In this video I give my honest thoughts of using the Sony ZV-E1 after 3 months of use. This camera has a lot of features other cameras don't have in the Sony line up that are more expensive. Sony really did give this camera as much as they could within such a small camera body. This did come with a few issues because of this.
Overall they have done a brilliant job. This camera has its target market and really swinging high for the price.

Hello, please help if possible. Sony ZV e1 does not have a slot for a CFexpress card, is there any quality difference in recording 4k 120 fps in XAVC-S I 4k 1200M 4:2:2 10 bit in a7sIII and 4k 120fps for ZV E1 in XAVC S 4k 280M 4:2:2 10 bit

I’ve personally found that the pros of this camera outweigh the cons. I own an fx9 & 6 and use the zv e1 as a b cam and it’s fantastic. Super light on a gimbal or slider but great handheld with dynamic or active dynamic stabilisation. Very very nice camera, love it!!

I am too thinking of getting this camera for gimbal work as my main camera gets too heavy. May I know, how long are your burst shoots with it? I primarily am looking at it for B-roll content for IG reels for a client. So my burst shoots are usually 3-5 minutes of content of a tenant store and then walking to another one in mall and was just wondering if it could handle something like this, as in place where I live, we don't really have a return policy :/

Used it on a recent day out, handheld for hours with the ecm-b1m and the form factor was amazing. Camera did get a tad warm but never overheated on me, filming short clips at a time. Find myself switching between photo and video modes way too often and programming settings within a button does helps a lot. It's definitely not for everyone but for what it does, it sure does it very well.

❤ Great video, and I tell you that after the firmware update it seems to me that it doesn't heat up as much as before. A week ago I did some shooting in the jungle at 34 degrees, left it attached to a branch with the gorillaz and continued with the other camera for a Broll. After an hour the video camera was still there, hot, but it kept filming. Fantastic Sony battery, in short, as expected, a very good video camera the ZV E1 Sony! Thanks bye

I have the a7iii for photography and have been using the ZV-E1 for the past month. I am loving it so far. The video looks so good and now we have 4k 120. I originally thought about upgrading to the a7iv instead of the ZV but I wanted the a7siii/FX3 sensor. So far the ZV-E1 looks cleaner in low light compared to my friends a7iv. The ZV also seems to have better color/skin tones than the a7iv. So I chose the ZV-E1 over the a7iv due to the cleaner low light performance, 4k 60/120, colors and the stability options.

@rocknflip66 I use my Sigma Art 35mm 1.4 for the majority of my videos but I just picked up the Viltrox 16mm 1.8 and it is really nice. Highly recommend that lens so far. If you put the ZV-E1 into Dynamic Active stability it ends up around 24mm with the 16. Really smooth video.

@rocknflip66 also if you don't already have a photography camera then I personally would go for the A7iv. I have the A7iii and Nikon D610 for photography. I use the ZV-E1 for video only. It's sort of my ghetto FX3 lol.

This was literally the same situation I am in. I love me A7iii but I really don't like to mess with gimbals. How does the video quality look compared to the video on the a7iii? I want the iV but the dynamic stabilization is what I need, so I can just pick it up and go. So many times my iii is so shaky even after post. I have a guy selling his for 1750 I think I might just grab that then

Admittedly, I've been looking at the Panasonic S5iix as a potential next step in upgrading my gear. But, considering that I have the FX30, the ZV-E1 is a better move since I could use the same lenses I already have. I do have some APS-C lenses, but I also have a couple full frame Sony lenses. You mentioned that you don't shoot long shots, and I don't either as a filmmaker. So, the overheating would most likely not be an issue for me as well. Thank you for this update. It really helps.

I film pro wrestling shows for some of the biggest players on the west coast. Every promotion asks me to record in 1080p and has no interest in 4k. Events are usually 3 hours straight with a 10 min break in the middle. When using 1080p this camera has NEVER even shown me the heat icon and the 1080p out of this camera looks amazing. We are often dealing with super harsh lighting conditions and I am cranking this thing to 16,000 iso regularly. The footage looks insane, the autofocus never misses, and a whole show is usually only 1.5 batteries. Over the last year I have used the FX3, A7Siii, A74, R6, R5 thoroughly at events and for what I do the ZV-E1 has by far been my favorite camera. My only con is the miniHDMI port, mine was super loose before I ever even tried to use it and honestly it keeps me from using my Atomos, but this has built in LUTs so I don’t need the monitor and my rig has been bumped much less since I took it off. My A74 is still my photo camera but if I know I’m only doing video the ZV-E1 is what I bring.

Great video! Got a used Canon 5D mark ii + magic lantern for the very few full frame shots I need. Don't want to invest in something new atm since I do so very little work where I really need a full frame. The ZV E-1 might be the camera for every situation, though. Especially since it can be used without a gimbal + a lightweight APS-C lens.

