Sound and Vision - Transforming the National Science and Media Museum

Sound and Vision is a £6million project to build two significant new galleries at the National Science and Media Museum. The galleries, accompanied by a programme of activities, will showcase key objects and stories from our world-class collections of photography, film, television, animation, videogames and sound technologies.
Bradford is one of the UK’s youngest, most diverse and fastest-growing cities. As part of the Sound and Vision project, we’re working in close consultation with local communities to make the museum the cultural cornerstone as Bradford becomes UK City of Culture in 2025. Sound and Vision also complements the city’s ambitious culture strategy Culture is our Plan. and supports the wider region’s commitment to building a digital economy.
The galleries will open in winter 2024.

Oxford Dictionary definition of museum: a building in which objects of artistic, cultural, historical, or scientific interest are kept and shown to the public. Cambridge Dictionary definition of museum: a building where people can go to view works of art or objects of interest to science or history Collins Dictionary definition of a museum: a building where a large number of interesting and valuable objects, such as works of art or historical items, are kept, studied, and displayed to the public. Britannica Dictionary definition of museum: a building in which interesting and valuable things (such as paintings and sculptures or scientific or historical objects) are collected and shown to the public. The definition of a museum is of a building DISPLAYING interesting and valuable objects to the public. The 'Transformed' National Science and Media Museum will NOT be a museum, it will be a children's play area with endless 'interactive' exhibits and only the odd artifact displayed. A new Broadcast Engineering Museum is in the making at Hemswell Cliff, just north of Lincoln and will actually display vintage broadcast cameras, video recorders, outside broadcast vehicles and much more. Even now as it is still being put together, if you are interested in a 'proper' museum, it is a more worthwhile visit than the Science and Media "museum". For more details: becg.org.uk/

Encouraging children or people who aren't into looking at objects to get into sciences and media is a good thing

@@mowlamentum That is true and I wholeheartedly support that, but not to the detriment of those who desire to see the actual artifacts. By all means have an area for children with all the interactive displays that you want, but a museum is for DISPLAYING objects of artistic, cultural, historical, or scientific interest. What is the point of a museum with only "interactive displays" and no actual "things"? You might just as well sit at home and look at the internet.
