yeah it's hard to not notice it and i'm only 2 minutes in, he's been doing this a long time, been following him (and lok) since their digital rev days and surprised they haven't got the filming nailed by now, but let's be honest, we're here because we want to know the information, i guess it almost doesn't matter how nice the video is, but the filming is getting very lazy where it's starting to become distracting to the content, but that's me over analysing it, i can still live with it

I think if I can get this phone in an unlocked version, 100% this will be my next phone. I had a Panasonic DMC-CM1 and I absolutely loved it. The battery sucked and it eventually stopped working, but the photos it took from a smartphone from back in that day were amazing. Specifically long exposure night shots. OMG so good

I had it too and loved it to bits. It had overheating issues which slowed it down to the point where it became unusable so I reluctantly sold it. If they came out with a tweaked V.2 I would get it in an instant.

Got mine a few days ago, unlocked. The 50mm lens didn't work at first but an update fixed that. There was another update the next day, but I don't know what that was for. I installed it but didn't notice any difference. Probably introduced a bug in the first update. Camera works well, all as expected. Video looks monster - but I don't do much of that. The shutter button is a bit of a pain at the moment, I keep hitting it by accident and turn the camera on. Should be able to adjust in time - just a muscle memory thing. Only dislike is the fingerprint reader, it's slow and too easy to force into timeout (wait 30 secs) if you touch it with anything other than registered fingers. Overall though, I'd say it's very good but a bit overpriced. Still glad I got it. It's the perfect backup of the backup if you're into Alpha cameras (which I am).

I think it hurts Sony a bit when they send out these phones with limits like pre-final firmware and lens access restrictions etc. You’d assume it would perform nicely, but that can’t even be sampled. That’s unfortunate.

While from a tech consumer standpoint it is a let down that it doesn't utilize the full 1"-type sensor, this is a rather smart business decision by Sony to reallocate sensors that were originally destined for the RX 100 to be utilized into the generally more accessible smart phone market. Given that Sony is already stopping production on several lenses and cameras during the great silicon shortage of 2021, this gives Sony a means to dip into an existing supply of sensors, which could not have been sold with rx 100's, preventing the need to R&D a new sensor, manufacture it, while still providing an upgrade of sensor technology relative to their smart phone sensors. Though I'm not sure if the larger pixel pitch would necessarily result in better low light performance than a sensor with the same size, as ideally, the same amount of photons would be captured. Better signal to noise performance would likely be achieved via more efficient capture due to better sensor technology, which is the case when observing their A7S III vs A7R III Food for thought, at least there could be slightly larger crop from lower aspect ratios, 16:9 or 21:9, which would be great for video (though maybe their DSP may only be capable of scaling specific sensor read out resolutions) Also, the silver lining of the crop is that, the OIS is given much more room to stabilize footage

Buddy, I have a RX100 M6 and also an M1. I would like to know if there is much difference in image quality in the final result between the Xperia and the RX100. I was going to trade my RX100 m6 for a ZV1 because of low light, but I'm thinking about getting XPERIA if the quality isn't too different. I don't need a zoom, just the same clarity and sharpness that I had on the RX100 M1. I would appreciate if we can chat a little more about this.

I guess if you carrying a dedicated camera (be it DSLR or compact camera), you'll have to up your effort by bringing a device that do only photography and do it excellently. Most cameras aren't connected to any internet, so most photos are kept inside. By carrying a camera i have my mindset at "ever searching sumting to photo" which dn the long run can get fatiguing. Carrying a smartphone with decent camera gives you less burden to carry a separate camera. Of course the quality of the photo won't get to the point and shoot camera. But you carry it all the time. I'll have always a chace to photo sumting interresting since I have the camera phone. That is my experience.

The problem is that using a bigger sensor only gets an ISO advantage unless used like e.g. the RX100 series with bigger optics. And in good light, I don't think anyone could tell the difference between a regular sensor and the 1". So in a phone all it really does is improve the night photography somewhat. And to me the price of the phone increases to the point that I would rather have a cheaper phone and get an RX100III or something for the pocket that has better light gathering, a real zoom and a viewfinder.

Was genuinely really tempted to preorder this. This video saved me from the buyer’s remorse.

@Tessoro Desoto Yep, the Sony reminds me of my DSLR, in fact when you get it dialled in it gets pretty damn close, but is just as unforgiving when you don’t. Everyone has got used to being able to point their phone into the sun almost and still get a decent shot because of all the computational stuff.

If they could make a phone camera with dual native iso I will be amazed. The 1-inch sensor won't make any sense while the lens can't cover it. There should be more updates for already existing technology. Bokeh AI in the video is amazing, not perfect but it's all about fine-tuning. What I want to see in 2 years in smartphone cameras: - min. dual native iso - faster lenses (wide-angle, 5x telephoto) - improved bokeh ai in the video - less artificial sharpening - better quality codecs with more bitrate and 10bit - log profile - dgo sensors

Most phones that used Samsung Sensors have Dual Native ISO i.e. Xiaomi phones, Samsung phones (of course) and others but it's not advertised well

Loooking at this i think the xperia 1iii is a better buy. This video is more of an infomercial on the Panasonic S5 camera being pants and not good for youtubers. (my Nikon z6 (older than the S5 by almost 2 years smashes this for stability and focus and colour))