The update for 4k120 is already available. It is not a firmware update but a file that need to be installed through th sdcard in the camera to be granted access

intended for vloggers? i disagree. its marketed towards vloggers but over 80% of buyers of this camera are not vloggers, i know because i sell them. anyone choosing a camera needs to buy for what they intend to shoot. understand that its not for long shoots over 10 minutes.. thats about it..

I'd really love your opinion on this! I've got an A7IV but these days I'm going all in on video creating and my biggest issue with my content is the camera shakes. I'm thinking of switching my A7IV for a ZV-E1. Here in Korea I can sell my A7IV second-hand for pretty much the exact cost of a brand new ZV-E1. Do you think it'd be a good idea? Nikon Z8 is unbeatable for atleast a decade with the 8k/60fps in camera RAW in the rock solid weather proof body. If I had money and needed a pro camera then I wouldn't think twice. But I am looking for a smaller and lighter travel friendly camera so considering the ZV-E1 and waiting for the next Nikon smaller body (Z5/Z6 series) with 10 bit video. The resolution of 12MP in the ZV-E1 is very low for me since I will also be using the camera for the photography.

Thank you for making this video, I have a Sony A7iii and wanted to get something that can shoot 4k 60 since A7IV doesn't do that in full frame, i was looking into ZV E1. My only concern is the photography part. Is it good enough to take good photos? and since i live in Oman with temperature going up-to 50C, do you think it can manage? but yes we wont be doing long shoot at this temperature but will it have any issues recording?

I like the photos it produces, I plan to make a video about that myself. I haven't blown any up beyond my 34" monitor, so large prints will still be better with a higher megapixel count, but it's only been 10-15 years of that mattering for even the most famous pros.

It depends on what videos you watch, whether you love it or not 😂. Many who say it's not worth it have an fx3 or a7siii and think about buying this camera, because obviously even I would tell you that it's not worth it. But right now I have an a7iii and I want 10 bit, slog3, and 4k in slow motion and go from not having it to having it and saving me 2k the truth is that it makes me think about it.

As for the warm-up... we go back to the same thing, it depends on how you use the camera (there will be situations) but I don't think it will heat up in 3 minutes as some say 😂, if it is true that if you use 4K 120p in a row, you will surely get out faster. But if you watch all the review videos, everyone doesn't recommend it for warm-up, because obviously if you do interviews or you have to be recording 40 minutes or 1 hour in a row, of course it's not your camera because you risk getting hot. But if you make plans of 30-40 seconds, even shorter or longer, I think you won't have any problems.

After venting a little 😂, I will talk to two close friends still to see their opinion, but as a camera that has the same quality as an fx3/a7siii for 2k less, I personally think it's worth it, and my plan is to buy this camera, use its resources and wait for the launch of the a7siv (if it is launched )Because the a7siii today, they are not going to update it anymore, so to leave me 3k and have a 3-year-old camera (which I do not say is bad) and that it is not going to be updated, it would hurt to leave me more money than the zve1 costs (this in my case) (if you need a camera to record long then go for the a7siii or other camera ) but I think that for the use I'm going to give it, it's perfect for me until they release a newer camera with better specifications

they won't update the A7SIII from what I believe. It definitely is worth getting the ZV-E1 unless you need some of the features the FX3 offers.

Hey mate with my A6400 i get focus pulsing in the background when in AF-C. Ive tried changing the focus speed to slow, normal but this doesnt change anything - do you have any solves?

Most likely you subject isn’t as illuminated as the background. With the older focus systems this scene struggles a lot and there is high contrast or dark scenes

Any issues with photography using the ZV-E1 due to the electronic shutter? Banding? Strange bokeh? Have you used it with any off camera flash?

@@JasonMorrisphotocinema what about the A7CII with the lack of full mechanical shutter? There has been some discussion about potential bokeh issues at high shutter speeds with fast lenses wide open. Have you noticed any issues with bokeh on the A7CII or A7CR? Or on your A7IV do you notice a difference in bokeh if you turn off EFCS or go full electronic?

As a A7S3 Owner I make 50% Photo 50% video and nobody complains about resolution of my work. And I print my photos in medium and big sizes (make panoramas for big prints) in this days for social media nobody gonna notice your A7R5 resolution on the TikTok’s and Reels where today is the most exposure for our work. Tomorrow I don’t know.

Sony should give us open gate so the crop won't be so obvious. as it's cropping from 3:2 instead of 16:9

I have a feeling, Sony won’t be giving open gate for this generation of camera based on the way they hold back feature updates for older cameras. They’ll probably would want to make a big deal about it whenever they release an A7s4.

Had it, loved it, but sold it. It just wasn't for me. It is not a replacement to the FX3 unless your primary goal is vlogging. If that's your intended use, which is this cams intended use, nothing is better though.

If this feature set is a sign of things to come in Sony cameras, I cant wait for the A7V. As a hybrid shooter I need the megapixels. If they give us uncropped 4k120 and dynamic stabilization in A7V, Im all in. I still want this camera though, amazing feature set on Zve1.
