We review the Sony XH95 (also marketed as the Bravia X950H in the USA) 4K LED LCD TV, which features full-array local dimming direct-lit LED backlighting, X1 Ultimate video processor, X-Motion Clarity black zonal insertion system, X-Wide Angle tech, HDR support for HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision but not HDR10+, upgraded Acoustic Multi-Audio sound, as well as Android 9.0 Pie Smart TV platform.
Our XH9505 review sample is the 55-inch Sony KD-55XH9505, model number KD55XH9505BU which is the UK 3-pin-plug version.
Note that at 5:35, we purposely drove the backlight higher and filmed off-axis for the purpose of counting the number of local dimming zones. Blooming was less apparent in real-world actual viewing.

Forgot to mention in the video that due to the viewing angle compensation film, occasionally there'd be rainbow reflections when light hits the screen at a certain angle. Not easy to capture the phenomenon, but here's a photo: imgur.com/a/ulL2THe

Thank you Vincent, been eagerly waiting on this review. Looking to upgrade my 55HX853. I believe the blacks on that are 0.06cm2, so this should still be an upgrade for me in that sense. Especially coming from 16 zone edge local dimming which I still find really impressive! Thanks again.

Excellent video as always! I personally am very sad to see the days of higher zone counts disappearing and while I enjoy the X950H I still feel it's very similar to the X950G and the lack of Hdmi2.1 is a shame as it clearly would have separated itself from the 950g and 900f which is also still available. Awesome work as always and I'm truly thankful for your content and all the hard work you do. Thank you!

@@PSYCHOV3N0M yes it does however this particular set does not and this is the 4k flagship and if the 900h with hdmi2.1 can match the 950h in picture quality then what would the purpose be of the 950h? So therefore if the 900h cannot match the 950h in terms of picture quality yet has the desired features of a flagship I personally find that to be a little backwards. In short having Hdmi2.1 on the lesser set (900h) doesn't really help the fact that this flagship doesn't have it and in fact actually hurts it.

I bought the 49" version and I couldn't be happier with it, Sony get a lot of stick for their operating system being slow but with this new chipset (on all there models for 2020) I feel they have got it spot on now! So quick and the app variety is endless... Was going to wait for the 48" OLED but I'm impatient 🤣

I’m trading in a Samsung q90t for the x950h. Something is seriously wrong with Samsung’s motion this year, I can’t stand it. Frame drops when watching sports at random times and no amount of changing settings fixes it. Should’ve listened to my gut and went with the Sony the first time around....

@@Pencil-Eating when you say motion is great, is there any judder at all? Or is it smooth? And also, how is blooming? Barely noticeable or distracting?
@Pencil-Eating
@Pencil-Eating 3 жыл бұрын
@@dmarable79 The motion is great because you can almost eliminate judder and blur without introducing the soap opera effect or significantly darkening the picture. Blooming is worse than the Q90t, but I prefer Sony’s approach of preserving highlights at the expense of some blooming, rather than other brands darkening highlights to reduce blooming. The blooming is noticeable during certain times but not distracting. And I would rather deal with a little blooming than lose image brightness.

As always, awesome review!! Thank you for that! One question though. For picture accuracy in regards of HDR content, does the X-tended dynamic range option need to be set to high? And is this also valid for the game mode, since on xg95 it seems that HDR-games looked more accurate when switching the option completely off. For movies high seemed to be the best option. But is it accurate or does it falsify the image?

Hello Vincent, thank you for another excellent review. I am looking for a new mid range (£500 - £1200) Sony TV but as Sony release too many midrange models (in my opinion) it is difficult to decide which to choose. For instance what is the technical difference between the Sony XH81, XH85, XH90, XH91 and XH95 models other than screen size? I don't find the Sony website very helpful at all and I think many of us Sony fans would appreciate a video explaining the differences between the models and reviews of the individual models. I myself am looking at the XH95 and XH91 models which I see available for £1200 (for the XH95) and £1000 for the XH91. I see the XH91 is available from 43 inches in size and the XH95 is available from 49 inche but how do they perform against each other and what do I get for the extra £200 in the XH95? I hope you can hep those of us struggling to make a decision on what model to buy. Thank you.

I'm happy to hear the x-wide angle has been improved and less intrusive. One thing I like about old Samsung is it can swivel. So this will help allow us to watch in our wider living room without swivel. Obviously everything else will blow the old Samsung out of the water. Our old sony broke 3.5 years into a 5 year warranty, Sony offered us a full refund, we are going to order this tv. For me, I dont have the luxury of waiting for HDMI 2.1 to become more mainstream, and to be honest I can't see it being essential for some years yet. So until then this will do just fine. I have weighed up several options but Sony were so good with us and I prefer Sony's more accurate colours over the pop and vibrant colours of competitors.

Finally someone that sees the facts for what it is. 4K@120FPS on even high end GPUs is not even happening, so what makes people think that they'll get 120FPS in native 4K on a gaming console that cost 1/2 - 1/4 of the price of a high end GPU alone? Sony and Microsoft did not just magically create a GPU that is more powerful than RTX 3090 and RX 6900XT, and then decided to put it in a $500 console.

I’m already looking forward to it. Great viewing angles, best processing in the industry but still a good black level. Screw samsung this year. I’m not even worried about hdmi 2.1. LG did the exact right thing to just use tech that is actually necessary to get the best out of the panel without bringing up extra costs just to have the higher bandwidth on paper. This might be one of the reasons why they could lower the prices of their OLEDs once again but added other great features like FreeSync. The LG CX will most likely be the best TV this year if you at least also game on it a little. With the BX being the perfect more budget friendly alternative. If you don‘t need FreeSync the C9 or B9 might still be great as well. What Sony brings to the table regarding dimming zones in their flagship LCD is pretty disappointing. I agree that they have some advantages in terms of processing but overall a Q90R from last year will still outperform all Sony LCDs due to dramatically better higher amount of dimming zones. That Samsung reduced the dimming zones on their 4k models this year is pretty disappointing as well so I‘d either go for a Q90R or the full 8k 950TS which is sadly pretty overpriced since it‘s still the beginning of 8k. Not the best decision by Samsung. My choice will be the LG CX especially because of G-Sync for me as a PC gamer.
