20 күн бұрынI had discovered Criss this past year and, oh man, it has been a pleasure hearing this guy. Sonny Criss is a monster who is, unfortunately, a pretty obscure player from what I see. Of all the people who were directly inspired by Charlie Parker when he was alive, (Jackie McLean, Sonny Stitt, Sonny Rollins, Phil Woods) Criss is barely mentioned, if at all.
It’s a shame lol. Hopefully this’ll get some people hip to his stuff, check out the rest of the album this song is from, “Mr Blues Pour Flirter”

excellent work! you'd think with the wealth of recordings he made in his lifetime, he'd be better remembered and appreciated but i feel that most west coast musicians in general tend to be overlooked and forgotten unfortunately
