Don’t forget the WWII museum. It’s world class. The tourist areas of New Orleans don’t feel like a big city. While NoLa is large, there is generally not a need to go to the big city areas.

Do NOT stick your head or arms out of the streetcar windows. Trees and signposts are very close to the side of the car and will take your head off! New Orleans also has a world-class zoo in Audubon Park.

You should watch an episode of pitbulls and parolees. This show takes place in a dog rescue shelter/ center in Louisiana not too far away from New Orleans. Pitbull and parolees also has a shop that sells many items. The proceeds from the store goes to the shelter.

I have lived in and around New Orleans my entire life. Along with the Audubon Aquarium there is also a Audubon Zoo and the National WW 2 museum. Each one will take the better part of a day to see. The food is incredible everywhere but a little pricey in the French quarter.

If you’re feeling anxious about NOLA, my best advice would be to first take a walk around the French Quarter in peace early in the morning. The city really livens up at late afternoon and at night with huge crowds. They shut down the streets to foot traffic on the weekends as well to squeeze in more people because the streets are REALLY narrow, but most people are hungover by the morning so for an early stroll, you’ll have free reign of the city. Majority of NOLA’s people are really friendly though, and most people really just want to have a good time. I’ve never been where I didn’t leave happy and full!

Jono, this would have been a great video with your family. 1) pralines are easy to make if y'all have pecan in Slovakia. We have a brand called Community coffee that has chicory. We have Cafe Au Lait which is half chicory coffee and half steamed milk. New Orleans food is just as good as Texas BBQ, but more variety. We have fresh seafood write out of the Gulf of Mexico. 2) the French Market is a tourist trap. I can email you a list of family fun things without getting ripped off, but it's nice to browse around and look. 3) when walking through the French Quarter, stay on the the main street where large group of people are. Stay away from side streets. 4) The last time i rode the streetcar, it was $1.25 per person one way. Best thing to do is park around Carrollton ave. by where the streetcars starts and go down St Charles all the way to the French Quarter. Spend the day in the French Quarter and ride the streetcar back to where y'all parked. 5) Garden District has Audubon zoo and a lot of shops and restaurants. Magazine and Ferry St. has a lot of shopping and eateries for Kat and Lea. 6) Steamboat Natchez is a must and take the ferry across the Mississippi river and back. 7) if you're going to visit a plantation, look up Myrtle's plantation. It's an hour above Baton Rouge our state capitol in St. Francisville, LA. 8) Swamp tours outside of New Orleans are the best. Gas station food in Cajun country is better than most restaurants. Starts in Houms and goes west. 9) Ghost tours on horse and buggy are popular in New Orleans. If y'all want to see haunted stuff, go back to #7 and Myrtle's. A lot of voodoo shops in New Orleans. 10) A lot of jazz music in Jackson Square and on Bourbon St., the Audubon aquarium is pretty cool, but don't miss the National WWII museum. The D-Day museum is worth seeing. I freaking love Texas Barbecue, but Southern Louisiana has so freaking much see, eat, and offer. I lived in New Orleans over forty years of my life and I can't think of any other places to live. The other fifteen years of my life is just visiting and New Orleans is my home. I got a couple of tears rolling down my eyes watching this video.

I went to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in 2000 (pre-Katrina). One of the high points of my life's travels.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is coming up on February 27 and runs through March 17. There are 11 trailrides starting this weekend some go for 100s of miles and end up in Houston. I remember as a kid living outside of Houston in a very rural area. One of the trail rides would go down my road. It literally went ALL DAY LONG and into the night!!! There were that many participants in just that one trailride. Horses, wagons, trucks pulling trailers with loads of hay and kids.

I think June through August is the best time to visit New Orleans for smaller crowds and fewer tourists. Keep in mind it's also the hottest temperatures at that time.

New Orleans is a great destination. Only been there three times and every visit was awesome. Outstanding food, history, people, music. The Audubon Zoo and the Aquarium are worth a visit as is wandering around the Garden District. I had a friend who lived there and it was an easy ride on the streetcar to get to the French Quarter. Cafe du Monde for a beignet and the Central Grocery on Decatur Street for a muffuletta. Then a day trip to Oak Alley Plantation. So much to do. The cemetery tours are really interesting. Was there for Mardi Gras many years ago. It was packed full of people but the parades and the atmosphere was incredible. Pack your bags but be prepared for the heat and humidity.

