The Sony A6700 is a nearly perfect hybrid camera with great video quality fantastic photo quality and so much more, BUT there are a couple reasons you may not want it. In this review I will break down the strengths and weaknesses of the A6700, show the video and photo quality as well as why this is such a great hybrid camera and probably should be the best camera of 2023 to choose for most people.

I bought the a6700 back in August. I love it! It is so good and easy to use. And the Tamron 17-70 f2.8 fits this camera superb. My favorite lens for this camera!

I have watched a few reviews by professionals and they all reported the same issue where this Tamron OSS does not work well with the A6700. It makes the vdo footage shaky instead of making it more stable. Do you find this to be the case? I am considering this len to replace my Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 for the extra range but the OSS issue really bothers me.

@@rsat9526 Hi! I haven’t had any problems with the 17-70 on my a6700. It is my favorite lens for this camera. I also have the Sony 10-20mm f4. Very happy with that lens as well for the a6700. I’m also considering to buy the Sony 200-600mm. Trying to find a good deal for a used lens.

Hey Jake thanks for the great video. I got my a6700 a couple of months ago and just love it for bird photography. Combine this with the Sony 200-600mm lens and you have an amazing combo for both photos and videos. The AF is amazing and the 4k120 video is really good and for my needs the crop is a plus to get that extra reach! I couldn't be happier with my a6700 for birds. Cheers.

Saw a couple of your videos. Amazing bird shots taken by a6700. I plan to buy this camera with tamron 18-300 all in one zoom for starters as a beginner. Will the focal range be enough to do some amateur bird/wildlife photo/video?

@@tanmaysakpalofficial thanks so much for the kind words and for checking out my videos. I would say that 18-300 would be a great way to start with bird photography but I think you will find unless you can get really close you will want more range. That said that 18-300 is a pretty good all round lens so I say give it a shot. For me I shoot a lot of my shots at 600mm and soon at 800mm once I get the Canon 200-800 lens. Hope this helps.

@@PhotoGearFun thank you for your valuable insights. As I'm absolutely new with the mirrorless camera thing I'll start with the all in one zoom and a couple other primes for general photo/video needs. I'm interested in wildlife/nature/street kinda content so as I start to learn with these gears I'll figure out my interests and then decide on more expensive & premium lens 🙌 once again thank you for your reply and feedback 😊

I couldn't agree more! I tried to go out and get some wildlife/bird content with this unfortunately we got hammered with some pretty good winter storms so it made it difficult lol. with the AF in this camera I can only imagine it would work amazing for that type of content! I'll have to check out some of your videos! Thanks for the kind words

Hey Jake! Really great video! Very detailed and at a good length! I was wondering if there would another camera you would recomend? I'm selling my m50 and would love to get into the sony ecosystem (It's much more simple) and I want to use the camera for hybrid purposes. I also make a lot of video, and Would be nice to use my camera as a webcam, so I'm afraid the a6700 wouldn't be a good option. Is there any other camera you would recomend? Even if I have to pay a bit more? Thanks!!

I would highly recommend the FX30 in that case, You can still take photos and great video as it has the same sensor but more video focused features. Since it has a fan there is no chance of overheating either

Hello Jake. Just found your channel and I’m very impressed after a few videos. Beautiful content and very informative. I’ve been trying to decide on a hybrid type camera between primarily A74, Canon R6ii and Nikon Z6ii. Primary uses include Talking Heads wildlife, photography/video and general scenery video clips. The A74 seems to lead from a video standpoint, although lacks good stabilization and a good view screen. I feel the same as you about the A6700 ( don’t like the EVF and also small in the hands. Just curious which one you would most recommend? Thanks in advance if you have the time. No worries if you don’t.
@JakeSloan
@JakeSloan 5 ай бұрын
I would lean toward the a7iv with a good lens with OSS built in if you want great low light performance. If low light isn’t super important then the canon r6ii would be my choice.

