Sonny Liston - A Man They All Feared

Charles L. Liston, better known as Sonny Liston. One of boxing's most feared men of all time. Known for his power, he set fear into everyone's heart. Even Ali admitted that he was terrified of him. One stare of his and you would be petrified. He wasn't just an intimidator, he was a terrorizer. A terminator, a dominator.
Sonny had something that only a few boxers have and that is wall breaking, bone crushing power. He had alliances with the mob who ended turning their backs on him.
Liston had a troubled past being in a family with about 22 siblings, living with an abusive father and having to flee. Sonny fought on the streets and got arrested many times. In prison, he learned the art of boxing at an old age (only being an amateur for around one year before turning pro). Which is very impressive knowing the fact that he then went on to dominate an entire division.
To this day, not much is known is about his past aside from the mafia and prison. Not even his birthdate is fully known as people had to lie about his age. Not even Sonny knew his own age as he did not know how to read nor write. It is estimated that he was born in the 1920s or even 1910s.
I wanted to make a video about this legendary fighter who is so underrated and wanted to show how much of a beast he truly was. As I tried to find good music, I stumbled across Aram Zero and immidietely thought that it encaptured Sonny's Style perfectly and allowed for my creativity to run wild. Sonny will always be one of my favourite fighters! He was powerful, entertaining, had one of the best jabs ever, was smart inside the ring and faster than most people would think. It took me quite a while to make this video but I guess that is the price you have to pay to make everything perfect.

Man I do very much admire and have massive respect for a man such as Sonny Liston. More misunderstood in the past and hated by the masses because he didn’t try to be the image they thought he should emulate as a champion boxer. A very tragic tale about a man seen as a monster but shown to be more human than those who despised him and shown that those types of people are the true monsters, not Sonny Liston. RIP Big Man. @stevenkastein1374 Wilder weighed in at 212 when he fought Fury the first time and it was his best outing against Fury. Luis Ortiz was one of the top heavyweights around the same height as Liston but smaller fists and reach. And Liston is much better than Luis Ortiz.

@@stevenkastein1374 heavyweights back then were big as shit too, primo canera was 6'7 270. big guys just didnt last in that era. couldnt counter as fast because arms too bulky. modern heavyweights got annihlated by the smaller deontae wilder with less ability than liston. liston was 215 by weigh in but around 220 on fight night. wilder was weighing in and fighting at 210-214

Sonny Liston must be given the Presidential Pardon. Like it was given to Jack Johnson. In his prime he took apart all his challengers except Ali, for whom he had no answer. A prime Sonny Liston would take apart any of the current heavyweights!

The Liston, Williams fights were wars. Both had great power. But Ali's style was made to order for Liston. She was just too fast of hand and foot. I don't think anyone could have beat Ali at that time, before the 3 year layoff. Maybe Tyson.

Had he been given a fair go and cornered I would say he was unbeatable ...I don't think Ali[Clay] beat him fair and square ....even he said that he was the 2nd greatest ...he had to make way for Ali there was so much going on behind the scene ...seems to me he was the sacrificial lamb .....even [Clay] in his prime with lightning speed still go hit in the face by Liston .. ..and if it wasn't for Clay's foot work and speed he wouldn't have outrun Liston ....because he had to run ..you can put Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey, Marciano up there I stil think Liston would come out on top ..he certainly would have 'killed' Marciano ......and how about Joe Louis ? ...

Liston doesn’t beat the Ali (Clay before1964) that lives from 1963 - 1975, under ANY circumstances.

@@dealingthereal6922very possible. I believe the 1958-1959 Liston who laid waste to the entire top 10 except two that refused to fight him. Which has still never been matched in heavyweight boxing prolly takes even young Ali. Might not but I’d put my money on Liston still. We don’t even know how old he truly was when he fought clay and then he had legitimate shoulder/knee injury’s but they would not post pone the first fight for him to heal. The boxing community really did Sonny dirty. Especially never even allowing him to fight for the title after Ali was stripped of it. As much as I admire Frazier a Liston Frazier fight would of looked just like the first Forman Frazier fight.

how did he not beat him fair? he put poison in ali eye and still lost the round cause he couldnt touch ali then he quit because he was scared he was gonna get koed
