I use the Sony a6700 and 200-600 telephoto zoom lens as well as their 11mm f/1.8 ultra-wide lens to make both landscape and wildlife photos in and around Harrison Bay State park in Tennessee. Come with me and see what I can find on this cold autumn morning!

The mix of landscapes and wildlife was good. I do bird photography more, but having the landscapes in there can remind us to look around at other parts nature while we are out birding.

Nice work Phil. That lake with the fog had me salivating for some photos too. Made for a great backdrop for the Heron pics 📸

Wading as a wading bird will do...classic. I have my Canon 200-800 on order as well can't wait to test that out with the R5, R8, and R7. One again you made some amazing images. So nice you got the Golden Crowned Kinglet. I have. yet to capture one of those beauties. Thanks so much for sharing.

Hi Phil great video! Just picked up the a6700. I am new to bird photography and was wondering if you could share your af settings? Do you use wide or do you like tracking spot? I find when there in the tree's i have more keepers on the flexible tracking spot than wide. Wide seems to hit the branches quite a bit. Any advice from you would greatly help me i am sure. Thanks Phil 🙏🏻

2/3 of the way in on your video, I noticed all your small birds were taken at shutter speed of 1/500 of a second and at the end the deer was taken at 1/320 of a second, oh, and that juvenile redheaded woodpecker at 1/200 of a second, did you use a tripod or leaning on a tree, surely you had stabilizer on? Are you happy with the AI bird eye focus with the 200 to 600 mm lens? Thank you for your helpful and informative video.

Thank you! All of these are hand held. The 200-600 focuses as good as the a6700 allows it too.

Your jacket is very bright for birding 😅
@PhilThach

I bought that jacket for to wear in selfies for scale in landscape photography but I’ve worn it a few times now while photographing birds and haven’t seemed to spook birds any more than I do when wearing much more subtle colors.

Phil, have you made it over to the Chickamauga Dam Day Use Area Boat Ramp to see the Ancient Murrelet? I was there yesterday and got shots with the 100-500 and 1.4x extender from 20 feet away. Amazing little bird!

@@PhilThach It is not skittish. Being a sea bird, I don't think it is afraid of humans. Very small bird, but, when it dives, it chases the fish around and comes up some distance from where it submerges. In the course of feeding, it came within ten to twenty feet of the boat ramp several times. A couple of us sat right at the edge of the water and the bird never seemed bothered by us -- even when we moved or talked. But it usually doesn't stay surfaced for long. It spends more time submerged than on the surface. Smaller than a pied-billed grebe. If tomorrow's your day off, you should go get some photos! There is almost always a birder there to show you where they saw it last. (If you go . . . good luck!)

Nice outing Phil. I’m currently trying to pick a mirrorless camera to purchase and not sure which way to go. Have been using Nikon DSLR till now but can’t really afford higher end mirrorless Nikons. Do you think the Z6 or Z6ii stacks up well still today compared to Sony and Canon models? Others I’ve been considering are Canon R7, Canon R6ii (though Canon lenses are expensive), Sony A74, a6700, Panasonic S5ii. Appreciate any thoughts you might have since it seems you used most of these at one time or another. I’m also hoping to use this camera for video work as well for everything from talking heads to scenery to wildlife. Thanks.

If I was going to buy a camera for wildlife photography right now based on everything I know I would get an R7 and the 100-500 lens. I like it just a little bit better than the a6700. I like the Sony quite a bit as well and shoot with it often but I believe the R7 is my favorite. I really like the new Nikon 180-600 as well but they don’t have a camera that I like cheaper than the Z8. Canon will release their 200-800 in a couple of weeks and it will make a crop sensor camera less of a necessity. That lens might be really nice with the reasonably priced R8.
@hervedelnorte7928
@hervedelnorte7928 7 ай бұрын
Thanks very much Phil! I’ll take it that you do not recommend going with a Z6ii at this date. I came close to getting the R7 when it first came out but held off for possible Z6ii upgrade or a nice APSC Nikon option. Do you like the Canon R6ii? Yes the a6700 seems to have some nice features for sure. This certainly is a tricky decision considering lenses and all.

Hey Phil! How are you liking the combo of the A6700 with the Sony 200-600? Just picked up an A6700 and ordered the Sony 200-600 because I’m curious to see how it handles compared to my RF 100-500.

@@PhilThach really? I’ve never really been sold on that R7 with 100-500 combo. I just use my r5 with the 100-500. I’ve always been curious about the 200-600 lens though so I will give it a try. Already have the RF 200-800 on order so this can hold me off until 12/14. Thanks so much for your insight!
