Such a cool camera! Personally I think I’d rather get the a7siii since I like using viewfinders for photography, and the flip screen is set up a little better to not hit the mic jack compared to the the FX3. But both are great !! Still tempted to buy one too 😆

@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo Not yet. I own an a7S2 and a7R3, and at my job we use the Sony F55 and FS7. So it isn't quite on that cinema-level, but at this size and price point, the FX3 is closer to what I expected the a7SIII to be like!

Nice video, subbed! Technically the Sigma FP is the world's smallest cinema camera. I own both the FP and the FX3, and I got the Sony because of all of those ease of use features you mentioned. If I'm going solely for image quality, I pick up the FP. For everything else (which is 95% of the time), I'm grabbing my FX3.

great video thanks, Im quite new to real estate video, but photograph loads of it. Using EOS R. Toying with a more dedicated video camera purchase, wanting more DR is the main, do you miss having internal NDs of the C200? do you shoot with any variable ND filters for RE shoots? thanks

Hey! EOS R is great. I'm still using mine for everything at the moment uneless I need my C200 or need to rent something specific. I use the lens adapter with the VND built in for my EOS R for exteriors and for interview shoots which is pretty quick and easy! Sony a7siii or FX3 is definitely the best bet for Dynamic Range that I've tried if that's what you care most about. Still tempted to get one but need to sell off some of my gear before making any big purchases for now.

12 MP is more than enough for RE stills. I’m thinking A7Siii since I’ll use it on stills as well. EVF is nice in bright sun. I’ll use by my higher megapixel cameras for commercial non re work

I thought the photos I tested looked nice too (didn't even try bracketing) Editing will probably be faster too! I felt the same about the EVF since I do half and half photo/video too. But if you're all-video, it is really nice to have the fan + other body features. Have fun!

Yeah! Kinda weird especially since the screen is pretty small. I thought it should have had a cold shoe on top of the XLR part. 🤷♂️ The toggle being on top also wasn’t my favorite but I guess you don’t really need that.

Just come across your video. Great video man. Interesting you went for the FX3 I've the C70 especially as you already had a C200 and R. Any reason you went for it over the C70? We've also got a C200, R and Pocket 6K Pro however very tempted to switch to a FX3/A7siii or C70. Just can't decide which!

Very nice review Taylor, I think you nailed it. Have been doing RE videos since 2004 and have found one camera is never enough. Currently using the FX3, Blackmagic 6kpro, Nikon d850 for stills, and various GoPros for underwater pool shots etc.

Hard to tell! They’re both great. Probably the bm with RAW is a little more flexible though. I still like the FX3 better personally.

Hey! Personally yes. But for straight out of camera nice colors, HLG works pretty good and S Cinetone is cool! Very different looks but worth trying both to see what you like :) -TB

Fx3 for sure. I currently use a Canon C70 for everything though. Just personal preference :) there’s a lot of people using iPhones for RE Videos and Content all over the world.

@@visionhometours4487 Yeah, It's made primarily for video but it's pretty nice to have photos as an option too. The photos are still going to look more professional from the FX3 in most cases because of lenses / manual settings controls / etc. that you are able to take advantage of for creative control. When I was trying this one out I did some photos I really liked. Definitely not as good as an R5 or EOSR (45 & 30mp) but I'd think they're good enough for most real estate scenarios especially if you shoot HDR.

Good video,. Isf the camera is relatively simple to use? Is it a camera that can be used by people who aren't technically minded? Is it a camera that can be picked up, tuned on and still produce quality pictures and videos?

Not really unless you already know how to use a camera with manual settings and all. But once you know the basics it’s pretty simple to use any camera.

Awesome content as always. I m thinking about purchasing a Canon EOS R6 but Sony A&S iii is also looking good. I mainly shoot videos (interviews and real estate). What would you recommend??

Thanks! A7siii is definitely my favorite! I tried it after doing this video and liked it a bit better than the fx3 because the viewfinder is nice for photography, and using the flip screen for vlogging doesn't hit the mic cable (its set up a tiny bit different than fx3). If you're doing long interviews the fx3 might be the better choice since it's got the fans and you won't have to worry about overheating. R6 Definitely has overheating issues so might be an issue for interviews even though it's a great hybrid camera.

Great content once again thank you. Re: super 35, I have a Sony a7iii and quite sure it has super 35mm mode. I only shoot real estate and currently carry sigma 14-24mm 2.8 for all wides and a prime Sony zeiss 55mm 1.8 for all close up shots (which I do quite a few of).. but it’s a pain to keep changing lens and having to reset my ronin gimble, despite having the settings for both lenses saved.. Now looking into the Sony 16-35mm 2.8 and using super 35 to get the 50mm equivalent.. I shoot in 1080p so hope this does not lose video quality and also hope I won’t lose the nice bokah I get from current 55 prime.. finally and most importantly I hope I don’t miss the 14 and 15mm I current have access to with the sigma, which I only ever use for bathrooms to capture everything, for everything else it’s too wide for me anyway! If both work out I can have one lens for the whole shoot and fix gimble settings. It will speed up my shoot so much. Would appreciate your thoughts, I assume all the above is okay as you mentioned you use just one lens and your work looks amazing. Cheers, Gary

I think you might miss the wider lens and 1.8 for details if you’re already used to it ! But I normally use 16-35 & 50 1.2 and have no problems with the wide side of things but like the extra bokeh on details (but not totally necessary) Both are awesome options! Definitely faster though with one lens!

