You are definitely one of the better KZfaq spark channels I've come across. Check those CEF invoices though, especially on bigger jobs where things may "accidentally" slip onto the invoice that you never bought.

Hi great video as always very informative thank you I appreciate the effort just a few things, why was the water bonded? did it enter back into the ground after the instal? as i was tought (and i know you didnt do this) never to bond like this as you are pottentially bringing in a danger especially with PME that does not need to be there what is your opinion on removing the bonding cable for the water if you can see that it has not enetered back into the ground? and secondly if you could show the ev test on the tester that would really help me anyway thx

Point to note... The miniature Fusebox RCBOs (and many other miniatures) do indeed disconnect the N as well as the L conductor, however it is only the L that is actually 'protected'. The N is merely switched. The 'tall' RCBOs do not switch the N. Also I believe that all/most EV chargers have PEN-fault protection built in, so the L-N-E/CPC are all disconnected together in case of any fault condition. Expert Electrical, who distribute the FuseBox brand (hand in the Manchester area as you can call in to their trade counter) also distribute EVEC EV chargers - budget end of the brands, but so far I've had no problems with them, and the APP works well.

Does anyone actually check WiFi strength where the Zappi is going to be installed? If you use a physical hub, you don't need to, but my battery inverters are right next to my Zappi in my garage and I had to install a WiFi booster to be able to talk to it remotely. Presumably if I'd been using the Vhub, I'd also have struggled.

Regarding the ct, can you cut off the excess cable, if not why not? Can it be placed anywhere on the Phase incomer providing the arrow is pointing the correct way? Thanks
@sotaelectrical
@sotaelectrical 7 ай бұрын
You can cut the excess off the CT but I don’t incase they move house, take the charger with them and the CT needs to be longer at the new address, I have moved a lot of chargers now from house to house and have had this problem before, personal preference, the CT must be after the meter and before and Henley block

7:14 Just wanted some clarification for this bit. You say that it doesn't work well with DC battery systems, but there is no such thing as an AC battery system. The battery will always be DC, and the inverter will always convert it to AC, so any CT would go on the AC side of the inverter. Did you mean that with transformerless inverters, there is a DC offset from the inverter that will blind the CT, as with type AC RCD's? I'm guessing that's the case, and if so, it's always worth checking to see if it is a transformerless inverter, cause my Victron specifically states because of the isolation provided by the transformer, there is no DC on the AC side of the inverter. Thanks for the videos :).
@sotaelectrical
@sotaelectrical 2 ай бұрын
Hi mate, so what I meant was AC coupled battery systems where there is a new circuit fed from the consumer unit straight to the inverter

the advantage of using two pairs of the ethernet cable is if the client changes their internet supplier all they have to do is plug the ethernet into the new router no wifi to worry about.

Hi mate, great content as usual. Could I ask what you meant about battery storage hookup to Zappi? I understand about the AC/DC thing. If you were running from your battery backup, only solar would charge EV in the event of a power outage wouldn’t it? I’ve heard in the event of power outages even the solar drops out, so you only run purely on batts? Not sure if I’m explaining myself that well?! Any thoughts. (Having solar fitted and thinking of Tesla batts). Thanks. Paul.
@sotaelectrical
@sotaelectrical Ай бұрын
Hi mate what I mean is basically on the app you can see where the solar is going to, the car, grid or battery, I wouldn’t charge a car off the battery it would just dump it in no time, ye you are correct, if you have a power cut then the battery will operate essential circuits only if you have this incorporated in your installation, otherwise nothing works basically, hope that made sense!

Hi pal, just a quick question I had a client contact today asking about an existing submarine main supply to there garage. They have had an EV company round to survey for EV charger. They have been told that they do not need RCD protection? And also that the sun main is fine for 100amps 😂 unlikely. Now whenever I instal and EV charger I always supply via double pole type A rcbo regardless of the charger having and internal RCD. What is your opinion regs wise on omitting separate rcd and only relying on the RCD in EV charger. Thanks for the vids and info 👍👍
@sotaelectrical
@sotaelectrical 7 ай бұрын
Hi mate, unless they have a three phase supply to the property it is extremely unlikely that they have a 100A capacity to the garage, they probably saw a 100A main switch in the consumer unit and assumed they have a 100A supply 🤣 I also never rely on the integral RCD and with the EV chargers the exception being the project EV, there is no way for the customer to test the RCD quarterly as they can with an RCBO. If that was my job I would recommend the zappi, you can install a CT on the meter tails with a Harvi if you can’t hardwire it for your load management and a secondary CT in the garage consumer unit set to ‘monitor’ and limit it accordingly
@Bazza-tn5ck

Another thought: if the charger supply cable is clipped to the wall (i.e. not buried in walls) does it even need to be on an RCD? The charger has in-built RCD so is there a need to have RCD for the supply cable?
@sotaelectrical
@sotaelectrical 6 ай бұрын
@@3pointedshr yes, if you read the installer instructions for the Zappi it clearly states that the RCD does not comply with the regs and a Type A RCD must be installed upstream
