finally a REAL filmmaker that knows value and the true meaning of the camera, I'm a little tired of hearing that the new FX30 is a "cheap budget" option that'll do the job as a B or C camera for those who have the FF models and its a good option for those who don't have the money for FF, it is absolutely not the case and thank you for being honest, I personally order one because I wanted to finally invest in the Sony ecosystem, I've used almost all the APSC line of cameras and FF options like A7III, A7IV and A7SIII, all good cameras from Sony, but my main workhorse is the GH6 (I've owned plenty of cameras, including FF but I really like MFT, specially Lumix), the IQ is on par with FF options, but I'm excited for this new camera because I like its form factor, I myself have years in this field and understand that sensor size is not something relevant to filmmaking, great video man !

Ayy! Thank you man ! Honestly the FX30 being it’s price is a godsend for so many people . And this is coming from Someone whose used the higher end stuff , this for someone making $1000-$3000 and maybe a bit above (which is an awesome living in slot of places) won’t only love this camera, but can do a ton of work with it . I just got a little offput that these people who are blessed to afford tech that’s 2-4x as much condescend on something. Cheaper, where most haven’t even used it yet , it’s a great camera for 2022-2023 beyond , and I’ll enjoy it in my kit 😁

The original Arri Alexa is Super35- the newest Arri 35 is alsoSuper35 (But with a 17+DR sensor - and a price point of $75K ) - so being Super35 does NOT make a camera a 'toy' or uncinematic! There are lots of reasons why the Alexa produces incredible images- and being Super35 does not seem to be an issue!!!

I've started filming a web series with my FX30. And it is definitely an A cam for my needs. The 6K sensor downsampled to 4K does show in the footage. It's a great camera.

Guess what people? Arri Alexas were S35 (except plus, studio and 65) until 2018, which includes the original mini. Also, S35 came out in the 80s, a ton of classics movies and franchises were shot in S35. So saying s35 sized sensor is unprofessional is an unprofessional view of the format.

Your channel is quickly convincing me to buy an FX30 as a film-only camera, haha. I'm a photographer wanting to get into more video work and the a7iii, while I love it and will 100% keep it as my main photography cam, just doesn't quite have all the capabilities for 4K that would be ideal. Great videos!

The ecosystem is something that is not mention very often but it is very important. The fact that you can use the FX30 standalone or with you FX6/FX9/FX3 is huge. You are not wasting your money, there is no compromise. You an FX30 plus a couple of APSC fast primes, for the price of a FF B cam.

I feel like most people don’t think ecosystems based on the idea maybe not everyone is in freelance video production, where if you’re just making personal content , it doesn’t matter as much , but if you do video for a living , it’s a huge factor especially cause lord knows I hate having multiple lens sets 😂

As a daily uploader myself I can't spend a lot of time messing around with color grading, so I (and I'm sure many other short-form creators) probably could use some direction. Just an idea though! Can't wait to get mine (pre-ordered and no sign of shipping yet...)! I think it is amusing when I see some dismiss this camera as 'amateur/prosumer' simply because it is Super35 and not FF sensor... The Arri Alexa did pretty well for itself as a Super35 - and the newest Arri camera- with their newest custom sensor - is also a Super35 ( and $75K ). Certainly the Arri sensors are superior (the newest with a DR of 17 stops!) - but my point is that Super35 is NOT a toy production format. The FX30 with a reported 14+ stops of DR is not bad (rolling shutter a bit of an issue with an estimated sensor readout time of around 15ms - not terrible but not great).

I ordered one from the US and it had exactly what your had in the box. I ordered one from Japan a while back and in that compartment that was empty on your is a small power brick that the usb plugs into and another cable that goes into the other side of the brick and runs to the wall. Much faster at charging. Wonder why they give different chargers at such different speeds around the world.

Honestly I was saving up for the fx30 cause I WANTED to shoot in super 35 and not full frame. I’m tired of people thinking Full frame is everything.

Thanks, Kofi, great review. Have you had a chance to play with GH6? How is FX30 compared to GH6? I'm starting from scratch, so I don't have any lenses or cameras (just sold my fuji x-t2). I played with GH6 recently and I was blown away by the features it delivers. I pre-ordered my fx30 some time ago, but now I'm hesitating if it's a really good choice for someone who is willing to start a filmmaking journey or GH6 would be a better choice. Thanks!

@@KofiYeboah one more question Kofi, if you had ~US$1.5k to spend on lenses right now, would you consider buying 24GM 1.4 first (I really like 20-24mm focal length for video) and then one by one buy some other lenses when you have money? Or 20mm 1.8 is as good as 24mm? (+ you can buy 56mm sigma 1.4 + 11mm sony 1.8).

Kofi - I was looking to buy the FX30 with the 20mm dg dn F2 sigma, because I liked the smaller size of that lens. Do you think this is a wise purchase or should I go for the Sony 20mm F1.8.

I’m about to be in the market for a new camera. The fx30 is a solid b or c cam. But for an A cam, would it be worth it to get the fx6 now? Or should I wait til the next version comes out? The FX6 has been out for 2 years already so I want to make sure I’m current when I purchase my next camera
