Is the Sony a6300 worth it in 2020? It was released in February 2016. This is a 3 year review of the Sony a6300, as I've owned it a little under that amount of time. I've made dozen of videos with the a6300, almost 8,000 photos, done professional photography jobs as well as casual photography. There is a lot to like about this camera, as well as some things that Sony could have done better. This is my take on the Sony a6300 after 3 years.

Still running in 2021. This camera has built.my carrer. Very underrated. Any camera is a tool and it really is the person behind it who will do wonders with it. Anyone who says it's not a good camera should find a different hobby/profession.

Thanks for the review! I've been hesitant whether or not i should upgrade, only had my a6300 for just over a year and do a mix of cinematic stuff, vlogs and photography. I think for now i'll save my money and invest in another lens to expand my kit

Such a good review. I am torn between Canon M50, Sony A6300 and Sony A6400. I have never owned a camera, but I would really want to get into it. The reason for why I am even looking at the more expensive A6400 is because I wouldn't want to upgrade for 4-5 years. What do you think Mike ? Again, very very good video and lighting setup :); simple and efficient.

So glad it was helpful! And thanks for the comment! What is your budget? And what do you plan on using the camera for? All the cameras you mentioned would be great to start with. But they each have their pros, cons, strengths and weaknesses that you'll have to weigh against what your plans for the camera are. The Canon m50 is the most budget friendly, and has a flip around LCD screen (good for vlogging). BUT, the menu system options 4k recording are lacking compared to Sony (in my opinion). The a6300 is second cheapest, and its focusing system is superior to Canon's, but it doesn't have a flip around screen. The a6400 has the flip up screen, but it blocks the space a microphone would go, and there's no in body image stabilization, so you'd more or less be stuck with Sony's line of OSS lenses for vlogging/video. The a6500 has IBIS but no flip up screen (this is the camera I use for video vlogging of the IBIS. That was probably a lot of info, but just some things to think about. Hope it helps!

@@MiketheMathMan Thanks for the quick reply. I will be using the camera mostly for video recording, talking head videos and I won't be doing any vlogging, so IBIS is not my main concern. I will be shooting 90% of my videos from a tripod / gorillapod. In regards to the flipscreen / microphone issue on the A6400 I could use a smallrig bracket (the tiny one that just moves the mic position onto the other side). Featurewise, the A6400 seems the complete package and good enough for at least 4 years from now. I didn't exactly set a budget for this purchase because it is my first contact with the photo/video world and I had no idea about prices, etc. After watching 100+ hours of reviews I came to the conclusion that the Canon M50 is the most comfortable to use by far because of it's touchscreen and easy of use in the menus, but I think it just looks a bit soft (on the skintones) for my taste. Sony A6300 seems like a great choice, but the price in the UK is about £700 which is a problem because I feel that it's worth paying £250 more in order to get the A6400, which seems to be a truly amazing package. I do not plan on getting into photography, but more into videography, tech reviews, talking head mostly outdoors. What do you feel about the Sony ecosystem overall ?

Sounds like you've done some excellent research! I'd say go for the a6400 then👍 I'm really enjoying the Sony ecosystem. They have a much better variety of lenses than they did a few years ago. And the menu systems on their cameras, combined with the button/dial layout (at least from my experience) is pretty easy to get used to. Good luck and let me know how things go!

SebastianFM for 250 dollar extra you will be paying for better color science, eye af and probably better af which i think a6300 is not that bad compared to a6400. And i would say the extra features that a6400 is not something that you could not live without. Video features is exactly the same, both can record in 4k 30/24p, high speed 1080 120p and still no IBIS for a6400. Nothing has changed that much, a6400 is a buffed version of a6300. My advice is, since a6400 features does not differ that much to a6300, just go for a6300 and spend that 250 dollar for good lense, totally worth it. As for other brands like canon m50, it is not comparable, i would say they are a step behind a6300 in terms of dynamic range, video quality and they have different lens mount to the other canon systems while in sony there is only one mount to rule them all.

Do you have a video on color setting without using color grading for a new beginner? Also what prime lens would you recommend for a new beauty/talking head KZfaq channel? Thanks for your time!

This camera shoots 8 bit video so color grading wont help much. However you can just shoot the in the Cone profile. Comes out great from the camera.

I want to purchase a6300 that was used professionally and probably was pushing the limits constantly, what do you think, is that good purchase and if I can resell it in a year?

Are the eye af and face detection and tracking reliable? With high hit rate?? Thank you
@MiketheMathMan
@MiketheMathMan 4 жыл бұрын
Face detection is spot on most of the time. Being mostly an interior design, landscape and cityscape photographer, I haven't had any need to track fast moving objects. But the few times I've done portraits, face detection has been really good. Unfortunately there is no eye detection on the 6300. Hope that helps.
