PS; Once upon a time when I was a food/restaurant/hospitality/wine/spirits writer and editor, I was asked to JUDGE a "Cooking With SPAM" contest at the Los Angeles County Fair. The BEST recipe (and yeah, a lot of them WERE awful) was a very clever idea. A woman took the "hickory smoke flavor" SPAM and cut it in thin little "chip" slices--sort of Frito's sized--and put them in a food DEHYDRATOR and made them pretty close to crisp! She then mixed them with nuts and dried fruits to create a hickory SPAM "trail mix" and it was truly delicious!

For everyone going nutso over the 'correct' reason that SPAM is called SPAM... Forget it. Nobody really knows. How do I know this? Because Hormel (They own the trademark on SPAM) used to say it was for "Shoulder of Pork And haM" but they recently changed it to "Spiced Ham" and the name wasn't even meant to BE an ancronym in the first place... So those are both backronyms and wrong anyway. Some guy came up with the name, and that is what they named it. THE END.
