The Fuji X Summit mentioned a "before June" release date for the GFX 100S, and it's actually pretty small (relatively speaking). You know it's your ultimate work camera (Moe can use the Sony!) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jZ2We9aEtK3Rhnk.html P.S. 3:50 Show Manny how to switch aperture control to one of the command dials ;) P.P.S. Agree, Sony is really going hard these days on KZfaq with their paid "reviews". It's a truly astonishing case-study both for marketing and for human psychology what Sony is doing currently. "I bought the new Sony because of 4K, IBIS, Eye-AF, lightweight" etc etc, you all know that. Robots reading up the specheets, and pulling down great photography cameras. I am SO GLAD that Manny did not start it in this video. You get gigantic plus point for that, everyone should follow your example for keeping real. I hope you will get more lucky with the lights in your next shoots.

Manny! Glad to see you checking out the XT3! A quick note, you can set the shutter speed dial to "T" and set your ISO dial to "A" and then in your button & dial settings menu set the "A" on the iso dial to your front command dial. This means you can adjust your shutter and ISO fully on the command dials. I shoot weddings with Fuji so this is a game changer.

Fuji X-T3 is such an awesome camera. I picked it up in early December. I have an A9 and A73 and I must say the X-T3 is incredible. First off, it’s a feel good and nice looking camera. I love it more and more each day. The jpegs are beautiful, the lenses for the Fuji system are sharp and reasonably priced. Even the kit lens that comes with the X-T3 has amazing quality! For the price, and what it offers in photo and video...this camera is a no brainer. I had to add this to my set. Oh and it absolutely makes me excited to take pictures lol

Don't forget that one of the real positive aspects of owning a Fuji is that the are constantly upgrading the firmware of the camera. The fact that lots of reviewers had mentioned how much Fuji cameras improve after their release dates was one of the reasons I bought the XT-3.

James Howard-White definitely compared to Nikon/Canon. Would you say they update more than Sony? I’ve had two firmware updates and a new one coming soon to get the new features their latest cameras have. I thought that was pretty impressive. I absolutely love their tethering software for my laptop and remote control app on my phone too! As a tech guy I appreciate that Sony’s are computers that have a camera added to them instead of a camera with a computer added :)

Only works up to a point though. Many lenses have an unmarked aperture ring, so you still get that (for me) awkward control on the lens but not additional info out of it. I much prefer a top display for a quick look at my settings. Granted, the camera needs to be on, but everything is in one place not all over the camera. Plus physical dials prevent the camera from doing intelligent stuff, like resetting your exposure compensation if you turn the camera off (which is a life saver for me). So I get that love/hate relationship, I loved those dials if I had time to setup a shot, like on a tripod. Hated it when I quickly wanted to switch something.
@tomscott4438
@tomscott4438 5 жыл бұрын
@@alexanderhetzel8271 It all depends on the individual and what they are used to. I came from film and have always been more comfortable shooting in full-manual mode. As a result, I am used to making these adjustments and after a while it becomes second nature. Fuji have designed their cameras for someone who likes to slow down, take their time, compose the shot, and enjoy the experience of photography not just the resulting images.

same with aperture ring. and exposure comp. the dials are nice, but sometimes you just need the speed of the command dials, like shooting a wedding. so his automatic vs. "stick" shift analogy breaks down... the Fuji is more like a dual clutch, paddleshifted car that's able to alternate between both.

You should’ve set up your XT3 for run-and-gun shooting. It lets you control the ISO and Shutter Speed through the front and rear click wheels. You never have to take your eye off the EVF. You can see exposure preview in real time, faster than with any other camera.

