I`ve used this camera since august this year and I must say Im very happy about the purchase. (I`ve had a6300 and a6600 previously after the Pana GH4. Much thanks to your review of those cameras which I highly agree on). As you state: The size/weight to performance ratio is outstanding. Excellent IQ, Cinetone (good video image SOOC), 10-bit, insane AF, S-LOG, slow-mo etc. The couple of things that still annoys the heck out of me, which noone mentions, include following: -The histogram disappears when changing ISO. -There is no way to show the inclination/roll level at same time as histogram. That was already possible in 2014 with the GH4. Sounds like a detail but in real life use cases it is not :) -Less battery time than a6600 but I understand why. -Fully articulated screen not as "fast" in use as the flip screen on eg a6600. Pros and cons. Especially when using gloves/mittens during mountaineering etc. Otherwise, thanks for a great review, HS :)

Great video about this APS-C. Happy to see that you are power zoom lenses for video. Sony is the only manufacter making high quality power zoom lenses. This camera is geared to content creator combining it with Sony APS-C wide angle lenses. Unfortunatly not even the Cinema line such FX30 and FX3 also don’t have proper open gate or anamorphic lens support.

That's stunning night time video of the street! My unit definitely came with the hot shoe cover and the rubber viewfinder cup (not shown in the video) - which I promptly lost. I think both were in a small plastic bag. A big plus for me on this camera was the 4K120 with a 1.56x crop. This is excellent for fast moving wildlife and sports. Neither Canon nor Nikon have something like this at a price point under $1500. It's too bad that Catalyst Browse cops out at 60P though. If you shoot birds like I do and crop 95% of the time this camera can give you pro features at 1/3 the cost of full frame.

This is exactly why I am getting this camera too! Hopefully will get good wildlife & nature shots! As a beginner I am going for a 18-300 tamron all in one lens over the 70-350sony lens. Do you think it'll be a better solution ? I think 50mm on the long end isnt that big of a missing factor but the 18mm on the wide end will let me take a lot more wider shots on landscapes and street too. What do you think ?
@dfusselman
@dfusselman 4 ай бұрын
@@tanmaysakpalofficial I'm not a camera/ lens reviewer so I don't have experience a huge range of lenses. From what I gather, the Tamron lens is a sharp lens close up but then a little softer (but still usable) on the long end. It's a good all-purpose lens but you will likely find yourself looking for a longer optic with wildlife - especially birds. There's a massive difference between 18 mm and 70 mm on the short end so the Sony lens is not as versatile as the Tamron. For wildlife, you pretty much need a 600 mm lens. They're heavy and expensive but necessary for birds or any distant wildlife. If you want performance, the Sony 200-600 is probably your best bet. Sony does not make any lenses past 350mm for a crop sensor that I know of so you must buy a full frame lens. That's generally true with all major camera manufacturers. It all kind of depends on what your desires are and how much you want to pay. Crop sensors generally have higher pixel density so the sharpness of the lens is equal to or more important than that of a full frame sensor. I think the Tamron could be a good starting lens for you, but you might find that later on you'll want something longer, sharper, and faster. In short, the Tamron is good all around optic that is sharper on the wider end, but neither that nor the Sony is adequate for wildlife photography in my opinion. They're certainly better than nothing, but much of what you see out in the field is far away and you'll need a longer lens for that. You have an excellent sensor in the a6700 and to make the best use of it, you need to pony up some money for good glass- especially on the long end.

It has been long time coming, but geez we aren't that far away from the a7c though, at least used anyway. I think the a6700 is a logical evolution of the a6xxx family. More likely than not if I was running around with this would be the XLR Kit adapter so the cover they omit is not a big deal, plus I have spares anyway. Could make the great events camera where distance and longish lenses will go nice with a 1.5 crop. The 100 series battery is really nice and not that 50 battery that dies just looking at it. I just can't wrap my ahead around it since I can get a used a7c for about the same money as a new a6700. But I can wait a while and get a used one. I am patient. I just won't pay the new price for any camera today. As usual, your reviews are excellent.

The A7 C2 should behave just like the a74 in video (same sensor). It'll have crisper 4K at 24,30p video, but the 4K60 will be similar to the a6700 since it is cropped. Unless you're shooting at long lengths and at higher frame rates, I would stick with full frame. It's just going to give you a better image and low light capabilities. That said, I'm not sure how many people would notice much of a difference.

@@dfusselman A6700 uses full downsampling in 4K 60p, there is only slight downsampling in 4K 60 on the A7 IV but it has significant pixel density advantage, so it will probably be very similar in reality.

@sfiron I don't think that there is a point in your original comment. Not every crop sensor camera has to be designed to be a professional wildlife camera... Again, it is designed for a different type of use and it is great at that. It is like criticizing an SUV for not being a light-duty truck... Content creator niche is many times larger than the wildlife niche. Therefore making it "look" like the R7, which content creators couldn't care less about, would be extremely counterproductive. Making it as small as possible is without a doubt the right choice. I don't know how you came to that conclusion, but Sony is definitely not loosing market share, just the opposite.
