Sound Comparison: BOSS SY-200 Synthesizer vs. ELECTRO HARMONIX SUPEREGO + (Tone Demo)

4 ай бұрынToday we are comparing one specialist, the Electro Harmonix Superego Plus, and a multi-effect, the Boss SY-200 Synthesizer. One is kinda a one-trick-pony, the other one can do much more! How about the sound though?

I tend to prefer the sound of the EHX, as it seems to have less of that ‘Strymon-sheen’ thing going on that I don’t like … Do you feel they both track notes/poly as well as each other? 🤔

I hear you on the sheen (which I don't mind so much), but please note that the Boss has pretty powerfull tone and clarity options. So I feel you could dial these sounds down so they are more in the background (and lose the sheen). Tracking wise they both are awesome, no complaints there!

I would wire the sy-200 to the send/return of the SE+.

I kind of like more the EHX tone and mechanics (fades, glissando, tremolo / synth arpeggios, three button setup...) it seems more raw and uncooked from this side of the recording. However Boss has the better format, the superior product, somewhat expanded features, and MIDI!!. I hate the fact that I didn't consider the SY-200 in my deep math calculations before ordering the SuperEgo+ a week ago... Should I consider euthanasia instead? I am sorry, MIDDDIIII!!!!! Thanks for the demo @Miike, you got a new subscriber as you could have saved me from a life of regret looking down at my SuperEgo+, making him SuperInsecure+, and asking myself if he truly is my own child...

Hey mate, so my short answer to this is bascially: if you ONLY care about the freezing part, the EHX might be the better option. Yes, it sounds more natural out of the box, the gliss/fade-in knobs are SUPER helpful (there is no such thing on the Boss, so it always changes INSTANTLY, which doesn't sound very natural either). The Boss on the other hand has a lot of sounds if you want to really mess with or change your guitar tone. A lot of it sounds very cool, but admittingly there is stuff on there that doesn't sound good either. I mean, congrats, you absolutely bought the GOAT of freezing! 👍)The question is only if you use it enough to justify it's price or if you could have used the money to buy a synthesizer that ALSO...kinda...does freezing (but not as sophisticated as the Superego+) Let us know what you will do! 🙂

Hi! i want to ask, if it is possible to save your own settings in superego and then just run it while playing live? So I don't have to set everything up again. Thank you
