Comprehensive *STABILIZATION* comparison is available here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nKmmedeFmsDLk5s.html I have decided to *remove walking stabilisation samples* from this video. Sony A7 IV performed better in that test which was done at 20mm with Active mode on Sony and E-Stabilization on Panasonic. In subsequent testing, I have found out that Panasonic performs significantly better in walking tests from 24mm upwards. Whilst the samples in the video correctly showed the performance at 20mm, they were not representative of the overall walking stabilisation performance, which is why I have decided to remove the whole section about walking stabilization. The situation around the stabilisation is very nuanced and the conclusion may differ significantly based on the testing methodology, so I will make a separate stabilisation comparison next week. Sorry about that, thank you for understanding.

@@angeloplayforone Well, it is good that it is being discussed, because nobody shows the "whole picture". Those who only compared the IBIS by walking at 35mm + and came to the conclusion that S5 II IBIS universally destroys A7 IV in any situation are just as wrong, so thinking about the testing methodology would be much more useful than saying that I am worng. What I showed still stands, it is just not the whole picture, which is why I will have to make separate video.

Amen! My last camera was a canon 6d mk ii. It had 45 AF points all in the middle of the frame and managed a lousy 1-2fps burst if you wanted to use the dual pixel in live view. It had 1080 up to 60p which was fairly soft. The crazy thing is, it's only a 5 year old camera and debuted for $1999. My next camera is the s5ii, just waiting for it to arrive. What a time to be alive.

@@DesertCookie okay, I have the original S5 which uses the exact same flip out screen and I looked up a video about the Sony's screen and yes, they are both identical fully articulating screens. He even talks about that in this video, so I'm confused about that comment. The Panasonic's is just newer so the screen is much nicer, but yeah, if that "4-way" screen is a deciding factor for anyone, then yes the S5II has the same thing.

Excellent review and comparison. I started in video with the Panasonic GH5. From there, I went to the BMPCC4K. And then to the Sony A7IV. I sold that to get the FX30, since I mainly focus on filmmaking. Now, Panasonic releases the S5ii and soon the S5iix. Personally, I've always preferred Panasonic skin tones. So, I am seriously considering picking up the S5iix. The S5iix is coming in May, so I'm not sure if I will keep the FX30 and get the S5iix, or sell the FX30 to get the S5iix. Either way, the S5iix is a serious consideration for me. Not having to tweak the skin tones in post would be a great time saver. But, who knows. That being said, I've also been looking at the Canon C70. Mainly for its cinema tools like internal ND's and audio recording capabilities. Plus, Canon also captures good skin tones. The price of the S5iix will be a factor in that decision. It is a tough one. I'm trying to stay with one camera system if possible. But, cinema features like recording with Shutter Angle, raw recording, 6K recording are major factors. I look forward to your in-depth review of the S5iix when it is released. Cheers.

You can get a paid Catalyst version which can do all of them at once, but it costs like $16 a month. The good thing about Catalyst is also it converts from s-log3 to Rec 709 at the same time, too.

Thanks for your great video! If Panasonic had released all of the features in the S5II in the first generation, I probably would not have gone to the Sony A7IV/A7sIII. They are both very nice though. Given the GH6 is a great camera as well, the Panasonic ecosystem is a little more friendly to video imho. A Panasonic trio of the S1H/S5 & GH6 is a great kit for hybrid shooting with a slant towards video.
@TheHybridShooter
@TheHybridShooter Жыл бұрын
My pleasure! In this alternate history scenario, Sony would have probably released next-gen technology one generation earlier as well :) S5 II X will mostly make the S1H obsolete, GH6 output is unfortunately sub-par by today's standards, so the S5 II X should be the only one that you need.

Panasonic look very interesting ! My experience with sony a74 with f/1.4 I usualy have 1 not perfect focus on 40/50 shots (walking person, not running :P ) so for me is amazing. After your video if I will be more focus on video I think panasonic will be amazing , for all-purpose work sony is very good (not amazing, for example 4/50-60 crop... why?... :( , or evf etc. ), but price of a7r5 is ... expensive. My theory that I believe is true, and have tested on my GH5 with 1080p is that the 4:2:2 is better at holding detail then higher resolutions do. But I have not hear anyone making this claim online and figure you might be interested in testing that yourself.

Do you feel that there is a realistic possibility that Panasonic will release a fullframe stacked 33+ sensor in another camera this year? I know that the X version of S5ii will be coming out in May, but that is still the same sensor as the s5ii. A fullframe stacked sensor camera from Panasonic with some more tweaking on the autofocus would then really give Sony a run for their money. We could all sit back in the grandstand seats (box seats) and cheer for our favorite camera as it came out of the gates running. Who knows, it might force Sony to get more serious about the next version of a Sony a7iv? Right? 😎😎

This is a nice review. One major thing to notice is that images between cameras are compared while they are taken with different lenses. The Sigma 24-70 DG DN 2.8 is noticably sharper than the Lumix S 24-105 f4 at all apertures. The images compared at 1:38 do not say anything about the aperture used (and I think that DC DN is a typo over there). If you use the same Sigma lens on L mount, you will see that the image quality of the S5 will improve. Nonetheless, I use my Lumix 24-105 f4 daily and I am really happy with the results. Contrast and lack of lens faults are more important than sharpness if you ask me. Furthermore, I prefer Panasonic's colour science over Sony's. If you want to have separate video controls on the Lumix S series, you have to get an S1.
@TheHybridShooter
@TheHybridShooter Жыл бұрын
24-105 is more than sufficiently sharp for 24 MP sensor in the center of the frame at F8. You are not going to get better resolution with Sigma in that kind of situation.
@darkknight8139
@darkknight8139 Жыл бұрын
@@TheHybridShooter At f8, that is true. At wider apertures, I disagree. I do not own this particular Sigma lens, but I have tested this lens on a Leica SL2. The Sigma gives sharper pictures at f4 than the 24-105. I also compared the 24-105 f4 and the Lumix 50mm S Pro 1.4, and compared them head to head on my Lumix S1. At f4, the 50mm prime easily wins on sharpness when compared to the 24-105 set to 50mm. Even on f/1.4, the 50mm beats the 24-105 with ease, also in the corners! I was blown away by the image quality of the S Pro 50mm 1.4. It performs the same as the Leica Summilux-SL 50mm 1.4, which I could hardly believe until I tested it myself... Still, sharpness is not the main thing in photography of course, and depending on what the images are used for, it doesn't make any difference. The 24-105 is indeed sharp enough in most cases.
@TheHybridShooter
@TheHybridShooter Жыл бұрын
That test is done at F8, all side-by-side images in this video as well, so we can agree that it is all right. I haven't tested the 24-105 comprehensively yet, so I can't comment on that. I have only checked that it provides maximal sharpness at F8 in the center for the purpose of that test.