It took me a while to absolutely love the xt2 because of the worms..... The secret for LR sharpening is use the DETAIL slider not the AMOUNT like you would on pretty much any other brand camera.... Once I learnt that simple difference I'm all in FUJIFILM!
@vinhsanity
@vinhsanity 5 жыл бұрын
You can map the shutter and ISO to the dials. Also, you can get the iridient plugin for LR which will give you a raw editor that was designed for the x trans sensor. I was a Nikon D750 shooter. Then I bought the XT1 as a crop body loved it despite the quirks. Then I tried the original A7 but didn't like it and the Fuji XT2 released and I got that one. Then the A7III released and I shot with that a ton, but once the XT3 released the Sony gear hasn't left the shelf, so I sold it. Eye AF on Sony is unmatched. Fuji is getting closer, but Sony still has the comfy lead. One day when I need the resolution I'll probably go to the A7RIII but I've yet to have a commercial client tell me that I didn't give them a file with enough resolution... But after shooting on film I started in digital with the D200 a "professional" crop 10.2MP body. Great review, if you used the camera for a month I think you'd definitely replace the Sony crop bodies with Fuji.

I've been a Nikon shooter but last year I purchased the X-H1 to add to my D750s and D500s. I've used it to shoot weddings, portraits, college/professional sports, travel, and concerts. You are absolutely right when it comes to making you want to shoot. And the lens quality from the kit to the primes are perfect combinations. Thank you, Manny for giving Fujifilm a fair shake and objective review unlike Fro who just likes to poop on Fujifilm. I actually started using Lumiar for editing as well.

I was a Canon shooter for years and bought a fuji X100T. It was so fun to shoot I actually used it on actual projects for clients and it did fantastic. I was still shooting film when I got my Fuji, so my hands naturally felt very comfortable holding the camera, but I can totally understand accidentally bumping some of the dials and rings if you aren't used it it. You're right, the way to get the most out of a Fuji is in Capture One, and the learning curve is steep. Once you learn it though, it's so powerful that it kinda make LR look childish.

I am using two systems. Nikon FF and Fujifilm I have 2 x X-T3's and used them for the first time for my last three shoots for ELLE and STYLE magazines and am so pleased with the results! I only shoot RAW, however. Capture One Pro makes the images shine. Don't process in ACR, do it in Capture One. For all other cameras, Lightroom is fine. PS..my Fujifilms are an X-T2 Graphite version, X-H1, X-T20 and 2 x X-T3's a 16mm f/1.4, 23mm f/1.4, 35mm f/1.4, 56mm f/1.2, 90mm f/2.0, 2 x 18-55's one for video and the other in case I need them for still while the video is being shot and the 50-140 f/2.8 and battery grips on all but the X-T20. Nikon is 2 D800's D800e, D810 and the 24mm f/2.8, 35mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8, 135mm f/2.0, 180mm f/2.8, 300mm f/2.8 and the 24-120 zoom...and the grips of course. A great honest review from someone who uses gear for a living! I switched to Fuji from Nikon FF it was purely as I was getting older (65) and needed lighter kit. I found the exact same issues with Lightroom and couldn't get used to Capture One it simply was not for me! ....I cured the Lightroom issues by configuring Lightroom to Zero for all sharpening and noise reduction and using a plugin for dng conversion (Iridient XTransformer) which is done within Lightroom so there was not much to add to my workflow. Lightroom is by nature built for the conventional bayer sensor and not for Fuji's Xtrans thingy. At the beginning I was committed to making it work which admittedly was a pain in the arse! but now no issue at all. I do miss my full frame gear but the image quality from APS-C in Fuji was great (as you say not all APS-C are equal) and I've got used to the nobs and dials thingy but all In all happy. Looked at Sony as well but there was so much that I wouldn't use e.g the fast focus system and the like. Anyway great review Manny looking forward to more ;-)

I've been a Fuji shooter for over 5 years now (way back with the S-L-O-W X-Pro1) and you're 100% right about muscle memory. I actually find it a very intuitive way to shoot now. As for processing, I tried Capture 1, didn't like the interface, so switched back to LR. Here's the thing, though, for most of the shots I give from a wedding, I'm using the JPEGs shot in-camera, with very little work needing done to them. As long as you nail exposure (which shouldn't be too hard with an EVF), white balance and have a film simulation set which suits your style, there's not much to be done to them. The few times I'll edit a RAW file these days is when the lighting gets tricky, or for my WOW shots using off-camera flash, as these are usually the shots which will be enlarged. Anyhoo, great review, Manny :)

Today I looked at two videographers, one explicitly showing side by side between the xt4 and the sony a6600, and the skin tones in the sony a6600 looked horrible-yellow green/flat, whereas the xt4 skin tones were pink/warm/wonderful. Let us know if you've spotted any of these issues. Thanks so much!

