams a real pity that that relatively big chunk of aluminium doesn't work as a heat sink. It seams to me that the designers may have intended it to be a heat sink or it could have been made of plastic. Do you know if anybody has tried using heatsink paste like on a CPU between the motor and the frame?

Víctor Narváez If I had this copter with me in my new location I'd give you some details but the battery I used in this was just about as large as could fit. I'd not use large batteries with the stock motor anyways due to the overheating issues.

I will for sure have a final flight video of the copter after mods. I was able to do some quick finishes on this but am now away on vacation. That flight will have to wait :)

Or even better, lose the V912, and get the FX071 from Fei Lun. It has the same design, and uses almost all the same parts, as the V912, but this one is....Flybarless!!!! No more canopy/ tail strikes,the tailrotor is elevated, so it doesnt hit the ground anymore, longer flighttime (12 minutes), and banks and turns on a dime, and funnels like a 6ch model!!!
