What is the perfect budget camera for KZfaq?
The Sony ZVE10 might be the best camera for the price.
In this video I am comparing the Sony ZVE10 to the Sony A74 to show that in most tripod shooting environments, it's really hard to even see a difference between these two cameras.
The ZV-E10 is a really good camera for youtube. Wether youre in a studio, a shop or using it for Green Screen.
Links to the cameras:

Having watched many other comparisons between the ZV E10 and FF cameras over 3x the price it is rare to see differences in terms of image quality, with exception of low light (though the small Sony does better than most folks will need). It is a great camera (just don’t walk and talk unless you want to use catalyst browse) and probably all anyone needs for KZfaq. Great video…lots of energy! Loved the space background!

I bought two of these for my upstart video production company for making social media commercials for local businesses. My clients absolutely love the videos. I have a 16mm and 30mm Sigma lens F1.4 lens, and even use the stock lens outside in natural light sometimes. Amazing footage, and now that I see it compared to Sony A7IV, I am perfectly comfortable staying put considering what my workflow consists of. Depending on what you do, there can be a point of diminishing returns on the money you spend for “more expensive just because it has more features. Thank you! Your content is great, perspective is great, and I can watch your channel in my home with my little ones running around. Not many creators left who consider that anymore! I appreciate you man!! I have a ZVE10 and have used the higher-end Alphas too and let me tell you, with my Sigma 1.4 lens I get MORE THAN ENOUGH buttery bokeh, but still have a mirrorless camera that absolutely slaps. I chucked a Tiffen Glimmerglass filter on and the results can only be described as dreamy. It's an incredible piece of kit for the price, and I love that it's not massive.

Just bought the Sony zv1f for a beginner camera as I only have experience with the GoPro’s. Very impressed with the video quality and the blurred background effect. Awesome little camera for recording on the go and lightweight. My iPhone storage is always full or else I’d use that. Looking to upgrade to zv-10 later this year 💯 great video!

Probably the most high quality video I've seen from a 103(+1) subscribers channel at the time of filming ;). I'm by no means an authority on cameras, but I want to say this to people looking to get into the world of KZfaq and cameras: 1. The Sony ZV-E10 might be the best budget 4k camera available, so if that's what you're looking for; don't overthink it. If you don't need interchangeable lenses, the Sony ZV-1 is a great alternative. 2. Buy used lenses. I've purchased most of my lenses second-hand, giving me virtually the same quality as a new one, but with a good discount. 3. Know that the camera won't do the work for you. I've been capturing most of my content with a smartphone, and while a dedicated camera makes the process easier and the results better, the creative process is still similar - and there are so many more important things than the camera filming the content.

I totally agree for Sony users and studio use for recording you tube on tripod, the ZV-E10 is sufficient and does a great job. That said its main competitors are the very good Nikon Z30 and Canon R10 in the same price range. Other brand users could go with these if they use existing lenses they have. New buyers may go with the excellent Sony ZV-E10 and use either Sony native lenses or the excellent Sigma primes, best being Sigma 16mm f1.4 for Sony E mount for studio use. Great video review!

Great video Nic and exactly what I was looking for. For nearly 10 years I have been using the latest iPhone, whichever model has been current, this makes for a very easy work flow, audio is synced with video etc, so all I have to do is shoot, airdrop to ipad edit and upload and I am really reluctant to trade this workflow, but.... Bokeh, just looks so much more professional. Fortunately people have watched my videos based on what I do and not so much for production values I have always prided myself on decent sound but now I feel it's time to improve. Do you feel this would tick all the boxes for the type of videos I do ? Keep up the great work Nic. Also wondered if you do consultations. Would love to get your feedback on a few things ?
@NicholasJamesJohnson
@NicholasJamesJohnson Жыл бұрын
The iPhone WOULD make all of this easy - and its 4k and the audio is pretty good, but yes, you could DEFINITELY step up the production value by going with a mirrorless camera, a boom mic right on top of the camera - since it looks like youre sitting only a few feet from it and a nice, probably 30mm f/1.4 lens for what youre doing. Your lighting looks good, the sound in that room doesnt seem to bounce around too much, and if you used an on-camera mic - like the rode video micro 2 on the cheaper end, or the rode videomic NTG on the higher end, you could pretty much cap out your overall production quality... Also, Id be happy to answer some questions about whatever things! feel free to send me an email at iamnicholasjamesjohnson@gmail.com