Grand Isle is good for fishing, or really anywhere around that coastal area. Hopefully isntesd of going to a restaurant, one of your viewers invite you yo a crawfish boil. I would, but I don't have the equipment lol. I always go to other people's boils. Apart from Grand Isle, there are so many good fishng and hunting spots. Louisiana is nicknamed the sportsman's paradise, so your wife and daughter can go shopping at Canal Street. Maybe do some other stuff downtown or drive to the mall or Perkins Rowe in Baton Rouge while you and your son go to some of the fishing spots. Grand Isle is a further drive, but there's also Manchac Madisonville, and a few other places for fishing. Just a suggestion.

Don’t know if you noticed that restaurant in the Garden District they showed called Commander’s Palace but definitely eat there if you go. Also go to the WW II museum. I’m surprised they didn’t mention that.

Unless you happen to be Louis Armstrong it's pronounced New Oar Linz. I lived there for 3 years during my Pharmacy Residency in the 90s, and the locals had me pronouncing it correctly pretty quick. Also absolutely none of the street names are pronounced like you think they should be. Just try your best if you have to adk directions and they'll know what you're asking. Unless you actually live there, it is absolutly 100% impossible to know if you are in a safe area especially at night so you'll need to ask about that as well. DO NOT take the bus. DO take the streetcar!! The French Quarter cutoff time when it's appropriate to be under 18 is 7 PM. Seriously, the freaks come out at 7:01. Yes, you will smell pee and weed. Wear closed toed shoes and make sure not to step in the 'street gravy' on Bourbon Street. Bet I can guess where you got dem shoes is a street hustle. Just say something to them in another language or something. You don't want to engage them. But just so you know, the correct answer is 'They're on my feet in New Orleans. Oh also, NEVER play dominos with vampires at 4 in the morning!!

I was born and raised across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans. We used to go to New Orleans several times a year - to the zoo, aquarium, French Quarter, shopping, riding the riverboat, and mostly eating. We loved to go to Pontchartrain Beach - an old amusement park that has been closed for a very long time now. I live in Mississippi now and the only time we ever go to New Orleans is to use the airport. Haven’t been in the actual city in years. You can most definitely have a great time outside of the city, too. The swamp and plantation tours are absolute must dos. You can find amazing food just about anywhere in the south, but the “hot spot” is definitely Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. We are currently planning a day trip to the WWII museum and I think we have a list of about 20 foods we want to get while there 😆 It might turn into a full weekend just so we can fit in all the food. 😊

New Orleans's Madi Gras last about 2 weeks not just 1 day it's a lot different than it was before Hurricane Katrina hit on August 29th 2005 because a couple hundred thousand people left the city and have not returned after the hurricane so now it's just a shadow of what it once was in the past RIP to all the people who lost their lives in Hurricane Katrina 1390 souls

Many people that live there say NAWlins. That's probably more of a Cajun way of saying it. But most visitors say New Orlins. (not Orleeens).

It's actually Nawlins. One of America's great cities. When you get there try the beignets. A fried donut morsel covered in powdered sugar. It will make you realize why God gave you a sense of taste.

Mardi Gras is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday every year. So, it's date changes every year. Plan trips accordingly.

Great video but remember New Orleans was all but destroyed in 2005 when it was hit by hurricane Katrina. Many people thought it would never come back but it has.

You're not really ghost hunting - you're learning history. This is a SMALL city. Yeah, you would not want to come during Mardi Gras or Halloween. Nov-Dec the weather here is very mild, and the city isn't busy at all. That's the perfect time for you. It's a magical place (and yes, the seafood capital!).

Ok yes New Orleeens is wrong, best seafood restaurant is Deenies , try the large seafood platter. My grandmother grew up on Whitney plantation. Houmas house is one of the most beautiful And New Orleans is not as big , if you freak out over crowds I suggest before you visit cities to look up their populations .

New Orleans doesn’t come across as a big city. Certainly not like a Chicago or New York. I’ve been to Chicago and New York and would choose New Orleans over the other two all day long. Could be because I’m a Southern boy and Southern cities big or small are just more welcoming.

It's a beautiful city full of some of the wonderful history and truly awesome people. However...it's also can be quite dangerous, and that should always be mentioned.

It’s always disheartening as an African american watching all these people from different countries visibly care less about learning our history. Our history is literally the backbone of american history. As much as it makes people uncomfortable we’ve been here since day one and play a huge role in the culture of each state but especially the south. To ignore it, would be willful ignorance.

Voodoo is a religion so it is practiced there. But most who live there are Catholic. My mother and her family are from New Orleans.