Good camera, great AF, others have same complaint with IBIS, but using EIS seems to make it at least ok for many with only a small crop if you are careful. Hadn’t realized the A7CII had improved its IBIS. Most folks say the 6700 IBIS is still the same as in the 6600, otherwise pretty impressive on video side, where the viewfinder probably less critical. DP review just included it as one of the 7 best cameras for travel. Always enjoy your videos..wonderful outdoor shots!
@JakeSloan

Thank you! EIS makes it work quite well (but you only get it in 4k up to 60fps) and between this or the A7cII I think they are definitely among the best camera choices for travel. It's amazing the tools we have available today

Hey Jake thanks for the the video. BTW sorry I didn't get to say cheers back the on Wednesday had to go running around for my birthday. How do you compare this camera to the Sony A7 3? Can we maybe talk more about both cameras as always love learning more. That's why I ask so many questions during the live stream I hope I don't bother you. Thank you Jake
@JakeSloan
@JakeSloan 6 ай бұрын
No worries on asking questions! I always appreciate it because all the questions you've asked are likely questions other people have as well. So for this the video quality and photo quality will be better than the A7III but the A7III will do better in low light since it's full frame. The biggest noticeable difference would be in the autofocus system and how much it's been improved over the last few years

@@JakeSloan Thank you very much for the reply. I see that's pretty cool, And it works perfect because I like low light capability but man with that updated auto focus software and autofocus be nice on the A7 III. I can honestly say there's no complaints with the A7 III. Now the first more recent after camcorders I should say timeline, cuz I had a Sony camcorder as well back in the 2000s. Anyways the first Sony model I got recently was the ZV-1 one which I still have. In the first 5 minutes of use the thing overheated and shut off and after I set it up to where the temp is on high for auto shutdown I was introduced to the battery life of the ZV-1. After that got the A7 III. Thank you again very much hopefully you're able to do your Livestream Wednesday.

I upgraded from an a6500 and the difference is night and day. I took it on a trip as my only camera paired with the Tamron 11-20, the Sigma 18-50 and Tamron's full frame 70-300 lens and am very impressed with the results. The ergonomics of the a6700 make it a pleasure to use and it is now my favourite EDC.

Either one will work well. If you already have a good selection of APSC lenses then I’d jump on the a6700. However if you have been thinking about jumping to full frame anyway then this is a great time and the a7cII is a beast (my review will be coming soon). You can still use your APSC lenses and slowly swap them out and upgrade them as you are able to or need to

Hi everyone, im a new sony user from canon, Got my 6700. Ques; anybody knows why sony doesnt have the continuous auto focus when the photo timer is on? the AF-C wont work which i rely on 90% of the time as a solo content creator taking my own moving street photos using my tripod. Its only set on AF-A & results to me being blurred as the subject and the background is sharp when i do walking shots. Is this really sony's feature? How to fix this? Thanks a lot
@JakeSloan

I usually set manual focus for those types of shots as AF-S or AF-A can lead to the incorrect subject in focus or out of focus lol

Seems like a pretty good camera. I assume it has an HDMI out. If I were going to buy one, id rig it up with external memory, battery, and monitor (Atmos Ninja or similar) for recording and mount it on a tripod. Probably overkill for this camera. Just another way to use it.

I upgraded from A6600 and been using it for the past 3 months. I can say that I do not notice the difference in battery life at all vs the A6600. During my last trip to Hokkaido 2 weeks ago, I shot around 300-400 photos a day with around 20-30 short b-roll and the battery lasted the whole day. I came back to the hotel at around 10-20% everyday. Regardless, I always carry extra battery pack with me all the time in case one is somehow not enough.

I have an a6500 and I rented the a6700 for an event, a 3 day convention and It's also not a buy for me. The camera got really warm even just doing photos and it also it was going through Z batteries about as fast as my a6500 goes through NP-FW50's I was going through 3 to 4 a day(I only had 2 so that ment running up to my hotel room and constantly swapping batteries and charging), the a6600 doing the exact same convention I went though only 2 a day, also the buffer is tiny my a6500 with UHS1 v30 cards walks circles around the a6700 unless I am using a v90 card also the back thumb grip was holding all the weight of the camera and ripping the flesh off my finger in that spot I am renting an a7RIV next con see if I like it maybe start the transition to Full frame since they are going around 2k on the used market either that or I double down and just buy more a6500's for B and C cams