Hey man. Great video. You are clearly a pro, so hopefully can help me with something. I was pressed by time and budget to buy a camera fast to make some product review videos. I had my eyes on the zv e10 since while but the one that I ordered had no lens. So I ordered the ttartisan 50mm f1.2.. the cheapest I could find with good reviews. Now, I've only seen this for photos hooting.. portraits and stuff, but no review for youtube.. like studio filming.. product review. Do you think I made a bad decision? Or this combo can be ok for what I intent to do
@NicholasJamesJohnson
@NicholasJamesJohnson Жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure that lens is a manual focus lens. Which, especially at 1.2, would make it extremely hard to use for video of any kind. If you move half an inch, everything is out of focus at that aperture. You would have been better off with the Sony 50mm 1.8 ‘standard’ lens. Or even better the OSS version of the 50mm 1.8
@TheArtmann
@TheArtmann Жыл бұрын
@Nicholas James Johnson yes, it's manual focus. unfortunately those other two lens are way out of my budget at the moment. But I will keep the camera on a desk arm and the products will always stay on the desktop. It will always be pretty much the same distance. Of course some b-roll here and there. I will not be in the frame... no talking head or something like that. Just desktop view. Do you think it will be better in this case?
@NicholasJamesJohnson
@NicholasJamesJohnson Жыл бұрын
@@TheArtmann Oh, if youre not going to be in the shot and the camera isnt going to move, then yes. You'll be able to make it work. But it will be more work than having a lens with autofocus. This should get you started though, so yes!

What lens would you suggest for nice Bokeh with this camera, something that is reasonably affordable ?
@NicholasJamesJohnson
@NicholasJamesJohnson Жыл бұрын
a 50mm f/1.8 is going to be both the most affordable and produce an incredible looking picture at 1.8. But, it would change the way you shoot - I see that you appear to be just a couple feet in front of the camera, and with a 50mm, in order to get your whole upper body, with the guitar and everything in frame, youd need to back it up probably 6-10 feet or so, which would THEN change how you capture audio because you'd want to match your newly nice looking picture with perfect sound, so then you'd be looking at something like the rode wireless go II microphones which can just clip on to your shirt or your strap and get the sound super close to the source, which would step that up as well.. OR, choice number 2 would be the 30mm f/1.4 from sigma. That would allow you to get closer and not change too much the way you shoot from how you do now. You WILL need a microphone, though, the onboard mic from literally any camera, no matter how nice the camera, is not sufficient for pro-sound.
@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons

I have an FX3 which I prefer to use, but bought a zve10 as well, which is sort of a baby FX3. The reason I own it is that I can go anywhere with it and it never looks like I am doing anything for distribution. Which is very helpful for urban work. Like, its white. It looks like a tourist's spring break Barbie Purse camera. Ain't nobody taking that seriously and ain't nobody mugging someone for a white camera. Takes a pretty decent video.

Both the 4.2.2 and the 10-bit color of the A7IV should perform better for chromakey (green screen) than the 4.2.0 and 8-bit color of the ZV-E10. The only question is whether it is $1,500+ better performance. Depending on what type of chromakeying you are doing and how convincing you need it to be, then yes it very well could easily be worth the extra money. Just my 2 cents…