There are almost 900 comments here, so I'm sure someone already covered it, but to address a couple of you cons: 1. DIALS: You don't have to use the top dials. You can set the front and rear command dials to control F. and S.S. (just like every other DSLR) so you never have to take your eye away from the viewfinder. 2. EYE AF: The 56mm f/1.2 is a big chunk of glass, and one of Fuji's slowest focusing lenses. Beautiful. But slow. So naturally, Eye AF isn't going to be as responsive. And it doesn't have I.S., so you have to slow down to get the magic out of that lens. I will freely admit the Sony beats the pants off of Fuji in the AF department, but Fuji is still capable of doing everything I need it to do.
@pennyfan13
@pennyfan13 5 жыл бұрын
You can simply use Iridient X Transformer (as stand alone or as addon) to demosaic Fiji Raw and stick with Lightroom. About the Eye AF, Fuji will release a firmware update that improves Eye AF accuracy and speed soon. I made total switch from Sony to Fuji, big money and weight save plus they are good enough for both pro and personal works, I do miss 42mp sometime but not a big deal.

Excellent video/review Manny. I agree with you not wanting to change your LR workflow. You can get good results from LR with Fuji files. You need to turn the detail slider to 0. Then you can sharpen to 70-100 if you like... The detail slider mainly sharpens edges of an image and works best with Bayer sensors with aa filters. The results are not quite as good as C1, but unless you are pixel peeping at 100% you will not notice the difference.

Manny!!! Thank you for the honest comparison. I tell my Sony buddies it's a matter of preference. The Sony technology is BANANAS and everyone is chasing them. I praise Sony for being so disruptive in the industry. It made so many new camera features possible that we were told previously could not be done or was two years down the road on Canon and Nikon's roadmap. Had the XT-3 not come out I would no doubt be shooting with an A7r. But the Fuji color science and ergonomics talk to my heart and as you correctly stated... Makes me want to shoot every day, rain or shine. Lastly, you are absolutely correct regarding LR. I love the Adobe interface, workflow and mobile apps BUT if you shoot Fuji you have to use C1 to get the correct raw conversion. So I am currently stuck with both a Phase One and Adobe monthly subscription because I can not UNSEE the difference. The new LR February update has a tech preview of their artifact improvement for xtrans sensors. I 🙏🏾 pray it's the fix I am waiting for. I would be very interested in your opinion of C1's raw processing of Sony files and thank you both inspiring and representing. David Art

Manny...The dials aren't too bad, but the whole Fuji X lineup is fully customizable. I realize it's hard to know/get into a custom setup on a trial run, but you don't need to rely on the dials. I utilize the thumb wheels for ISO, and shutter speed. Makes the process super quick. That said though...I shoot more than portraits. For landscapes or long exposures the dials are very handy for subtle adjustments. I got my Fuji last year after being a Sony user. Two fantastic brands. I have a Fuji XE-3 too and it's so small and light its unbeatable for the punch it packs. Love the videos. Keep 'em coming. Cheers.

If you shoot Fuji and use the latest version of Lightroom, there is in the Photo menu an option called "Enhance Details". My understanding is that this was added for the Fuji raw files which, depending on your subject, can enhance the image. (some foliage can have that waxy/wormy look if you zoom way in on it) However, there are a couple of issues to be aware of so you probably shouldn't use it on all shots, plus not all shots benefit from it. Depending on your computer, it can take a fair amount of time to render the image. It will also create a file that is several times larger than the original raw file. I don't use it often, but on those images that can benefit from it, I can see a difference.

Hey Manny, you mentioned the dials. I personally just put the shutter dial on T and use the rear dial to change shutter speed. So basically like any other camera. I do however, think the the ISO dial is a wonderful addition, so I am not fumbling around for a button on the back of a camera, aka Nikon. This does mean I have immediate control over the 3 exposure factors. Thank you for your honest view of the X-T3. Lastly you may just want to take a little time to test CaptureOne Pro.