You’ve probably saved me out right buying it though, so thanks! By the way, Perhaps a new video idea for your viewers is your editing workflow in regards to storing data.. I use a new MacBook to edit from, then move everything to Dropbox, but I find accessing Dropbox files is long winded as I have to re download it, so I’m looking for a hard drive of some sort that would sit in between.. anyway just a thought as I’m sat here researching it all. Great idea! I use a Samsung t5 ssd (t7 is newer and better though) for projects I’m editing, then move them over to a LaCie rugged drive (cheaper) for long term storage + safety. And I just got a 10tb tower to switch things over to for long term.

Looking forward to your course! You discussed filming in 30 frames in the home and 60 frames outside. How do you setup your editing timeline when having multiple frame rates

Thanks!! I always use a 23.98fps timeline (or actual 24fps if I’m using my cinema camera that films that way) and convert the footage to the speed that the timeline is. So 30fps at 80%, 60fps at 40% for the best smooth playback! It works fine at 100% speed too, can just look a little bit too “digital” sometimes. Hope that made sense !

@@SotoUnit23 Thats an epic setup!! SO much to learn, always! Random Idea that might help from overloading too much info for you at once - Try just focusing on the basics and shooting something at 23.98fps in HLG color format. Might be good way to practice getting more smooth at the gimbal since you can't change anything in post, and will make editing a little simpler to get started since it will make everything straight forward (no changing frame rates, and footage is basically graded) After you see how that works out, add in 30fps and then add in 60fps or 120fps later. Another thing about the fx3 I might not have mentioned that will help is to try to only shoot at ISO 800 (daytime exteriors and well-lit interiors) and 12,800 (darker interiors & sunset) Those will get you the best dynamic range and cleanest image for both scenarios you'll be in a lot for real estate. Hope that helps!

Hey!! It’s still best for video as far as mirrorless goes for me. But I’d probably start with the Sony a7iv or Canon’s r6 If you’re wanting to do higher quality photos too

Yup! Unless you have no need for the xlr top handle or want to film yourself (then the a7siii is better) same image just a few different features.

Sure, A74 is a great photo camera (and it's a good hybrid). If you want higher resolution for your photos the a7r series is great too

I just bought this camera, waiting for it to come in... do you think that my current Sony Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm f/4 lens will still look good on it? I see so many of you guys using the G Master f/2.8, and I'm really wanting to get it soon, but I'm hoping that what I have right now will still look nice on this (seemingly) awesome camera. What do you think?

Yeah! That’s a great lens. IMO main reason to get 2.8 is it you’re filming people and want more subject separation. Otherwise for real estate f4 is great. Make sure to film at either ISO 640 or 12,800 for the cleanest image. Some of the in between ones get noisy! Let me know what you think once you get used to it! Epic camera

For video? Some people send editors proxies (low res copies) to speed things up and then share project files to pull up / export with full quality footage. Otherwise I’d go with top quality if you can :)

Just used the Sony provided lut from their site at around 90% and did the rest manually with Lumetri in Premiere

Boom. Caught a first. Lol. I'm hoping Sony comes out with an "s" or cinema camera in the aps-c line. Everybody is under the impression that the aps-c cameras are the gateway drug to full frame, so I don't know how much they want to push the pro side of pro-sumer past a6600

@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo budget and size primarily. I like your point about the 16-35 on super 35 mode, which is essentially an aps-c sensor size. Anthony Lipani had a lot of love for the clear image zoom on the fx3 as well for similar reasons.

Nice !!! I’m sure you know this but make sure to take some time to figure out / set up your custom buttons ! Makes it lots more intuitive :) For now I’m just shooting with my EOS R going minimal and seeing what I feel like I’m missing to go from there (if anything!) Might have to rent a few more cameras to really decide !! 😆

I've started doing video a lot more, and Im curious, how often are you messing with white balance when shooting video? Do you have GO-TO Kelvin's for each situation?

Nice !! It depends. Usually 5600 for exteriors, 4800 for mixed light interiors, 7000 for sunsets usually work !

You are comparing a 3 year old camera with a few months old low mega pixel cinema camera, also in real estate you need pictures as well, plus canon colours are more realistic to me, yellow and or orange looks like how you see it I never see that with any other camera brand! I would have went the C70 direction as you already have eos r now you have to buy a Sony picture first camera but I must say it’s an impressive camera overall! Sony is killin it as well

Great points! I was aiming it toward someone who doesn’t have a high end camera yet. C70 would be amazing too if you’re just doing video. Would love to try one out to see the dynamic range!

Super 35 looses resolution. No good for video. Only clear image zoom is ok. Even that looses a bit I resolution

Thanks for sharing! Definitely depends on the type of project. I thought for Real Estate, the 1080p from the FX3 still looked nice ! :)

@@TaylorBrownPhotoVideo also, I could be wrong as I’m still waiting for my FX3 to arrive, but I’m pretty sure you can’t do super 35 mode while in 4K. Because the 10MP video crops below the 8MP needed for 4k. So if someone would primarily want 4K video, this wouldn’t be technique that you could use.