What’s going on? Love the video, but I did have a question. I’ve read a lot about the VZ-e10 having overheating issues when recording videos for more than say an hour. Have you noticed it overheating when using for long periods of time. I’m wondering bc I will be starting up a bbq channel in the next 2 months. And again, love this video, very informative and I will be subscribing!! Thanks again
@NicholasJamesJohnson
@NicholasJamesJohnson Жыл бұрын
Well that would be tougher to test in this being the winter season; ambient temperature makes a HUGE difference in how fast these cameras overheat. But with a barBQ channel I can see your concerns. There are a few clever fixes: first one solves another problem of long recording and that’s battery life; if you use a dummy battery, the battery is what produces like 30% of the heat from the camera running so that will elongate the time before overheating. Also opening the screen, and third seems really funny, but actually does work, I did tests with my a7iv which also overheats; you can buy these little stick-on heat sinks on Amazon, super cheap, strangely effective! You’d open the screen and stick it right on the back of the camera when recording. Also stay away from sunlight and get the white version if it’s available.

Yes you absolutely can stream in 4k with extremely good quality. You'll need a thing called a 'camLink 4k' and thats true for the a7iv also - both cameras can also stream directly through USB but they limit the frame rate to 15fps at 4k. The camlink lets you stream the full resolution and quality.

Sensors are getting so good, finally.. and actually I think the sensor in the ZVE10 is the same one from the a6400, 6500 and 6600 so it’s not even very new. Imagine what they can even improve on let’s say ten years from now. They’re going to need to start adding the computational features that iPhones use to keep improving.

#154, I have been looking for a review on this matter for a while, but it seems when I watch others I just didn't get the answer or it wasn't explained as well as you did. sub and like from me thank you. Also, I like to hear your thoughts on the sony fx30 as well like is something like that overkill for just doing youtube content or not? Thanks again

Well, coming from the guy who uses an a7iv AND and a7siii to make KZfaq vids, I can’t say I believe there is an overkill!! Welcome, and for sure, I’ll take a closer look at the fx30- I’m actually not all-together that familiar with it.

Great video. Subscriber #118 here :) - Nicholas, I currently use the ZV-e10 with the kit lens. I want to be able to shoot video for sporting events...I have no stabilization and can be blurry when players are moving quickly. Should I get a better camera or can you recommend a lens with stabilization??? Thanks!
@NicholasJamesJohnson
@NicholasJamesJohnson Жыл бұрын
Depending on how far away you are from the action, I’d suggest the Sigma 18-300 DC OS or sigma 150-600 OS With sigma lenses the ‘OS’ means optical stabilization. With Sony the lens name will have ‘oss’ optical steady shot.

Sony 70-350 G is also a good middle ground. 350 gets you pretty far. Mind the aperture though.

You probably film in 4k and it can only be done in 25 or 30 fps. zve10 is good for studio and bipod. For sports or vlogging I would buy a camera that can film 4k 60fps and your footage will be much better in movements.
@NicholasJamesJohnson
@NicholasJamesJohnson Жыл бұрын
Also since it has no in-body stabilization, if you’re using a lens that also has no stabilization, no human on the planet can hold the camera steady enough if it’s even a little telephoto to make good footage.

@@NicholasJamesJohnson If Sony builds in the stabilization that a gopro or a dji action has, then it is the perfect camera. For now, I'm filming with the zve10 on a gimbal or stabilizing cinematics with sony catalyst browse.

What do you mean by “better photos?” Is that camera a higher resolution? The ‘goodness’ of a photo starts with the photographer unless you’re comparing a very small sensor to a very large one. Also, no one should ever use built in mics for anything other than syncing audio.
@wakeywarrior
@wakeywarrior Жыл бұрын
@@NicholasJamesJohnson better photos as in the photo experience is better and the jpegs are better. The microphone is so good on the Z30 (best of any camera on the market) it is good to use. I have an external mic and don’t bother connecting it up. This isn’t for studio work, professional KZfaqr setting but using for Vlogging or travel etc. Yes if you want to do fully professional videos you wouldn’t use it but for most use cases it is actually passable. I don’t consider the one on the ZV E10 is. I forgot to mention the kit lens is better on the Z30 as well, but no doubt you’ll tell me no one should be using kit lenses!

