pretty great review. I plan to get this camera thanks to your review. huge credits for that. I want to get it for holidays, sports photo sea (kitesurfing), to zoom capabilities is key :) I'm wondering if I should get the stock Compact NEX 6B + 16-50 + 55-210 mm (both NEX lens) or get another combo (naked NEX6 + other lenses) ? Yes if you are asking if you can use the remote view finder of the nex camera on your cell (Samsung galaxy works great for me).

Great comparison as always. IMO i think the NEX-6 is a better buy over the 5R because of 3 main features: 1.EVF - It costs up to 350$ if you want to buy it seperately for the 5N/5R 2.Hotshoe - The 5R/5N/6 all suffer from the lack of an audio input so external audio will be neccessary for pro's. Having a hotshoe to mount these accessories is a major plus. 3.Mode Dial - Amazed how much more i love this feature than i initially thought. Great for switching on the fly and less menu diving a la 5R

Of all the Sony NEX series cameras would you recommend for using to record video of stage shows where there is low lighting and would be dealing with bass levels from the onstage music?

On the NEX-6 & NEX-7 - is there a way to turn off the IR sensor for the viewfinder? I can't see the light meter in the viewfinder anyway, so I'd use the LCD most of the time. As such, I don't want it to flip between the EVF & LCD at random (considering how sensitive it is).

I bought the 5R around 2 weeks ago with the PZ lens from an online merchant here in our country (Philippines) for around $750. I'm not sure how they acquired this kit since it isn't being offered yet with most (if not all) other merchants like Amazon etc. I've thought about purchasing the NEX 6 because of the flash hotshoe and the mode dial but I decided to purchase the 5R and purchase the Sony f1.8 50mm prime lens with the amount of money that I saved instead.

Durability wise would you prefer the additional cost of the NEX6 over the NEX5R? I was planning on getting one basically to accompany me on my travels as I'm also planning on replacing my dslr.. :)

the current NEX 5R all offer the 16-50mm lens instead of the 18-55mm and i would like to know is the 16-50mm a better lens compare to the 18-55mm ? i've read some of the review saying that the power zoom lens is not as good as the former lens

have both 5n and NEX7 - need hot shoe so 5r out - love IQ of NEX7 and the 24mp as one can really crop images. Why does Sony not put more FN buttons and wheels like say Lumix GX1 for example - 6 FN's 1 better than nothing but 2-5 a must. like to update 5n - so should I wait for NEX-7r or get 6? Just wish 6 had a control wheel - Any idea when 7r will come out? 7r with touch screen and apps and phase detect focus would be nice. I hope new menu system to :) but please more fn's not other gripe

Nice detailed review of the cameras, but please don't go into the scientific part, the kit lens camera is pretty soft around the corners at the widest end wide open(F3.5) because its a small pancake lens which is harder to make cheap and good than a normal size zoom lens and because it's a first generation, maybe, of there it will be, a second gen optics could get better performance, but for its use as a compact zoom lens it does its job well, if you want quality you can get a prime lens.

Nex6 if that is your concern. It is superior (especially) in terms of build quality.

Continued: The main difference ofc, being the megapixels between the 6 and 7. The funny part about that is that the Nex-6 is better in low light because of that. It can be argued (and it has been argued alot) that that many mpixels in a sensor this size almost do more wrong than right. I'm not saying the 7 is a bad camera, it's not, obviously. But here in Sweden these cameras are almost the same prize, and in my opinion the Nex-6 is definately the better buy! (i've owned both, sold my Nex-7).

And theres phase detection af in the nex 6

Continued (again..): Also, i was suprised to find that some of the apps on there now are actually really nice! But nothing totally groundbreaking, ofc. Also, speaking of mpixels. I prefer the Nex-6 sensor over the 7 one. Both great cameras ofc! As a last note, it's not plastic on top, you can clearly see, in the video, that it's metal. Although you didn't say it was plastic, you said it felt a bit plastic. Well, i don't agree ;-) Great review of both cameras! Keep up the good work!

Nex6 or Nikon d3300??

To be honest. The Nex-6 is basically a better camera than the Nex-7. The AF is better ofc, and what the reviewer doesn't mention (maybe because he owns a 7), is that because of that the low light AF in the Nex-6 is alot better compared to the Nex-7. Also, the Wi-Fi is great when out taking pics, since you can transfer the photos directly over wi-fi to your phone/tablet. Also, the appstore can continue to add functionality to the camera through apps long into the future.

The only thing that keeps me from buying Sony cameras is there very high prices across the board. I do understand that the camera frames are made from aviation grade titanium like in the world's fastest plane, the Black Bird and that the glass in their lenses is made from silicon mined on the moon. But why Sony? WHY? "Oh, you want that proprietary 3" Sony USB cable that looks like it will fit any camera but won't? That will be $38,000 because we make them from endangered White Rhino umbilical cords and the metal inside comes from the 1947 Rosell saucer crash in New Mexico. Yes, we got there first and grabbed it all up and didn't tell the military."
