This video is simply going over the buttons, doors and menus on the Sony Alpha 1! This is to help those who have just purchased the Sony Alpha 1 learn their way around the camera body. The more you know, the less you will feel intimidated with the available features and settings! If you have any questions I didn't answer, please let me know in the comments below!
There are also photo/video examples shown from the camera.
Please forgive the minor areas where the audio is hollow, I didn't realize where my lav was located when recording...

Just Google Sony alpha 1 firmware and it should pop right up on the Sony site!

I would really appreciate it if you would recommend how you would set up the programmable buttons (for example, what would you have the C1 button control, and provide your thoughts for each programmable button) Thank you for your help, and for making this video. If your recommendations would be different for a landscape photographer and portrait photographer, those suggested configurations would be very helpful. Thank you!

When it comes to the custom buttons, there isn't anything I can specifically recommend as everyone shoots differently, and some prefer one setting over another. What I would recommend is go use the camera and when you find yourself wanting fast access to a setting, assign it to a custom button!

It depends on the processing power you want to use and how much you want to spend! This camera takes CFexpress Type A cards ( amzn.to/2WXvrm7 ) which are more archival and faster processing, or you can use UHS-II SD cards ( amzn.to/3n6pNZM ) which are fast enough to handle 4K video and the burst modes, but if you need more you will need the CFexpress Type A.

I have had my Sony Alpha 1 for 2 days now and found your video to be particularly helpful. I traded in my Nikon Z7 and 200-500 lens to afford the camera body and 200-600 lens. Today I went out for the first time to the local nature reserve which is on the coast and I couldn’t believe the speed of the auto focus. It’s awesome. I am without a PC at the moment and managed to download my photos to my I-phone but when I cropped the images the quality was very poor. I think it’s because I used M rather than H* for the photos. If I understand correctly from your video by selecting M my starting megapixel point is already significantly lower so I should use H*. I don’t want 30 frames a second all the time so can I programme them M to say 10 a second ? Sorry for all the questions. As I say, it’s an excellent video that’s so helpful for people like me. The M and H your referring to would be the speed in the continuous shooting in the drive menu. Those should not effect your image quality. Definitely check your image quality in the menu and if you are shooting JPG, make sure it is set to L for Large.

I just got an A1 and found you video very helpful to get general idea. I have several questions: 1) my C2 and Fn have no human/animal/bird eye option. It is Image quality setting in Fn instead. How can I change "image quality setting" into "face/eye subject" in the Fn or make it appears in C2? Currently, the C2 only show focus area. 2) I don't see shutter cover in my A1, which is important when changing lens. thank you in advance

If you would like to customize your custom buttons, go to your menu, toolbox tab, Operation Customize, Custom Key setting and set accordingly! As for the Shutter cover, you have to set your shutter to mechanical shutter mode.

I been trying to get rid of the flashing for in the view mode on complete black frames or where theres no detail it just flashes and i have been trying to figure how to turn that off. Where there is no flash at all and just a picture

This is due to the Zebra setting being on. Both the “Zebra Display” and “Zebra Level” settings can be found in the “Exposure/Color” menu tab under “6: Zebra Display", just make sure it is turned off and you will be good to go!

I am new to Sony. Just switched from Nikon. On the A1, I cannot figure how to change the focal point to single point and move it around. when i move my camera around the yard and try to focus on different subjects it goes from one square(not in center) to 10 point boxes on left right top bottom usually choosing what is nearest in foreground to focus on. I have watched videos looked through menu and can't figure out. Nikon is so different. I feel really stupid ha ha. any help appreciated. liked your video, Mary

Make sure the dial at the bottom of your mode dial is set to AF-S and in your quick menu/Fn button on the back, the second option from the left on top is your focus area, you can select flexible point to move your focus point around. It is an adjustment, it just takes some time :) let me know if you have any other questions!

You said, "only certain lenses will work" that's misleading. FYI just about any lens you can mount on this camera will work. Some AF lenses will work better than others.

At the time of recording, Sony announced only a specific list of lenses could take full advantage of the high end focusing features this camera offers. While, yes, you can put any E mount lens on this camera, you will be limited to what the body can offer you. If you are investing in this camera, the last thing you want to get frustrated with is the fact you are limited with your gear, especially for that cost.

Oh I completely agree, however, you would be very surprised working in a camera store seeing how many people invest in the most expensive model just to learn around it and not have to re invest in an upgrade later!

Ha I am one of the culprits. Just bought this as a present for my wife(wink wink it's a present for me too) then again I am a newbie as well even though I had a D7100. My reasoning for buying it is " I liked the tech they put into it and it's going to stay with me for another 10 years)
