The first decimal series was a transitional series released in 1961 coinciding with South Africa leaving the common wealth and becoming an independent republic. The series includes the 1/2c, 1c, 2 1/2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c as well the gold R1 and R2 coins.
All the coins are relatively easy to come by with the only exception the 1961 full-ground cover 1c. This coin is extremely rare and worth in excess of R40,000.00! Only 20 are known. The mintage figures and values of all the other denominations in the series are covered in full.

Special thanks to my wonderful dad, Koot van Niekerk for allowing me the use of his 1st decimal collection in the video (mine is very incomplete!) He also introduced me to this hobby, so indirectly, all these videos are brought to you by him. Thanks dad!