@@pankajmandal522 Autofocus isn’t quite as good as Sony (I also have Z1) but much, much better than a LUMIX G6/9 (I have a G9). It is good and good enough. Battery backups I am not sure what you mean- battery length? Not sure, but I have a couple of batteries and have had no issues.

Haha, oh there’s no question the a7iv is a better camera, and anything beyond a glance you’ll see it looks better. It’s just a surprise how it’s barely better in a tripod situation. Take them both out for night time street photography and the a7iv is about 75x better! You definitely made the right choice as long as you can still eat and pay your rent!:)

@NicholasJamesJohnson Жыл бұрын
Huh, how about that! I just went down a rabbit hole because of this and it turns out people say that word a whole mess of different ways! Since the word is Japanese, they pronounce it even differently, still.. But then again, they would pronounce my own name “Neek” instead of “Nick” so I would chalk this one up to regional dialect. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j5Zypclj0Z69o5c.html

@@NicholasJamesJohnson okuh then. there are working professionals that create youtube videos with proper content than youtubers pretending to be professionals. in asia we would read your name as neek but wouldn't keep calling you neek after hearing you say it. so if you want to keep going with it excusing yourself, then cool. professionals at least have the respect of where a word comes from and it shows.

@@pagpapaitim Like I said, I looked it up, and youre (obviously) right about the pronunciation.. I'll make an effort to say it the correct way going forward. I was really liking the content of your video, but I had to cut it short and leave because you cut out all your breaths which makes you speak unnaturally fast, and that was just too alien for me to continue putting up with. So your content was great, but your delivery was poor, and this viewer couldn't stay and watch it all. Just some feedback for you to ponder.
@NicholasJamesJohnson
@NicholasJamesJohnson Жыл бұрын
Feedback appreciated.. I sometimes feel the opposite way when I’m watching videos where it sounds like one side of a conversation and there are a lot of pauses. Dramatic pauses, or pauses for humor make sense, or breaks for story telling and impact.. But when delivering information, for me, personally, I prefer the ‘j-cut,’ which is what you were hearing here, where one sentence starts as the previous one is still ending. It brings a ten minute video down to about 8 minutes in the edit and is meant to waste less time. But i have heard before, and again with you, now, that it’s not everyone’s favorite delivery when it comes to an edit.
@weldersandblaster
@weldersandblaster Жыл бұрын
@@NicholasJamesJohnson When your face to face with a person and listening to them talk, does it bother you when they pause for a breath? Probably not. We grew up that way, and it's our normal and things we are not used to, can be strange, and strange can be uncomfortable/unpleasant. And furthermore, as handsome as you are, is not why I came here. You have knowledge and I want that knowledge. TRANSLATION, I want to learn. TRANSLATION, I need to focus on the message you're delivering. But instead I'm distracted with the delivery. TRANSLATION, it's difficult for me to absorb what you are saying, because of how you were saying. Additionally, I need time to hear, to consider, to absorb, to learn, to retain it by locking it in memory. Your pauses are necessary to give me time to absorb and learn. (and hopefully without distraction) With you speaking so fast, I REALLY don't have enough time to absorb it and lock it into my memory. Speak slowly enough that the uneducated, like me, can learn the content you are presenting. Otherwise, us idiots have no reason to come here and watch you. Early in the video I decided you were highly skilled and educated, and it made me want to hear your message. Why did you make this video? So we could sit here and admire you? I doubt it. Because you want to share your knowledge? Ask yourself, how fast do I have to talk before they can no longer gain knowledge from what I’m saying? You know, that point does exist. But where exactly is it? You're very smart. Think about it. Find that answer. Grow that new nugget of knowledge and steer your future by it. You don't just whip the camera around and snap the shutter. You have a reason for everything you do. Because B causes Z, and G causes D. You design your actions to acquire a specif gain/outcome. Because you considered it long enough to know. You drive carefully, slowly, intentionally, and obtain the result in your sights.
